ARCHIVED Eliminate What?
lizard00 replied to digmom1014's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My first thought would be dairy and/or soy. These seem to be the most problematic. -
ARCHIVED Red Robin Has A Gluten-free Menu!
lizard00 replied to heatherjane's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I had the same thought. But they could use another seasoning for their hamburgers. If they tell me not to eat it, I'm not eating it. Red Robin has not made me sick yet, and I have no plans for deviating from their gluten-free menu. Of course, I haven't explored the soy/corn issue yet, so my occasional RR venture may be out too. -
ARCHIVED Celiac Gene Test
lizard00 replied to dandt45's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Did your doctor run any celiac tests along with the gene panel? As the previous post says, having the gene puts you at risk, but doesn't necessarily mean that you have it. Although, it does sound like you have some celiac symptoms. I was diagnosed based on genetics and dietary response. What was your doctor's recommendation? -
ARCHIVED Restarants Just For Celiacs?
lizard00 replied to crayola's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
It's pretty good!! Haven't tried the baked stuff though. -
ARCHIVED Is This Gluten Sensitivity
lizard00 replied to dream77's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had my son tested and he exhibited no symptoms. It is possible that one can have celiac and be asymptomatic. We have a great pedi, and thankfully he ordered the tests, no questions. He completely understood. It's completely up to you, but if you feel like getting her tested, go with your gut. It's better to be wrong than to constantly wonder. My... -

ARCHIVED "Super Sensitive" Celiacs.....
lizard00 replied to jerseyangel's topic in Super Sensitive People
I think the general consensus is that we're a little too cowardly to try. I've had them once since going gluten-free, but I can't say that I remember if they made me react or not. It was a long while ago, and I was going through feeling pretty sick most of the time. So, I probably felt sick when I ate them and wouldn't have noticed a difference. Now... -
ARCHIVED He's Using The Regular Toaster For Her Bread! (vent -- Long!)
lizard00 replied to Sailing Girl's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
As the other poster said, keep a journal, and remind him that LEGALLY, he is bound to keep her gluten free, whether he agrees with it or not. As a parent, he is not giving his daughter's health due dilligence because he's making unwise and harmful decisions. (I'm a little worked up over this one, too!) If he doesn't want to comply, threaten to take him back... -
ARCHIVED "Super Sensitive" Celiacs.....
lizard00 replied to jerseyangel's topic in Super Sensitive People
Ok, it took me two days to decide to ask this question: Do any of you successfully eat McDo's fries???? or Have any of you successfully eaten them? My family was eating them the other night and I really wanted one. I didn't though, because I thought better of it. I really don't want this to become the "is it safe, is it not" debate... I just want to... -
I think dairy free can be harder than gluten-free, too. You really do have to look for it in places you wouldn't ordinarily think. I can't do soy either. In fact, if I had to chose, soy products make me sicker than their dairy counterparts. I use rice milk for baking and stuff, ghee for butter, and goat cheese for cheese. Although your daughter may...

ARCHIVED Total Iga Test Is High
lizard00 replied to Megan6516's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Was he fighting anything off at the time, like a cold? My son's came back slightly elevated when we had his done, and was fighting a cold at the time. It made sense that his IgA was a little high. Just a thought... -
ARCHIVED Could It Be Something Else? On Top Of Celiac?
lizard00 replied to miss vivian's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It takes me at least a week to get over being glutened. It's very frustrating how long the effects take to wear off in some of us. Hang in there, hopefully it will pass soon. Here's some information regarding the testing. Your IgA number is a total number, which just shows that you create a normal amount of IgA antibodies. IgA is a part of our immune... -
ARCHIVED "Super Sensitive" Celiacs.....
lizard00 replied to jerseyangel's topic in Super Sensitive People
I'm so sorry to hear that you're still struggling. Have you cut out dairy, too? I find that I can do very, very little grains. That might be worth a try for you. Have you had your vit/min levels checked? I started taking vitamin D a few days ago and I'm starting to feel like I have more energy. But strictly speaking from food, I cannot eat dairy or soy... -
ARCHIVED "Super Sensitive" Celiacs.....
lizard00 replied to jerseyangel's topic in Super Sensitive People
Patti, you have been at this a few years longer than I, but I can relate to that. I went through a really bad phase where I found myself really, really, dare I say depressed, that I still wasn't where I thought I should be. But then I had to remind myself that even though I didn't realize it at the time, I was really sick, and now I'm not. I think most... -
ARCHIVED "Super Sensitive" Celiacs.....
lizard00 replied to jerseyangel's topic in Super Sensitive People
Right now I'm using only almond flour (NOT BRM, I get it online from a place called Honeyville). Of course I have every other flour you can imagine in my cabinet. I still use potato starch or potato flour if I'm cooking something that has a sauce, or for the occasional breading that I do. As for bread, I rarely have it, but I've made this one once. I... -
ARCHIVED "Super Sensitive" Celiacs.....
lizard00 replied to jerseyangel's topic in Super Sensitive People
Welcome!!! As far as I know, and hopefully someone will tell me if I'm wrong, most intolerances can't be tested for. My GI told me he would test for lactose intolerance if I really wanted to know, but it sounded painful, and knowing I can't have dairy is enough for me. (Besides which, I don't think I'm lactose intolerant, so I figured it would've been... -
Yes, it is! It really made it very simple to understand what exactly happens, and why even trace amounts of gluten must be avoided. It's very scientific, but easy to understand. I find myself referencing it a lot.

Eggs, soy, or dairy??? I've searched and haven't found any without mayo, but I would really LOVE to have some ranch type/flavored dressing. Thanks everyone!!

Whole Foods is the only place I have seen it where I am. About $1.89 per container. They're my treat The list Fiddle Faddle posted is helpful, but it shows who's carries their products, it's not product specific. I have found the soy yogurts and such almost anywhere, but the coconut milk products I have only located at Whole Foods. There is also a...

Hi and Welcome! Breakfast is definitely the hardest meal of my day, so I know what you mean. I don't do any of the waffles or anything like that as they always seem to make me feel ill. In a pinch, I eat a LaraBar. Or some fruit, like an apple with peanut butter. Recently I made a pizza crust out of almond flour and made a breakfast fruit pizza...

ARCHIVED Soy Sauce
lizard00 replied to Jonine73's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I unknowingly had something with soy sauce in it (found out later) and had my normal gluten reaction. Was sick for a week... I stick with San-J. -
ARCHIVED "Super Sensitive" Celiacs.....
lizard00 replied to jerseyangel's topic in Super Sensitive People
Well, it certainly made me wonder if I reacted to the oats themselves, or if they were contaminated, as I suspected at first. At any rate, I used them all and doubt I will buy more. -
ARCHIVED Celiac's Vs Gluten Intolerance Diff?
lizard00 replied to Eric-C's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It has always been my understanding, (confirmed by my GI) that celiacs are intolerant to gluten, it's the sensitivity that varies. The body of a celiac doesn't tolerate gluten. However, a person that is intolerant to gluten is not necessarily a celiac. -
ARCHIVED Can't Find My Post In Silly Yak
lizard00 replied to harp1's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
If it doesn't show up when you click on 'view new posts', then you could either check the forum you posted it in, in this case the gab/chat forum, or you could search for it in the search bar on upper left corner of your screen. (It's under the main title "Celiac.com") Type in the name of the post or whatever key words you remember, and it will do a... -
