  1. I had mine done through Prometheus, and it took about a week. Depends on who is doing your blood work and where it has to go.
  2. I find Splenda to be nasty, too. But I think that pretty much all artificial sweeteners taste fake and I don't like any of them... just me. I'd much rather have regular sugar over the fake stuff. I also find I don't eat as much, since regular sugar doesn't have the sweetness that the artificial sweeteners do. To whoever was looking for BBQ sauce....
  3. I don't get out to Chapel Hill often, but this might get you started. I've also eaten at a place called Carrburrito's, which is local. They don't have a gluten-free menu, but can tell you about any of their ingredients as everything is made there. Also, check out the Weaver Street market if you get a few minutes. It's a co-op, and it's just fun to walk...
  4. Can you order them online?
  5. I was glutened by The Fresh Market's brand. It was a chocolate something flavored coffee, was not packaged, and my thought is that the flavoring contained barley malt rather than wheat. I contacted the company and they wouldn't give me any info.... but my reactions are so specific to gluten that I know that's what it was. It was also the only different thing...
  6. As to what Ken said, I've been glutened by flavored coffee... I stick to whole beans, non flavored, whatever blend I'm in the mood for and have otherwise had no problems.
  7. YEAH THEY DO!!!! I'm going to have to try those. I haven't had a pierogie in years!!! It's about time to try. Thanks for posting!
  8. Have you looked into further possibilities? I know you looked candida, and while I can't offer much by way of any sort of testing to pursue, I would urge you not to give up in looking. Part of the celiac diagnosis involves issues resolving on the gluten-free diet. It sounds like your health is still declining, so perhaps you are dealing with something in...
  9. gluten soy some dairy products...still working on the what and why allergic to egg whites
  10. If it's pure onion powder and/or garlic powder, you are fine. Onion/garlic powder as an ingredient wouldn't keep me from buying something.
  11. I LOVE pancakes with peanut butter!! Forget the syrup... I'm into cereal with fruit on top these days, or I'll make biscuits and eat off of those for a few days with some precooked sausage patties. Just heat them up and put on the bread. Very portable and 1 or 2 of them will keep me full for a couple of hours. Breakfast is hard for me too... thanks...
  12. So, you don't think he's a good doctor (from your other posts), but you are willing to listen to him tell you that you are not celiac based on a test that is widely known to be inaccurate? Did he offer you anything?
  13. My doc pretty much did the same thing that your doc wants to do. I was 6 months gluten-free before I saw him, and I had made such progress in that 6 months that I was not willing to go back to eating gluten. We settled on the genetic panel, so he could see what my risk was and go from there. He treats me as a celiac, refers to me as a celiac... in his...
  14. I had extreme fatigue too, it was awful. It drove me crazy because I had a list of things I always wanted to do, I was mentally motivated, but I just physically couldn't do nearly what I wanted. As ravenwoodglass said, you can either stay on gluten and be tested, or switch your diet and see if it helps. Since you haven't changed your diet at all, why...
  15. tom, That was why I initially switched to goat products. I'm a little confused though because of being able to eat butter, ice cream, etc. (I'm willing to go with the idea that I'm ignoring anything caused by butter or ice cream, but they seriously don't seem to bother me ) But some cheeses just seem to do me in. Any thoughts on that?
  16. Hi and Welcome! Those were some of my smptoms, too. I also had daily headaches, which is probably the only thing missing from your list. Pretty much every one of them has gone away in the 1 1/2 yrs that I've been gluten-free. Given your situation, living at home and not being in full control of your foods, I would strongly suggest that you get...
  17. Do a quick search of this site, or any health related site, and you will find that the percentage of diagnosed celiacs to the number believed to have it is between 1 and 3%,give or take depending on who wrote the article. Here is a link from Celiac Sprue Association, just to get you started. Open Original Shared Link I don't have a 'family history...
  18. I realize this is a bit late, but perhaps for future use. When I contact a restaurant I explain to them that I must avoid gluten, which is in wheat, barley, rye and oats. I either ask them about specific ingredients, if I have something in mind, or ask them if they have any food that would be safe for me to eat. If it is a place that actually makes most...
  19. I would recommend calling the restuarant. While one would think that there would be nothing wrong with a char-grilled tenderloin, without seeing the ingredients no one can really give you an answer. Hopefully the restaurant prepares all or most of their food there, and will be able to give you some suggestions.
  20. Yep, I would definitely contact the camp to see what you will be able to eat, how they can accomodate you, etc. I'm sure you're not the first with food restrictions, chances are they will have plenty of suggestions to make your week easier.
  21. I've eaten from their bar a couple of times, and I've never had issues there, either. I would say that as far as prepared foods goes, they are probably among the more conscientious.
  22. I can only reiterate what another poster said, celiac blood tests rarely, if ever, give a false positive. The blood tests are notoriously inconclusive, and if anything, would give you a false negative. A biopsy is still considered the gold standard of diagnosis, but even that can be a false negative, based on a number of different factors; for example, patchy...
  23. Corn chex has also been reformulated to be gluten-free. Make sure you look for gluten-free on the packaging, as there may be some old boxes still floating around. Open Original Shared Link
  24. I had it two mornings in a row at my gramma's house, and it didn't bother me at all. I've never bought a whole box, but many, many cereals do not agree with me. It tastes a little reminiscent of cardboard though... you might want to add some berries or something to it. I haven't tried any of the flavored ones, as I've heard they contain soy, and soy does...
