ARCHIVED High Positive On Igg Elisa Test For Foods I Don't Eat?!
tom replied to Carebear's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I haven't disputed anyone's experiences. I had to point out that the Drs quote doesn't apply once leaky gut is taken into account. Specialists LOOOOVE an isolated system. IH, your 1st reply called it a waste of $$ and cited the article. It's a Chicago Tribune article (by the "health & fitness reporter") w/ pretty obvious weaknesses, not something... -

Thx Lisa. D'oh I went to link & it's got a lot about the uninsured, pre-ex conds, & kids but I couldn't find anything there about insured ppl getting dumped. -
ARCHIVED Getting Confused
tom replied to trayne91's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I didn't bring up insurance worries or say she'd get cancelled. The OP said she was worried that her ins might be canceled. I said I thought they couldn't legally do that anymore. It's something they had been doing for a long time. I was mostly hoping that someone following the implemention of - what should we be calling the health care bill here... -

ARCHIVED High Positive On Igg Elisa Test For Foods I Don't Eat?!
tom replied to Carebear's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
The testing for intolerances WILL someday be accurate & reliable. I've never said current tests are great, just that they can be useful. Not to everyone, of course, bu they're not usless either. The Trib article, w/out its positive aspects, almost says the tests are just a waste of $5000, whereas a number of forum members have recently weighed in on... -
ARCHIVED High Positive On Igg Elisa Test For Foods I Don't Eat?!
tom replied to Carebear's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I brought up leaky gut specifically because a Dr you quoted in HIS dismissing of the tests qualified his statement w/ the preface "in the gut-associated immune system". I'm saying there are things going on beyond the gut which shouldn't be ignored. They're explicitly excluded by that preface. I think I should've been more clear when I wrote "the science... -
Anyone Try Daura gluten-free Beer?
tom replied to jasonD2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Everybody see this? Now American breweries are making "deglutened" gluten-free beer w/ barley malt too. -
ARCHIVED New To This And Still Not Sure If It Is Celiac Disease
tom replied to scaredblossom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sorry you're feeling poorly again, blossom. I get the feeling this doesn't include trying a plain baked potato. Which oil is used in potato chips makes a HUGE difference for me. Canola makes me dizzy so I usually have to skip anything that has the "this or this or this or this oil" since one is invariably canola. Ramble away & we'll ramble... -

Karen? I was replying to the OP. Here's what the OP said. I'm not sure what to think of seeing your reply address me as if I'm just now getting an endoscopy. I KNOW you know I've been here awhile. Anyway, for the OP again - does anyone know if the Ins Co can still cancel trayne91 like in the past or did that part of the ACA/Health... -
ARCHIVED High Positive On Igg Elisa Test For Foods I Don't Eat?!
tom replied to Carebear's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Of course you're not wrong, it's pretty well-established that most celiacs get leaky gut, unless gluten-free very early. That was my point in bringing up Alba & Dr Fasano. It IS well-known. So for the Dr dismissing food intolerance blood tests to qualify statements w/ "gut-associated immune system" invalidates those statements w/ respect to real... -

Aw, damn no comments on the Omission gluten-free Beer thread. I'm guessing it's more due to it being in the Publications section than anything else, right? Beer threads usually get ppl talking. Anyway . ....how can someone of sound mind name a gluten-free beer OMISSION and not actually omit the barley??????! Usually Oregon plays to a... -

If that's for me it was multiple brands & my dairy symptoms are easily distinguishable from gluten symptoms. -
ARCHIVED Getting Confused
tom replied to trayne91's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sheesh that is truly horrible for a practicing GI doc to think the entire intestines would show celiac damage homogeneously. Even just one proper positive biopsy of a celiac would show differences betw samples. Or maybe he's never read more than the Summary on the lab report? Or does the lab he's using only look at one sample? That's nuts. Not knowing... -
ARCHIVED Question About Gluten Challenge
tom replied to Brittany85's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That's Ataxia, btw. There can be other causes but Gluten Ataxia is the term a Dr would use once convinced the gluten caused it. -

ARCHIVED High Positive On Igg Elisa Test For Foods I Don't Eat?!
tom replied to Carebear's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
The original article nonetheless included glowing patient testimonials. The science is incomplete and the article completely ignores the effects of leaky gut, which is what the "celiac pill" from Alba Therapeutics (and Dr Fasano) actually treats. Page 2 Open Original Shared Link The 95% claim looks to be from the sales dept of the "florida... -

tom replied to IrishHeart's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Aren't some of those quotes ignoring leaky gut & the implications of things in the bloodstream that don't belong? Aha ..there! The Dr starts sentence w/ "The gut-associated immune system" - so in that textbook-style context he might be 100% right - as long as nobody ever has compromised intestinal permeability. But leaky gut's well-known now &... -
Whoa! I guess I read too much into the name Omission! I'm sure my mistake is common & I don't want to wantonly assign nefarious motives. (Only said I didn't want to, not that I wouldn't wonder) Omission? They didn't omit any more gluteney beer ingredients than budweiser does. It's another barley malt beer claiming to be deglutened by process. Doesn...

ARCHIVED New To This And Still Not Sure If It Is Celiac Disease
tom replied to scaredblossom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Blossom's not so Scared anymore, eh? Looks like you're on the right track. My money's on it being more than ok. Make sure the Dr knows this. The eating itself is a test w/ a result, but not all Drs inquire about it. I'd even want to call the office if I were towards the end of the challenge anyway just to see if a nurse or whoever could... -

I had to switch to a 'vegan formula' one because I was getting dairy symptoms from regular ones. So I use the green-topped PB8 from WhFds. Blue top is regular. -

I've never heard of any cc issues or even questions about Redbridge before. In fact, when it launched, the story was limited supply due to limited dedicated factory space, which was being increased. Heard it from an AB employee I've known for 45 yrs. Is there anyone here who believes they were glutened by a Redbridge? -

tom replied to Mnicole1981's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ow, did you go? Are the back & chest any better today? If it's a heartburn thing, I've been reading here lately that many ppl are helped w/ apple cider vinegar. I'm ready to try it next time I get any of that. It's taken diluted, but i'd search this forum for ACV for details. Hope you're doing ok. -

ARCHIVED So Confused
tom replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Haven't people been dx'd w/ 6 wks? Lotta Drs use 4 wks or 6 wks, apparently, by what ppl have have posted here. They can't be diagnosing none of their gluten challenge patients w/ celiac, can they? Certainly from a statistical standpoint, 3 months picks up more of the tail of a distribution but at some point picking up just one more percent might mean...
