  1. I was told for 12 years I couldnt possibly be hypothyroid because I was skinny and had D. I didnt fit the text book patient. And my labs came back "alright" for those years too. Until I learned that over 5 years ago the TSH was changed. Once I learned that, I printed out a copy and took it to my doctor who said...well looks like you are hypothyroid afterall...
  2. I didnt start at phase 1, but my GI symptoms were mild. If they were bad, I would have started there. It has helped me just by sticking with the legal foods and avoiding the illegal. I have the occasional sweet potato or plantain. The rest is SCD. I bought 2 cookbooks as well as printing off recipes on line for free. Also came up with some of my...
  3. I can ask around at my next Celiac Support meeting in Tampa. It is in December though. I can also shoot an email to the woman who runs the group. Never know. Could be someone has a big house and is gluten-free and could take on a boarder with shared kitchen. I did this for a few semesters (I wasnt gluten-free then) but found a great lady with a big house...
  4. Oh oh oh...I found a REAL TREAT. Coconut Cream without any additives. Not even water. No gums. No preservatives. Nothing SCD illegal. Open Original Shared Link It is concentrated so you just add water. I cannot wait to get it. I have been making my own (used to use canned) and while it is good, it gets tiring. Geez....I already make so...

Did they test your antibodies to thyroid?
  6. Those optical migraines are scary. Especially the first time. Mine were caused from birth control pills (17 years ago). I stopped having them when I got off the pill. But had one about 5 months ago after I tried to have some wine. I dont normally drink any alcohol at all. But had 1/2 glass of wine and it triggered one of those optical migraines. Bah...
  7. That pie does look yummy!! I made my own recipe for pumpkin pie using homemade coconut cream, pumpkin, eggs, vanilla, honey, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg. I make an almond flour crust with butter, almond flour, salt, eggs and a bit of the yogurt. It is very very good. I was in hog heaven today at the store as it is SQUASH SEASON!!! I got spaghetti, butternut...
  8. Yeah...I was gonna yell CALL 911 NOW!!! I agree it could be a pinched nerve. They can cause weird sensations and pains. I would talk to a doctor and see what they think.
  9. Hey Cathy! I hope someone responds. My Hubby teaches at USF. He is a History Prof. You might also consider Craig's List. Just be specific that you are looking for someone that is Celiac or Gluten Intolerant. Or someone who follows a grain free diet would be good too. The good news is there are lots of places around Tampa to get gluten...
  10. Celiac isnt easy to dx. There are many stages to the disease and if you do not have a lot of damage yet, you could test NEG even if you are eating a lot of gluten. For some a proper dx only comes once they are severely damaged. You could test POS on gluten-lite diet, but it is less likely. You could up your gluten eating for 2 or 3 months and...
  11. It's true that vertigo can have MANY causes and you have to be quite a sleuth to try to find out why. Some of us never find the answer. But I am improving gluten-free so I have to assume it was either directly related to gluten or do to a nutritional deficiency because of gluten intolerance. I was originally told a virus...but when it didnt go away after...
  12. The address I sent the letter to was in Ohio. I am in Florida. So when she called I was surprised to recognize a FL area code. She is living in Jacksonville FL!! We are only about 3 hours apart. So we are planning to meet half way soon. I am sure when we talk some more gluten intolerance will come up. I will mention the connection to depression...
  13. Welcome to the board! I would recommend you going to a Neurologist for a full work up and evaluation. You can always try a casein free diet to see if your symptoms improve. I will mention that "trying" to be gluten-free does not work. You really have to make sure that you are 100% gluten-free for awhile to see if it gets rid of your symptoms. I...
  14. Enterolab cannot dx Celiac. You have obvious gluten sensitivity and a Celiac gene. Are you gluten-free right now? If you are not you can go get bloodwork for Celiac from your regular doctor. If you do not care for an official dx of Celiac, then you can just adopt the gluten-free diet and get healthy. You need to be on it for life. Yes, your...
  15. Im sorry your family is not being very compassionate or understanding. You may want to plan a visit to your doctor and take your Mom along so that she can hear it from an M.D. This might make it more of a reality for her and hopefully she will then spread that to others in your family.
  16. I made a delicious SCD legal Pumpkin Smoothie this morning. It is getting cooler, so next time I am going to heat it on the stove for a yummy warm drink.
  17. Are you convinced now?
  18. When you get back have then test your blood sugar, Vassopresin (diabetes insipidus), aldosterone/renin, and your kidney function. I am not an M.D. If it were me, I would try to find a doctor where you are to get checked out.
  19. I do not know if gluten is what is causing your migraines, but I can tell you that since I went gluten-free I have not had one (except one small one when I got CC at Whole Foods). And I used to get 2 or more a month. I am migraine free!! I really hope you get to the bottom of this soon. It is no way to live and I feel for you.
  20. I tried it this morning too. No burping here. So I am going to add some HCL plus Pepsin to my protein meals for a week. I took one with lunch and dinner yesterday with no ill effects. Will like to see what a week will do. I am using a low dose of 250 mg. I might raise it after a week depending on how it goes. I have taken HCL before years ago when...
  21. Happy Birthday Lisa!!
  22. You are so right Jenny. It totally changed who I was. I went from an outgoing social person to a homebound recluse. It is the worst of all and any symptoms I have ever had. Thank you for sharing your story. You never know when it could help someone else.
  23. Unusual thirst should be discussed with your doctor. It could be benign, but it could also be indicative of diabetes (which is common with Celiacs). There could also be an issue with your adrenal glands (aldosterone/renin). I suggest seeing a doctor.
  24. I have never heard of that Jenny. Wow!! So glad you got help for it. I looked it up. Did you have headaches with it?
  25. Welcome to my world for the last 12 years. It is not a fun place and I would not wish it anyone. I went to 3 ENTs and 1 neurologist for it. I wont lie, the tests are awful. They intentionally make you dizzy over and over. I wanted to puke so bad and after both with the two different ENTs I felt so off kilter afterwards for a few days. I couldnt...
