  2. This was on our news yesterday, I thought it would be of interest: Open Original Shared Link
  3. I thought you guys might enjoy this: Three doctors are waiting in line to get into the pearly gates. St. Peter walks out and asks the first one, "What have you done to enter Heaven?" "I am a pediatrician and have brought thousands of the Lord's babies into the world." "Good enough to enter the gates," replied St. Peter and in he goes. The same...
  4. Do you have your own toaster? Also, do you have your own pots/pans and cooking utensils? Karen
  5. I also have collagenous colitis. Pepto is the first line of treatment. If that doesn't work, you move onto Budesonide (a mild form of steriod). If that doesn't work, they move you onto Prednisone. Karen
  6. I saw this in my NEJM newsletter I get and even with just the 100 word abstract, it screamed out celiac to me! Karen
  7. Yes, it is! Pepto Bismol is the treatment they first start you with when treating collagenous colitis. (Only they give you massive doses!) Karen
  8. You definitely need to find another job. This post reminds me of someone who was on here who was diagnosed and married to a wheat farmer! OY! Just out of curiosity: You name piqued my interest. I am a HUGE Alf fan. I have Season 1 and Season 2 on DVD and waiting for more. I loved watching him back in the 80's and now I have my kids hooked on him...
  9. Although I can understand the point of view regarding people not taking proper care of themselves, one must also remember all the diseases are we are pre-disposed to, celiac being a perfect example. Taking good care of yourself does squat when you have family genes that give you a disease anyway (i.e. breast cancer, diabetes, heart failure, etc.)..........
  10. How true! I can picture a very intricate design of dominos, each domino being an autoimmune disease. Now, we may be diagnosed with one or two different auto-immune diseases, but which was the "trigger" domino, the one that started the whole ball rolling? Maybe celiac or hypothryoidism is in the middle of the domino chain, and after years of suffering,...
  11. I also get this - and for me, it is gluten related, most definitely. It scared the heck out of me before I found out that gluten triggered it. For me, sometimes it would go on constantly for 1/2 hour or more. Thought I was a goner for sure. Whitball, what do you do if the "flops" do not stop? Karen
  12. Lisa, Have you been neglecting yourself to care for Hazel? You are too much like me, I know the answer already..... Alot of it sounds like what I get like when I am over-stressed, and push myself too hard. I don't eat, I don't slow down, I just keep on going until everything that needs to be done gets done, and there never are enough hours in...
  13. I can trace my trigger back to when I was vacationing in Jamaica and got food poisoning. That was back in the mid 1980's, and I have literally had permanent diarrhea since then. Seriously, nothing but water since the mid 1980's. 20 - 30 times a day. Every day. I can look back in my childhood though and all the signs were there. I was a terrible...
  14. Alot of the Canadian health care system needs improvement, but alot of it is also hit or miss. When my mom was hospitalized with diverticulitis last fall, she got excellent care. She was discharged (after the initial attack had subsided), had the colonoscopy the following week, showed she needed surgery, and was booked and had it two weeks later. I firmly...
  15. Keep in mind that if the problem is gluten intolerence, but not full blown Celiac, that will not show up on any bloodwork....... I firmly believe that is the case with most people who test negative on the bloodwork: They don't have full blown celiac, but are definitely gluten intolerant...... Karen
  16. Here is the list I found on here: They can test you for Celiac disease if you havent been tested and are still consuming gluten. These are the tests for the Celiac Panel: Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA Total Serum IgA Karen
