  1. Another reason to do the endoscopy would be if you wanted to participate in medical studies. Medical studies usually accept only biopsy confirmed celiacs. Most people aren't interested in that but some are. It's best to get the celiac testing done before starting the gluten-free diet. Doing a gluten challenge after going gluten-free is difficult and...
  2. Hi, If the potatoes affect you then it could be a nightshade reaction. Nightshades are potatoes, tomatoes, peppers and eggplant. Some people can eat dairy after a while, but others develop a permanent reaction to it. There's no way to know which group you fall into without trailing it again in 6 months or so. Some people are lactose intolerant, others...
  3. Hi, A bloated stomach is certainly a symptom of celiac disease. Getting glutened can make some people very tired. Are you sure you didn't eat something with gluten in it?
  4. Hi Beth, I hope you feel better soon! I'd ditch the Chex cereal for now. I've had symptoms form eating Chex cereals in the past and don't eat them anymore. Do you like sweet taters? They are pretty good and easy if you microwave them for 10 minutes. Then split them open and dig out their innards with a spoon. Add some peanut butter and whatnot...
  5. It shouldn't hurt the test results to take probiotics now.
  6. i don't take anything like that myself. It seems to me the ingredients list in the Metagenics ultrainflmex is similar to a good multi-vitamin/mineral. Plus some extras thrown in. The extras don't seem like they are worth the cost of the products tho. Another option would be to buy them separately and take them in the amounts you choose, rather than what...
  7. Here's some info on another possibility. Open Original Shared Link
  8. Hi Simon, Welcome to the forum! You'll probably see people refer to their spaceyiness type symptoms as brain fog here. That's generally what people call it. And look, now you have two repsonses!
  9. I take a creatine capsule most every day, it helps my energy. It is also sposed to help control blood sugar. I take a Naturemade plus 50 for Him multi-vitamin and minerals daily. Usually daily. I figure it might be helpful, especially the minerals. I take a NatureMade 5000 IU vitamin D capusle often altho not so much now that it's summer here....
  10. One other possibility. The gall bladder releases bile which neutralizes the acidic stuff (hydracloric acid) coming out of the stomach. So it seems it could be possible that if the gall bladder is not releasing enough bile to neutralize the chyme it could cause a burning sensation. In the case of spectacularly fast transit times there may not be enough...
  11. Well, 1 year is more than enough time to know if the nightshades are a problem. It took me about a month and a half to get over them. Sweet taters are not in the nightshade family so they ought not ter be eliminated on that basis anyway. Salsa would have nightshades in it usually. I think you are eating salmon and chicken? So you can get plenty of protein...
  12. Hi SW, Have you tried eliminating nightshades from your diet? They are potatoes, peppers, tomatoes and eggplant. They cause joint pain for some people. Soy can also, in some cases.
  13. Hah! Yes it is terrible! I used to have several Uncle John's Bathroom Reader books for the long spells of intense contemplation. When you are getting rid of useless drivel at a prodigious rate it's good to replace it right away! The dairy-free helping is a sign of something. Lactose intolerance is somewhat common in new celiacs because the enzymes that...
  14. HI Icelandgirl, Yes, my symptoms start out bad and decrease over time. Why the length of time? Well, the immune system wants to keep us safe from invading germs. So it keeps making antibodies for a while after they are needed. And the antibodies don't die off instantly also. So the effects can last a while after a glutening. I was talking about...
  15. Ha Ha! Well, if the lactose is positive you can eliminate that one anyway. Dairy can cause a lot of bloating and gas. Inflating an inflamed, irritated gut can be a bit painful. So eliminating dairy may help with the pain. After the test of course. They do make lactaid pills but I suggest you don't use those. At least not for the first 6 months of...
  16. Hi AC18, The last time I got glutened good it took about 6 weeks for the symptoms to fade, So you are getting close to that time since you were glutened. Just a thot.
  17. Ahh, well, if it helped for one week, might it not help for a month? Isn't that an irritating question? The problem with nightshades is they contain alkaloids that some people can't process well. Think green potato eyes that they say not to eat cause you'll die. That's not a joke, they really are bad for you due to the high levels of alkaloids. But...
  18. Hi DLL, You could try some food eliminations to see if they affect your joint pain. Nightshades are one food group that would be good to remove, (peppers, tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant). Soy is another problem food for many. It doesn't cost any money to eliminate the foods, and no doctor visit, so it is an easy thing to test yourself on.
  19. Hi Elless, I don't think the doctors usually test for Hashimoto's when they test for other thyroid issues. It would be something you'd have to prod them to do, since it is kind of a rare condition. You are right, AI diseases do tend to run in families. If you search on celiac disease and related condition or associated condition there are lists of...
  20. Hi Elless, Was your hypotyroidism due to Hashimoto's Thyroiditis? Hashimoto's is also an autio-immune disease and sometimes occurs with celiac disease. They test for Hashi's by checking TPO antibodies.
  21. I've seen advertisements for Lyrica as a treatment for diabetic nerve pain. I don't know anything about it beyond that though. It might be worth checking into. Large boxes of wine might be cheaper? Open Original Shared Link
  22. You can also try clicking the "view new content" button on the top right of the main forum screen. That lets you see a list of all the threads with recent posts. Then you can scroll through that list and see who made the last post or who started the thread.
  23. Right, what cyclinglady said. You can have celiac as a young child or mid-life or even have it start in your 80's. There are a couple of genes associated with celiac disease but they only give you the possibility of developing it. About 30% of the population has a genetic marker but only 1% develop celiac disease. Why that 1% get it and the rest don...
  24. No snow here, 70's and 80's lately. Here's a sign of spring for sure. Boids at the feeder web cam. Don't forget to enable the sound on the lower left side of video screen. Open Original Shared Link And this one has some boids on chart you can click to identify their songs. Takes bit to load tho. Open Original Shared Link
  25. Hi Questore, Welcome to the forum! It's ok to go gluten-free before testing, but it may make testing later difficult. If you did decide to get tested for celiac disease later, you'd have to resume eating gluten and eat it for up to 3 months. That can be very unpleasant if gluten is a problem for you. But if you aren't interested in testing, then...
