[ How long have you been gluten free? Many of us are the opposite of the weight loss celiac and gluten has caused us to gain. You may just find that eating gluten free with appropriate supplementation of whatever nutrients you are deficient in wil bring about natural weight loss. I have lost 44 lbs in a year but seem to have plateaued now.

Quote taken from the green letters in the second 1/2: "BCM-7 appears to play a significant role in the aetiology of human diseases(105). Epidemiological evidence from New Zealand claims that consumption of beta-casein A1 is associated with higher national mortality rates from ischaemic heart disease. It appears that the populations that consume milk containing...

ARCHIVED About "natural Flavors"
mushroom replied to mr. moore's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Probably not. Here the price sticker has the ingredients on the sticker. Don't know about there. They use flour as a binder in meats, especially ham. -
Jason, I just can't believe after what you must have read on this forum about all the sufferings of others from gluten intolerance when they didn't know what the problem was, that you who know that you have gluten intolerance are prepared to suffer the consequences of continuing to eat it and damn the consequences. Santa must have brought you a death wish...

I'm so sorry about your mom, Jason. It is so hard to reach someone who doesn't want to be reached. I have a sister who won't even consider that gluten might be damaging her although she has most of the same symptoms I had, and our other sister and her daughter are both celiac/gluten free. I agree that the foods the weight loss companies put out are...

ARCHIVED I Want To Become A Gluten Free/veg Chef!
mushroom replied to givenupgluten's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I watch a lot of cooking shows on the Food Channel and have wondered myself how a celiac could become a chef. I doubt that there is any such thing as a gluten-free cooking school. Maybe in the future. Watch the cooking shows, practice their techniques, take whatever classes you can find. Most of the good chefs have a natural instinct for food and... -
ARCHIVED Misdiagnosed-legal Recourse?
mushroom replied to hadabaday2day's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have worked in medical malpractice litigation in the U.S. (and have been malpracticed myself). Unfortunately, these cases are normally handled on a contingency basis like personal injury cases, meaning the attorney gets a percentage of whatever is recovered. You have to have pretty severe irreversible damage to make it worthwhile for an attorney to accept... -
ARCHIVED To Test Or Not To Test
mushroom replied to megyates's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Megan, and welcome to the forums. Gluten intolerance can be a rather lonely experience and a difficult one to make decisions about. It all comes down to an individual's needs. A goodly number of the folks here, myself included, have no official diagnosis and feel no need of it, because the treatment is the same regardless--avoid gluten. Others... -
Same goes for me. Decades of digestive issues, waxing and waning since childhood. Then specific reactions to U.S. corn in my 20's. Then major auto accident. Next thing I know, gut goes crazy, candida, lactose intolerance. Next to appear, rheumatoid arthritis, then psoriasis. Definitely the chicken came first; now it's laid an egg or two.

Doctor to patient: I have good news and bad news. The good news is that you are not a hypochondriac. -
I am a year gluten free. I had been lactose intolerant for years but find I can now tolerate the amount of milk in a cappuccino. Wouldn't dream of trying ice cream yet!

ARCHIVED New Diagnosis
mushroom replied to Roda's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That is great news!! As far as the bruising, there are several of us here that have this problem, along with very thin skin for some of us. One poster said that she was able to cure hers with vitamin supplements. Google it and you will probably find it--look for "raspberries and bruising and thin skin". -
ARCHIVED Should I Go To A New Doctor Specializing In Celiac?
mushroom replied to NYCCeliacMom's topic in Doctors
I have not tried to make this gluten free but I am planning to try it with the GFB pastry: BACON AND EGG PIE 2 sheets pre-rolled flaky pastry 1 onion, chopped 1 cup chopped bacon 1/2 cup mixed vegetables 2 tablespoons spicy chutney 6 eggs milk Use 1 sheet pastry to line a 20 cm square shallow pan. Sprinkle onion, bacon and mixed vegetables... -
ARCHIVED Should I Go To A New Doctor Specializing In Celiac?

I don't know how I would manage without my gluten-free bakery; not just wonderful breads, rolls, cookies, but things llike quiches, pizza, sausage rolls and bacon and egg pies (New Zealand specialties), pastry. doughnuts, muffins, bread crumbs, gluten-free sauces, the list goes on and on, even sponge cakes. They are wonderful! -

I believe they wil probably be different for each person. For me, I developed a bright red itchy rash on my torso from my neck down. This was from all the soy in the gluten replacement foods I consumed.

ARCHIVED I Want To Get A Test Done But Im Worried ...
mushroom replied to mr. moore's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Not back to square one, exactly. Certainly gluten is to be avoided entirely to the best of one's ability, but even if you get accidentally glutened, while you will suffer and do some additional damage, you will not go all the way back to square one. What I was saying in my clumsy way was that different people have different sensitivities and food processors... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else Tired Of "celiac" Vs "gluten Sensitive"?
mushroom replied to mhb's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yes, that is a good start. But the problem for most of us in trying to describe what we have is that the general public is not aware of any of this terminology, even if they have by now heard of celiac. Most people don't know what gluten is or where it is found, they think of a disease as something contagious (look how afraid people used to be of those... -
ARCHIVED New Here And Have Quite A Few Questions.
mushroom replied to hadabaday2day's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Gosh, hadabaday2day, sounds like you had a bad5years and a badoc to boot. If you had a positive diagnosis 5 years ago, then you are a celiac. Many of us are not even able to get a positive diagnosis to rely on. How can a doc send you on your way with a positive diagnosis??? There is never, to my knowledge, a false positive, only false negatives. It... -
ARCHIVED I Want To Get A Test Done But Im Worried ...
mushroom replied to mr. moore's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
ppm = parts per million! But I think in the U.S. the standard is 20 ppm. The Codex Alimentarius in the UK permits them to include 200 ppm, as I understand it, which would probably be enough to set most people off from my point of view. But I am not one of the more sensitive ones to tiny amounts and therefore engage in the "risky" behavior of eating... -

ARCHIVED How Much Of This Is Celiac, Or Could There Be Other Issues?
mushroom replied to medic8r's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Symptoms are very individual to each person; we each react in our own way. I had diarrhea, others have constipation; some vomit, some don't; some have no GI symptoms at all. Some lose lots of weight, others gain. Some have migraines and neuropathy, others don't. It is very hard to say that one specific set of symptoms is or is not celiac. I think it... -
How about rheumatoid arthritis/psoriatic arthritis for starters. One year gluten free and neither have gone away. Plus I can't tolerate the disease-modifying anti-rheumatoid drugs. Try living with arthritic hands and feet, constant itching, thick scales all over your scalp, scales over 10% of the rest of your body. Don't eat gluten!! I didn't know...
