GFinDC replied to dmarie725's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
- Can burping indicate a gluten sensitivity? Yes, an upset, irritated digestive system can cause lots of symptoms, including burping, ie excess gas in the stomach. - Do symptoms only appear directly after eating gluten? No, symptoms do not only appear directly after eating gluten. The digestive system is irritated all the time, so symptoms can occur... -

ARCHIVED My Wife's Test Results And Questions
GFinDC replied to CaeZaR's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi CeZaR, She should keep eating gluten until the testing is completed. She might be able to get in sooner if they have a standby list for openings. Often people have worse symptoms from returning to eating gluten after being off it for awhile. So stopping gluten for a couple weeks and restarting it won't be fun. She doens't need to eat a lot fo gluten... -
ARCHIVED Does It Sound Like Celiac Or Could It Be A Gluten Intolerance?
GFinDC replied to cindyb1's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Cindy, The symptoms fo rceliac disease adn NCGI (noon-celaic gluten intolerance) are teh same. So the answer to your question is, yes, it sounds like both of them! Ask your doctor about celiac testing. But usually you have to be eating gluten for 6 weeks or so to get accurate results. There is no standard medical testing for NCGI yet. But... -
ARCHIVED Heavy Metals Testing - How To Do It Right?
GFinDC replied to Seeking2012's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Seeking, I wanted to offer a reason the heavy metal theory may not make sense for a cause of celiac disease. There are certain genes associated with celiac disease, and the people with those genes are the ones who tend to get develop celiac disease. Other people don't get it. Heavy metals wouldn't discriminate based on people's genes right? There... -
ARCHIVED Newbie Who Feels Lost
GFinDC replied to Flyers-Girl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Flyer'sgurl, Be sure to drink plenty of water if you take the metamucil. It works better with lots of water. I'm pretty sure metamucial is just psyilium husks with flavorings added. So you could just get plain psyilium husks instead. Another way to take it is to mix it into food you are eating. It makes a good thickener for soups and gravy etc...- 11 replies

ARCHIVED New W/ Unexplained Symptoms....burping...questions?
GFinDC replied to dmarie725's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Dmarie, When your digestive system is irritated and not working right things go kinda wrong. Gut bacteria can get out of balance and multiply and make lots of gas. If your gut flora is messed up, you can be gassy from eating just about anything. Some starting the gluten-free diet tips for the first 6 months: Get tested before starting the gluten... -
ARCHIVED So Here I Am :)
GFinDC replied to GenaA's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Gena, Welcome to the forum! The celiac antibodie tests are listed below. You should have all of them done at once. Be sure to keep eating gluten like regular until all ltesting is complete. Testing usually starts with a blood draw for antibodie tests and then is followed up with an endoscopy to take biopsy samples from the small intestine.... -
ARCHIVED Forum Section For Non-Celiac On The Gluten-Free Diet?
GFinDC replied to GFinDC's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
Hi Gilligan, Thanks for responding. The thing is, people who follow the gluten-free diet for reasons other than celiac disease may not have the same motivation to be strictly 100% gluten-free. They aren't nessecarily going to have an autimmoune reaction to slight amounts of gluten or cross-contamination like a celiac would. So the advice they would... -
ARCHIVED Forum Section For Non-Celiac On The Gluten-Free Diet?
GFinDC posted a topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
I was thinking it might be good to have a section of the forum for non-celiacs who are following the gluten-free diet. There lots of people interested in eating gluten-free these days for various reasons. Celiac disease is one very important reason to eat gluten-free. But other people might want to eat gluten-free because they have health issues that... -
ARCHIVED Possible Celiac?
GFinDC replied to Fenrir's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Fenrir, The link below will take you to a series of articles about the liver and celiac disease. Some light reading for your weekend entertainment. My understanding is that liver enzymes are often elevated in untreated celiac disease due to cell death releasing toxins into the blood stream. I am thinking they call that cell apoptosis or some such... -
ARCHIVED Possible Celiac?
GFinDC replied to Fenrir's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Fenrir, Yes, liver enzymes can be elevated in celiac. They should return to normal after being gluten-free for a while, maybe 6 months or so. Mildly positive results don't equate to a mild case of celiac. The antibody reaction is mostly in the gut, so anti-bodies in the bloodstream are lower. They concentrate in the gut where they do the damage... -
Maybe some of the search results for high b-12 levels will be helpful. Some suggest it could indicate liver issues, some suggest other things. I wonder if it's possible that the body just can't utilize the B-12 properly in some people? It seems like I read something about that once but I don't remember where. Open Original Shared Link

Hi Eclara, You may have screwed up, but that puts you right in the midst of a goodly number of us who screwed up before you! Treating our condition seems to involve quite a bit of trial and error at times. My understanding is the rifaximin is an antibiotic. That you improved when you started it seems to mean you did have a problem with your gut flora...

ARCHIVED Need A Dr. Referral In Long Beach, Ca Area?
GFinDC replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Doctors
Hi FE, A couple other things that can cause slow digestion are diabetes and thyroid problems. It would be good to have some testing to eliminate those as a possible cause. -
ARCHIVED Why Do I Have Sharp Stabbing/gnawing Abdominal Pain?
GFinDC replied to greed2109's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You can try some natural treatments for h. pylori. If they help, then it is probably and h. pylori infection causing the pain.. Some that may help are mastic gum, and DGL. I suggest taking both at once. If they don't help after a week, then it may be something else causing the pain. H pylori is a problem sometimes when people are taking antacids too... -
ARCHIVED Am I Doing The Right Thing?
GFinDC replied to ColtonBarnes's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome Colton! Two weeks is just the rough beginning of the gluten-free diet. For some people withdrawal symptoms can go on for a couple weeks. For many it seems like 6 months to get basically healed is about right, but it can take years for some. It helps during healing to eat a simple diet, without lots of hot spicy stuff. The less irritation... -
I hope your foot heals sooner rather than later Julie. From what I understand, healing is slow for people if their blood sugar is out of whack/high. So, hopefully you will get it back to a normal range and keep it there for a while. I am kind of surprised you are drinking soda. Sugarfee soda is better than regular soda for diabetics, but it's not a great...

ARCHIVED Work Cafeteria Asking For Suggestions - Please Help With Ideas
GFinDC replied to Nikki2777's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You can ask them to provide fresh fruit and salads without croutons. You may be able to get cooked vegetables from them as long as they understand the cc risk of sharing spoons ladles etc. Another thing is they could cook you meats in a separate clean skillet instead of the grill. Or serve frozen meats that they just warm up in the nuker. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Salvage Shopping
GFinDC replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I saw a whole display of Bob' Red Mill items at an Odd Lots store recently. Prices were somewhat lower but not super low. But it did surprise me to see it there. -
ARCHIVED Say You Have Celiac Without Dx
GFinDC replied to patz16's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, Ref #3: It's not being picky to want to maintain your health. Everyone (who isn't suicidal) wants to maintain their health. That's why there are so many vitamin supplements and doctor programs on TV etc. And other kinds of diets also. So all those people you are concerned may not understand are prolly just as concerned about their own health... -

GFinDC replied to 124chicksinger's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, yes, u r berry, berry welcome here! Lots of people come to the forum to try and figure out if they have a gluten related issue, and their tests don't show it yet or maybe never. Since there is no accepted testing for NCGI, it leaves it up to us to figure out if we have it or not. Docs ain't much help at the moment. Even celiac testing has flaws... -
