ARCHIVED Does Anyone With Celiac Disease Hear Their Pulse?
mushroom replied to jackay's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have it too, but it usually only bothers me at night. My head is too "busy" during the day, and I have tinnitus in one ear also. But I have had it for so long now it doesn't really get to me. When I have pressure from gas I can "hear" my whole body throbbing and pulsing I do take hypertensive medications which control my blood pressure; I remember... -
Back in the "old" days when we were first married we had a tick-tock alarm clock with the little bell on top. During the week when the alarm was set everything was fine, but on the weekends our Siamese could not figure out why the bell did not ring and wake us up. On Saturdays and Sundays she took to knocking the clock off the dresser onto the floor and...

I eat the Lindt 73% also because it has no soy lecithin. -
ARCHIVED Having Chocolate Cravings Bad
mushroom replied to txplowgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So why not eat some chocolate each day??? I do That is one craving that does not go away for me either. Even if it is only a chocolate biscotti... I don't see any harm -
ARCHIVED Potato Flour Vs Arrowroot Flour/starch
mushroom replied to Roda's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
The reason I am considering arrowroot is that most of the recipes call for tapioca starch and corn starch in addition to potato starch, so presumably the potato adds something that the others lack, so adding more of one to sub for the potato doesn't seem like it''s the right thing to do??? -
ARCHIVED Newbie To Forum
mushroom replied to CecilyF's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Good luck on your diagnosis. But even if it is so-called "negative", do give the diet a good try because it works for so many of us who are not "diagnosable." And yes, if that is the problem, you will get your life back, although it may take a little while to heal and you may encounter some bumps along the way. -
ARCHIVED Potato Flour Vs Arrowroot Flour/starch
mushroom replied to Roda's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
What about adding some applesauce when you do, then? What do you think? This is a serious problem for we potato starch intolerants because practically every recipe seems to contain potato starch. -
ARCHIVED Newbie To Forum
mushroom replied to CecilyF's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the forum, Cecily. Yes, it can. Many of our members report an increased resistance to catching viruses once they stop eating gluten. I know I experience it myself, having previously caught practically anything that was going around. -
ARCHIVED The Funny Pages - Tickle Me Elbow - The Original
mushroom replied to TriticusToxicum's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Thanks for well wishes, peeps. Pseriously, I think the only thing that has kept me sanity all these years is *not* having any screaming 12-year-olds, so thanks, but no thanks But I got your beams of light--the sun is shining, da sky is azure, da harbour is blue... in a south Paciic sub-sub-tropical paradise -
ARCHIVED Gas After Eating
mushroom replied to Barretts mom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sorry, Beano is not gluten free, but Gas-Ex is. I consumed a lot of that. It is possible that your pancreas is not producing enough digestive enzymes and your food is just sitting there fermenting instead of being digested. Many of us have found help taking digestive enzymes with meals. The supplement should contain amylase, protease, lipase, bromelain... -

ARCHIVED Why Is This Such A Popular Condition For People To Self Diagnose With?
mushroom replied to silvertail's topic in Publications & Publicity
Believe it or not, there are many people on this forum who will jump through hoops to try to prove that they are not celiac, because it is such a hard diet to follow and they do not want to give up the delicious gluten and put themselves through the necessary restrictions so that they can feel better. Some hope that medical science will develop a pill to... -

Just a quick poop-in after a couple of computer abyss days (t'is the season apparently). After much technical to and fro, a visit from the TelCo, much frustration, turns out *someone" screwed up the payments (no, not moi); cancelled the credit card charge but forgot to set up the automatic debit back in June So they sent us an email telling us about it... -
ARCHIVED Ok - Now I Am Frustrated - Do I Have This Or Not
mushroom replied to rahga's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the forum. I am afraid the answer to your question is a probable "maybe". If not celiac, at least gluten intolerance/sensitivity. The difficult thing for those whose tests show up negative is that the symptoms may be exactly the same, and one person can be positive and the other negative. Some people believe that those with all the symptoms... -

I don't know, but I'm thinking of trying it. -
Make sure you have cut out all lactose too; this was a major source of diarrhea for me.

ARCHIVED I,m New Here,i Have Questions
mushroom replied to janet43512's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi and welcome to the forum, Janet. Well, beer is certainly one thing that celiacs should avoid, made with malted barley. Reaction times to gluten vary with the individual and with the gluten carrier; my experience is that the reaction to beer happens rather quickly which is why I quit drinking it long before I quit gluten altogether. Why is your doctor... -
ARCHIVED New & Struggling.... Celiac?
mushroom replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your symptoms certainly sound like they could be attributable to celiac. If you are intending to have the blood panel run again anyway, here is what should be ordered: Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA Total Serum IgA The total Serum IGA is important because if this is... -
ARCHIVED Pet Peeve Regarding The Slaying Of The English Language.
mushroom replied to Imanistj's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
This may sound picky but it drives me nuts: Correct--between nine and ten; correct--from nine to ten. What you now hear most of the time (incorrect): between nine to ten. AAagggh! -
ARCHIVED Foul Smelling Stools
mushroom replied to jasonD2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Being gluten free does not guarantee perfect stool all the time. There will be times when there is no apparent cause for an intestinal upset. That said, I found out you do have to check herbal teas; I found some gluten in a Celestial Seasonings tea (before I tried it). -
ARCHIVED Can You Test False Negative?
mushroom replied to Dani Doll's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Unfortunately, false negatives are extremely common, whilst false positives are almost unheard of. both for blood work and endoscopy. Have you ever had the celiac blood panel of tests run: Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA Total Serum IgA This is the accepted... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Panel Positive, B12 & Iron Normal?
mushroom replied to alevoy18's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Peter, one of our moderators, had near total villous atrophy. Yeah, I would say you are pretty far down the villous damage road But if you are good and avoid all gluten, that's not to say that it will take forever to heal. You just must be very strict, both with the gluten and the lactose because no way you're going to digest that either. There is... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Lists Not Reliable
mushroom replied to JBaby's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I, personally, would use the lists as an indication of which items to select for label-reading, not as a substitute for label-reading, because there is no way to keep them current. It is just a way of weeding out all the known gluten-containing foods and focus only on those that may not contain any. -
ARCHIVED Mother Diagnosed, Wont Go On Diet
mushroom replied to ratty89's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am afraid we all have relatives in denial, one of my sisters being amongst them. Two sayings come to mind: "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink", and "There are none so blind as those who will not see." Your mother seems a classic case. She probably figures if it hasn't killed her yet, why bother?? And really probably has no...
