ARCHIVED I"ve About Had Enough Of This !
mushroom replied to ncdave's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think if I were you Dave, I would just go ahead and get the tests. If your levels are okay with the supplementation then keep on with the supplements. If they are not you will need to increase and your doctor can help with this.. And yes, 100mg of soy would do that to me -
ARCHIVED Auto-Immune Disease:
mushroom replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
And there is a tendency to develop other autoimmune diseases if you have untreated celiac disease, hence my psoriatic arthritis. I presume you were worried about your pancreas with the IgG4 test? -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Negative
mushroom replied to Jodster72's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Obviously, they only ran one of the five tests, probably the tTG (tissue transglutaminase). It is possible to be negative on some of the tests and positive on others. Also, if you were eating no bread or pasta, you probably were not getting enough gluten. I am not very familiar with the biocard test and its degree or reliability so can't comment there... -
ARCHIVED Whats The Deal With Corn
mushroom replied to buckwheat's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
And many are beginning to suspect that, as they suspect with wheat and soy, it is all the fiddling around with genetic modification that is creating the corn digestive problems in susceptible inmdividuals. -
Dave,if you got over flu in three days you were one very lucky dude

ARCHIVED Having gluten-free Food Brought Over Postpartum
mushroom replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Assuming you know your hospital, I would make an appointment with the dietician and let her know your due date and discuss it with her, and then alert the admitting clerk to contact the dietician when you are admitted. I lucked out when I was hospitalized this summer that the dietician was a celiac but you still have to watch out for the kitchen -
ARCHIVED Only Realised What Gluten Was 30Days Ago, New Here
mushroom replied to deals88's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
At this point I am afraid the doctor will not be able to be very helpful to you. All the testing that he can do requires that you be eating a full gluten diet to be in any way valid, both celiac blood tests and biopsy. The tests are looking for anti-gliadin antibodies in the blood and damage in the small intestine. Both of these can disappear very quickly... -
ARCHIVED Only Realised What Gluten Was 30Days Ago, New Here
mushroom replied to deals88's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If they were not specifically looking for celiac on the biopsy, they would not find it; it requires special staining of the sample. -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Result Confusion
mushroom replied to Ligii13's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No, it is not confusing -- see the responses you have already received. With a family history and an elevated tTG it is highly likely you have celiac disease. You can either follow your primary care's advice and make an appointment with a gastroenterologist for confirmation of the diagnosis, or try the gluten free diet if you don't want to go that route... -
I get a flu shot religiously. My lungs are so bad I can't risk flu or pneumonia (again!). That's how come I ended up in ICU with aspiration pneumonia this summer

ARCHIVED Contradictory Symptoms & Tests
mushroom replied to kiddo88's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Leukocytes (white blood cells) are used by your body to fight infection. With a negative culture it is really difficult to say what they are doing in your urine What does your doctor say? -
ARCHIVED What Nutrients/vitamins Am I Lacking?
mushroom replied to Thewiseguy's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Welcome to the forum, wiseguy. It is always best to check for nutrient deficiencies before supplementing on a large scale such as some of us have to do. However, if you are not celiac and have no intestinal damage (were you tested by biopsy?) you may not be grossly deficient in the usual nutrients associated with celiac intestinal damage like B12, D,... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Result Confusion
mushroom replied to Ligii13's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There are other conditions that could potentially cause an elevated tTG IgA. Usually doctors like to do an endoscopy with biopsy to verify the blood test findings. It is unusual for all tests to be positive; that is why it is recommended that the full panel be run or you risk missing the diagnosis. If your mother is celiac the chances are pretty good that... -
ARCHIVED Contradictory Symptoms & Tests
mushroom replied to kiddo88's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No, gluten loading right before testing does not cut the mustard. The consumption should be continuous Whether or not you need a diagnosis is entirely up to you. I do not have one, in fact I gave up consulting doctors for my food intolerances and just use my PCP to order the tests I think I need which she is happy to do. Many people find that... -
ARCHIVED Migraines
mushroom replied to jenarella's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, the board does have some automatic functions. g f is converted to gluten free. I am assuming c d is converted to celiac disease. -
ARCHIVED Contradictory Symptoms & Tests
mushroom replied to kiddo88's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Unfortunately, Lisa is right. The antibodies can disappear quite quickly in the absence of gluten. There is no way of knowing if yours will or not. Since you have eaten gluten for 24 years, can you hang in there for a few more days? I am assuming here that you do want to try for a diagnosis. If the diagnosis is not important to you then by all... -
ARCHIVED Contradictory Symptoms & Tests
mushroom replied to kiddo88's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board, kiddo Celiac is not automatically on a GI's list when he does an endoscopy; in fact some have to have there arms twisted to put it on the list. Even if it was on the list and he did a celiac biopsy, one is not enough; the disease does not appear uniformly and it is easy to miss, thus it is recommended that at least six be taken.... -
Yes, our own experience can trump what a doctor tells us. They do not know everything; only we know how our body feels. Researchers and doctors are only just becoming aware of non-celiac gluten intolerance. You really must, if you do not wish further harm down the road, resist the temptation of that gluteny gooey chocolate; goodness only knows there...

Shauna, I definitely agree with you on this. How many of us before diagnosis have been told that we need to see a shrink (sometimes in exactly those words , and in a somewhat pejorative and unhelpful sense) in having our symptoms dismissed. No matter how much education there is out there about the mind/body, and how it doesn't matter which one of those...

Welcome, TGK, and yes, unfortunately when it comes to celiac/gluten, confusion reigns supreme. First you should know that if it is covered at all in medical school, it occupies maybe 2-5 minutes (just guessing here, but there is so much for a would-be doctor to learn and it gets short shrift). Someone told me the other day that medical knowledge is...

Welcome back!!! So sorry to hear about the house, but hey - you found a nutritionist. Things balance out a bit. We will be looking forward to a report on your visit to Dr. Fasano.

ARCHIVED My First Ge Visit
mushroom replied to Dixie81411's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you want to try adding fiber you don't have to load up the gluten. Psyllium husks are great for adding fiber. -
ARCHIVED Curious About What Vitamins Are You Deficient?
mushroom replied to roxieb73's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
With a level that low I would ask for a DEXA scan to check my bone density since D is critical in bone formation. Then again, maybe you used up all your D making bone -
ARCHIVED So Many Questions ,
mushroom replied to cloudsxxx's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi and welcome. To answer your last question first off, celiac disease is actually not an allergy - it is an autoimmune response by the body to gluten. This means that the body mistakenly starts attacking itself. An allergy is when you develop hives or anaphylacic shock after eating something. There is a mistaken belief by many that you have to...
