  1. I use agave all the time, no ill effects.
  2. It sucks, that's for sure! I'm allergic to eggs, too, can't do soy or dairy. The soy I really don't care about, except that it's in EVERYTHING. Dairy and eggs is a bummer. I've always been allergic to egg whites, but before celiac, I could eat anything else. There are times I get really frustrated because things that every one else takes for granted, I...
  3. I'm assuming you went gluten-free recently? You're body is taking on the immense challenge of repairing itself after damage caused by gluten, and attempting to build up stores that perhaps were depleted. I worked out and ran before I was went gluten-free, I actually started running because I thought it would give me more energy. It did just the opposite...
  4. YES!!!! Please come out of the shadows and join us!!!! (I was a lurker once, too )
  5. I had terrible headaches, too, that went away almost immediately after I went gluten-free. That's actually how I discovered I had celiac, by accident. I was doing an elimination diet to see if my asthma would improve and instead my headaches went away. I realized it was wheat after a week, and haven't looked back since. I'm the only one officially diagnosed...
  6. I was diagnosed by my genetic risk factor (I carry 2 copies of the gene associated with celiac), and my almost complete resolution of symptoms going gluten-free. I'm also IgA deficient, which is why I asked about your blood test results, because the tests that most doctors run are IgA based and do not always include the IgG counterpart. Incidentally, the...
  7. LOVE that!!! That's for sharing
  8. It could be allergy induced asthma, my husband had this a couple seasons ago during a particularly hard allergy season. Mention it to your doctor, especially if you feel like you're not getting enough oxygen. I have asthma and keep an inhaler. They are perfectly safe to use during pregnancy. I'm 19 weeks in my second pregnancy. I craved gluten in...
  9. Sure you can still hang out here!! Did you actually get your test results? I had negative blood work, too, but I cannot tolerate gluten in any amount. My doctor diagnosed me celiac based on a few different things. And did you go gluten-free before your blood testing? The testing for celiac is not perfect, so, testing can rule it in, not rule...
  10. Hi and welcome If you want to be tested for celiac, you must be eating gluten for the test to have a chance to be accurate. Sometimes, even with that, they're still inaccurate. So, the amount of time you have been gluten-free may have a determining factor in if you choose to be tested or not. If it hasn't been a long amount of time, like a maybe...
  11. I'm sorry, but I'm confused as to why you can't get the test done. My labs were sent to California or somewhere on the west coast to Promethues labs for testing. I'm not sure if a lab around here does them, but my doc just uses Prometheus as his standard for celiac testing. You could look into Enterolab for genetic testing. I'm glad you're feeling...
  12. I had someone (very well intentioned) tell me that I was just bored. Right... I have a 4 year old and run a small business, how do I have time to be bored? I don't have time to do half of what I want to. People just don't get it.
  13. Hi and welcome to the forum! As the previous poster said, you can always try the diet if your bloodwork comes back inconclusive. Try for the endoscopy either way, because often, that will reveal celiac damage when bloodwork comes back negative. I hope you get some answers soon so you can start feeling better!
  14. YAY!!! For you! I have other stuff I can't tolerate, too, in addition to gluten, and sometimes it's a pain, but feeling better is so much more worth it. Cheese is super hard for me to resist still, but I get headaches too from it, so it makes me second guess whether I really want to eat it or not. So glad you are feeling better and have figured...
  15. I'm in Raleigh and have bought Pamela's from Kroger (their natural food section), it is also available at Whole Foods.
  16. I react to dairy, too, but I believe it's the casein and not the lactose. I don't get GI discomfort associated with dairy products, but dairy products primarily give me headaches. I tried eating it again recently, and I thought it wasn't bothering me, but my headaches started back fiercely, compounded by the change of season. One day I was outside the whole...
  17. I like this idea better than my own. At any rate, please do at least get the blood work done. It makes things a lot easier down the road... I went gluten-free before I had blood work done and went through a lot of frustration and a few doctors telling me that I couldn't possibly have celiac.
  18. It's best to avoid dairy in the beginning because lactase is produced on the tips of the villi. When the villi are destroyed, the lactase is no longer produced, making one become lactose intolerant. In many, this is only temporary, and once you heal you can reintroduce dairy into your diet. But hold off until about 6 months before you try to reintroduce it...
  19. Congratulations! You made it through the toughest part
  20. Hi and welcome to the forum! If it were me, (knowing what I know now) I would wait it out until your appt in June and have the blood work done again. Your high IgG is not as specific as some of the other tests for celiac, but it does indicate that something is going on. It also sounds like you developed symptoms pretty quickly after the traumatic events...
  21. I can't do soybean oil either, it doesn't seem to affect me as much, but it still makes me feel kind of yuck... I've had to give up Chipotle because of it. I seem to tolerate the lecithin pretty well, too. Seems like I remember even reading something about why people can tolerate soy lecithin when they cannot tolerate soy products, but I can't remember...
  22. I've come across barley malt in some lindt truffles before. The bag was an assortment, and it didn't look like all the flavors contained the barley malt, but it's something to look out for. I didn't eat any of them, just because I wasn't sure.
  23. Thanks for posting. That was really very interesting. I'm thinking about forwarding that info on to some folks I know.
  24. Sounds like you have already made some progress. Stick with it, you will get control. The first couple of months are hard, there's no way around it. Gluten is everywhere, in things you would NEVER suspect, and you never think about it until you have to. It's a completely new way of looking at things. You don't really need all that baked stuff anyway....
  25. I bought this mix today for the first time ever. I haven't tried it yet, but I had no problems with the actual rising/baking of the bread. Although, the dough almost ate my mixer and spatula. LOL So, it finally cooled enough to eat it, I thought it was great. Best gluten-free bread I've had yet... not that I eat a lot of bread, but it was soft...
