HI and Welcome! Looks like you figured out how to post pretty well! It's getting late here on the east coast, where I am, but: Kinnickinnick makes donuts. I've not tried them, (I've never really been a donut person) but everyone on this site raves about them. You can find these at Whole Foods. Tinkyada makes the best gluten-free pasta that...

ARCHIVED 12 Month Old With Symptoms Long
lizard00 replied to EmmysMommy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi and Welcome! I am so sorry to hear about your little one. Children can be diagnosed at a very young age. In fact, up until recently, and in some doctor's minds still, celiac is a pediatric disease. It could be helpful to pursue testing for her, as she does appear to have many of the classic symptoms. However, be aware that testing in children... -
ARCHIVED How Do You Know If You Are Iga Deficient?
lizard00 replied to nw0528's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The doc who ordered your blood work didn't order the most important tests. Make sure to take this with you to your GI appt so that the GI knows you really haven't had a complete blood workup. Hopefully, they will order the complete panel (what tallforagirl posted). I'm not sure where you are, but if they use a lab like Prometheus (I say them because that... -
ARCHIVED "Super Sensitive" Celiacs.....
lizard00 replied to jerseyangel's topic in Super Sensitive People
You know, I don't usually crave gluten either. But, I've recently found out I'm pregnant, and this one has been much harder than the first, as far as nausea and such. I'm hungry, but I find that recently I've been craving pizza and chick fil a sandwiches (which I stopped eating LOOOOONNG before I went gluten-free), and the thought of veggies that I normally... -
A gastroenterologist, or gastro-intestinal doctor. (Hence the GI)
-
A GI would be the best person to follow your care, as there are screenings that should be performed on a celiac that are either done later, or not routinely on a non-celiac. They should also be more knowledgable than a GP, and if you encounter further problems, you already are established with them and in a better position to find help. In your situation...

ARCHIVED Puffins
lizard00 replied to Lexi's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I reacted to Puffins, too. But, I tend to be pretty sensitive, too. -
Those were my sentiments, exactly. I didn't think it was great, but the fact that they're putting forth the effort is great. Hopefully, they'll continue to improve on it.

ARCHIVED False Negatives For Bloodwork?
lizard00 replied to nw0528's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hey David That article is over 10 yrs old, and a lot of info has been discovered regarding genetics and celiac. Even with the genetic testing, there can be a false negative,(can't say that I've heard of a lot of false positives) depending on what lab you use. If your wife and child came back positive for the markers, it's more than likely to be correct... -
ARCHIVED Is There A Celiac.com Members Cookbook? Why Not?

ARCHIVED Will I Definitley Gain Weight?
lizard00 replied to Nicole H.'s topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi and Welcome It sounds like you eat really well to begin with, so you probably won't gain weight. I lost about 10 lbs in the beginning, mainly because of my diet change, but have gained about 5 of it back.(But 10 was too much to lose, so I'm very ok with that) It doesn't sound like you overindulged in gluteny goodies before celiac, so you probably... -
ARCHIVED "Super Sensitive" Celiacs.....
lizard00 replied to jerseyangel's topic in Super Sensitive People
Just on a side note, Z Pizza (if anyone has one near by) uses crusts made by Domata, and they are so STINKIN good. Our location has also completed the GREAT program, which is a certification program to ensure CC doesn't happen. For those of you that have purchased their flour, do you prefer it over other blends? I've been curious about it for awhile. -
ARCHIVED What If You Just Can't Eat Anything?
lizard00 replied to IChaseFrisbees's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think that you do need to investigate something other than or in conjunction with celiac. You shouldn't be steadily removing foods with no improvement. And since you say you are getting worse, that's definitely a sign that something else could be going on. Why do you discount Whipple's disease? Because there's been fewer than 1000 cases? Does that automatically... -
ARCHIVED "Super Sensitive" Celiacs.....
lizard00 replied to jerseyangel's topic in Super Sensitive People
I tried this with my son a few weeks back when he had a cold... I think it made his cough worse. In any case, it didn't help him. -
ARCHIVED "Super Sensitive" Celiacs.....
lizard00 replied to jerseyangel's topic in Super Sensitive People
The GLUTEN BOOGEY MAN!!!! I LOVE IT!! That's how we live in this world, we use twisted humor. LOL Seriously, it can be totally frustrating. I can't imagine if I had to deal with it with my child, especially if I didn't have celiac. So, you get a big pat on the back from me! My system is really sensitive, and I can eat grains in small amounts... -
ARCHIVED Got The Test Results Back
lizard00 replied to Mysw11's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Did they do a total IgA serum with the celiac panel? If your IgA is low, the two IgA tests are worthless. I have low IgA, and my doc did order a total serum, but didn't order any IgG tests. By the time I went to a GI who knew this was a problem, it was too late. Given your family history, it would be worth investigating. Have you tried a gluten-free diet... -
ARCHIVED Vitamin D Leve - 4.5 -!
lizard00 replied to carolinamom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My vitamin D was low, too; like most others, though, not as low as yours. I started taking 2500iu a day, and I saw a remarkable difference in 1 week. No other side effects. So, take the mega dose and just concentrate on getting your level back up to a healthy range. Sometimes I think doctors have a hard time believing that we might actually know what's... -

Thanks for the info! I may have a hospital stay in my future... -
You can also go to celiac.org and request some information from them. They will send you some startup materials and list you as a contact person for your area. I looked into this before I found our local group.

ARCHIVED Incontinence
lizard00 replied to nw0528's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Open Original Shared Link I found that article last year sometime while searching for something else celiac related. Anyway, it popped back in my head. I remember it being longer though, and that the woman had no issues after 6 months or something along those lines. But, maybe it's a different one. Anyway, maybe your doctor hasn't had any patients... -

ARCHIVED Separate Meals Vs Converting The Family (including Toddler)
lizard00 replied to nw0528's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm the only one in my house, too. As a general rule, I don't cook anything I can't eat. My son and my husband eat cheerios for breakfast, or they'll eat regular toast. We have very little gluten in our house. I do not have wheat flour, so anything I bake is gluten free. My husband has been really good about it, and we eat really well without gluten. I feed... -

ARCHIVED I Think I've Got Celiac But Test Results Say Otherwise.
lizard00 replied to MarkO's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm clinically diagnosed. I got new life insurance in Sept, and I got the standard rate. Some people here have had issues, others haven't. But my insurance carrier didn't recognize it as official, which worked to my advantage. My doctor believes I have it, and he treats me accordingly. That's really what matters anyway. As for your testing, I can only...
