  1. We had a traditional Chinese New Year dinner last night with rice, Taiwanese spinach, and fish (which is traditional for new year).
  2. Thank you for sharing this recipe!
  3. It's interesting how nutrient deficiencies can cause a chain reaction and many other issues. Celiac disease definitely doesn't stop with just a gluten-free diet, and most people need supplementation to fully recover.
  4. For me it was closer to two years, but like all celiacs, especially going back to the time when I was diagnosed (mid 90's), there were errors in my diet that were made along the way, so it might have been only 1 year had I done everything right. This article may be helpful:
  5. Sorry but in your post you say: "prior to seeing the GI i had an ultrasound that showed gallbladder liver and pancreas were all normal and i had a blood test as well which showed all my levels were normal." I guess I don't understand your post, because you said that your gallbladder is normal. Did the doctor find something that you are not sharing in your...
  6. I think this varies greatly from person to person, and depends on how much damage was done to your intestines, but for me I began feeling better immediately. My full recovery took a couple of years, and I also had to temporarily eliminate several other foods in addition to gluten to recover.
  7. What IGG supplement do you mean? I've not heard of this in support of celiac disease, but am interested to find out more. I recently stated using a probiotic called Bifidobacterium Infantis, which does have research that backs it up as something that can help people with celiac disease: https://www.celiac.com/search/?&q=infantis&type=cms_records...
  8. Many people definitely notice this, as well as a reduced number of trips to the bathroom! I wasn't in the habit of counting my toilet paper usage, but can attest that the before vs. after going gluten-free was a dramatic shift in reduced trips to the bathroom.

  15. Celiac.com 02/15/2021 - A number of studies have tied celiac disease to psychiatric disorders, but there is still not much good data to support the connection. To get a better picture of the issue, a team of researchers recently set out...
  16. I agree with @trents that if you are going to try the gluten-free diet in this case it should probably be all or nothing--100% gluten-free would be the only way to see if his symptoms improve. It's your call, and your doctor's call, of course, but to do another gluten challenge properly could add a long time onto his recovery time. Doing a thyroid test makes...
  17. Our list is a USA food list, and you have linked to ingredients from a medications list. Medications may use different sources for their ingredients, or may be made in other countries, but if the foods are made in the USA those ingredients are gluten-free.
  18. Be sure not to go gluten-free until all testing for celiac disease is completed, or you may end up with false negative results. Since your grandfather has it the likelihood that you also have it would be higher because ~44% of first degree relatives also have it. Does the rash ever have tiny clear heads on it? Maybe they were scratched off? If it...
  19. Welcome to the forum! The one thing you haven't really made clear with the directions they gave to you is what they told you about the necessity of you going on a 100% gluten-free diet for life...did they mention this? This is the only proper medical treatment for celiac disease, and not steroids or antibiotics. The only reason I can think of that...
  20. Celiac.com 02/12/2021 - There are few soups more iconic than split pea and ham soup. Like a good clam chowder, a good split pea and ham soup is a wonder to enjoy. In this slow cook version, the simple marriage of chicken broth, onion...
  21. I think the article says that the use of PPIs or NSAIDs can cause your blood antibody levels to be lower, even if you have celiac disease. So using them will mask CD and make diagnosis more difficult.
  22. To make matters even more confusing, there is a new study that we'll summarize shortly that says that PPI use can cause blood tests for celiac disease to be inaccurate: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28462884/
