  1. Maida flour, used in the pastry on samosas is very highly refined, low gluten and often contains part tapoica starch. So its really not the thing to choose for an allergy challenge....
  2. I did the unnatural totally processed route- I drank gallons of Ensure Plus when I was first going gluten free. Its got no gluten and no lactose. And I did not have to think about what to eat, which is hard enough for me on a good day....Ensure and bananas... Has your doctor sent you to an endo or a metabolic disease expert yet?
  3. I hope to goodness your eyes are in your head I had to go to a major teaching hospital before I found an eye doc who had a clue. Pacific College of Vision, actually. The guy I'd been seeing just told me I "needed to blink more" Its amazing how many doctors I've had to sort through over the years to find a couple with some brains
  4. And don't forget, if you're having fat malabsorption secondary to celiac, if you go out and eat heavy, greasy food such as steak or fried foods, you can get classic malabsorption symptoms without being glutened-good ol' bloat, cramps and D. If you have fat malabsorption it may take some time before you can tolerate many foods again. Two months is not long...
  5. I like unnatural, greasy food :lol:Hormel corned beef hash and eggs. Sliced turkey, avacado and bacon. Big piles of Delimex beef Taquitos with sour cream. Hormel pepperoni...with, uh, more pepperoni.
  6. Frozen shoulder is related to autoimmune disease. Have you seen an endo to evaluate for underlying causes? Open Original Shared Link
  7. Of course there is the well known connection between celiac and Sjogren's, which causes severe dry eye. There is a simple test (the Schirmer test) for the dry eye where they put little strips of blotter paper in your eye and see how long it takes them to get damp, lots of fun (NOT!) 8. Has your dentist mentioned dry mouth as a possibility? I'm one of those celiacs with Sjogren's so have severe dry mouth issues, which causes all sorts of tooth problems There is this great (gluten free) prescription stuff, Caphosol,to remineralize your teeth, I love it-most dentists have never heard of it Open Original Shared Link I never had proper calcium...
  9. Open Original Shared Link Well, according to that link limping toddler means panic and run to the doc! Looks scary.... I hope they can find out what is wrong.
  10. Have you looked into gene testing? There are several excellent posts about that option on this site.
  11. They kept telling me mine was genital herpes (somehow I do not think my elbows are part of my genitals ), then it was shingles then somebody finally managed to do a decent biopsy! Here are some pics Open Original Shared Link just search on Dermatitis herpetiformis.
  12. I have Sjogren's syndrome and gluten exposure will send me into a "flare". Don't forget to tell your doc your full range of symptoms, maybe they will want to do a sed rate and C-reactive protein etc while you are glutenated. Those are tests measure inflamation. If you're going to gluten up you might as well get your money's worth out of the awful experience...
  13. I have a several other issues so have had to have a lot of invasive proceedures-if I could've gotten by without them I would've been most happy. Your doctor is being wonderfully sensible . Back years ago when I was far less informed I used to think a proper biospy confirmed diagnosis was the only way to go, but as I've learned more about this disease (and...
  14. Every since schools started depending on snack and soft drink sales for operating money the kids have been neck deep in sugar. And did you see in the New York Times how the kids who need free school lunches are ashamed to eat them because they have the healthier free lunch lines seperate from the" buy a ton of cookies and cake and soda" pay lines in some...
  15. I used to use benefiber in baking (guar gum) but then they went and changed it to wheat dextrin, drat them Open Original Shared Link
  16. Ok, this is the way my doc explained it to me-now this is a doc talking to an idiot so bear with me. He said that when you are seriously malnourised, your body hangs onto everything. That is why you can see obese people with serious malnutrition. They are obese and anemic and their serium protein is through the floor. When your body starts getting better...
  17. My hepatologist agrees with you!!! Its made it onto the American Diabetes Assn. Website Open Original Shared Link Lisa-One thing you might consider-even though your Mom's or Cousin's doctor can't talk to you (because of HIPPA) you can provide information to their health care providers. Just give them all your bloodwork (Fedex is good) with a brief...
  18. I know they had wheat derived glucose syrup the last time I saw this argument (which was two years ago, I missed an Easter due to being in the hospital). The Cadbury UK site has some good information on this, as does the Irish Celiac site.
  19. One of the primary causes of death during the famine (besides starvation) was Typhus. If celiac makes us immune to typhus that would be really cool! Sort of like sickle cell and malaria? I can't find anything on that online, if you find out anything do post.
  20. I'm totally with Ursa Major because I had to have three biopsies before they got it right. The derm has to know what they are doing, and the lab has to know how to read it.
  21. Also, has anybody tried pancreatic digetive enzymes? They are available prescription and over the counter. There are stool tests to show if you are actually digesting meat or fat. Not the most fun test in the world... Open Original Shared Link
  22. Did I get here in time for the "does glucose syrup derived from wheat contain gluten?" argument. That one is nearly as much fun as the vinegar and food starch arguments. I hate those nasty eggs so it does not bother me. Its all going to boil down to who you believe, who you trust and how you react-considering whats gone on lately with stuff like cat food...
  23. I just posted a link to an article on celiac in India. I think its everywhere it just isn't diagnosed. They used to say celiac in the US was a disease of upper middle class white women because they were the ones who could afford all the testing... Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
  24. After being gluten free for a while I was able to switch to the cheaper over the counter stuff (pine tar) for occasional flare ups. I still use the pine tar soap because I like it
  25. Agree totally....The Amy's is not bad if you doctor it up some. If you live near whole foods you can try their pizza shells, I like them better if you put plenty of olive oil on them so they will crisp up a little, you can also put a lot of parmasian cheese on the bottom before you heat it and let that add a crispiness if they are too soft for you. Its a...
