ARCHIVED Validity Of Stool Test?
ShayFL replied to scooper's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Doctors are always resistant to anything new or unpublished. Dont forget it wasnt that long ago that Cigarettes were "just what the doctor ordered". That's right doctors used to prescribe cigarettes. They know a lot, but they dont know everything. I believe Enterolab to be reliable and I know MANY in here will agree. I did a genetic test also with... -

ShayFL replied to ShayFL's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yeah...my reaction to gluten is migraine and vertigo....just dont ever see a good time for that...LOL I emailed one of the companies that makes it without any gluten grains cuz their site said shipping would be available soon. I know I can make my own. But geez....I already make EVERYTHING I eat from scratch. It would be nice to have a few ready made... -
Can he have dairy or soy? If so...it is eggnog season!! In the cold case there will be soy and dairy eggnog. I think it just might be the most caloric drink on the planet. I love it........but cant do regular dairy. I dont think eggnog kefir would be very good. You could mix it 1/2 and 1/2 with straight milk or soy milk to dilute the sugar. Or make...

ARCHIVED Just Ate Oats With Milk And Have Stomach Cramps
ShayFL replied to motif's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Rest drink lots of water....some say slippery elm bark tablets help. Aloe. Marshmallow. You can get certified gluten-free oats. Bob's has some and others. But some Celiacs react to the protein in oats like gluten. So you would have to heal up and try the gluten-free oats to see. -
ARCHIVED Grapeseed Oil
ShayFL replied to mushroom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Macadamia nut oil is good too. I think med-high heat. I use grapeseed oil now and again. It has way more Omega 6 than olive oil, so I dont use it too much to maintain fatty acid balance in my diet. -
Welcome to the boards Tracey. I hope you feel better soon. It is good to vent and thank goodness they found the Celiac!! Now you can finally start healing. No, you cannot get your thyroid back and you will need meds for life for it. But hopefully with enough time, you heal to a point to greatly reduce and even eliminate those other pills. Please ask...

ARCHIVED Is It Cheating If You've Already Been Glutened?
ShayFL replied to Silliest of Yaks's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
And dont forget the "addictive" properties of gluten. It's metabolites fit nicely into our opiate receptors in our brains. Eat a ton of it and there will be a price to pay. You will want more even though it kills you. Just like I here talking.....If I already got a bread crumb....might as well eat a croissant. That is just your addictive brain talking... -

ARCHIVED Need Some Help And Opinions, Please
ShayFL replied to LoisArbuckle's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Lois and welcome. A lot of people are self dx. You do not need a doctor's opinion to go on a gluten-free diet. But I will give a warning. If you are the kind of person that will "cheat" without an official dx, then you should get one. The reason being is that if you truly do have Celiac, everytime you eat gluten it will cause an autoimmune reaction... -
ARCHIVED Can We Talk About Sex?
ShayFL replied to kschauer's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My drive is not near what it used to be. But the thing I find is that if me and DH have not in awhile, I miss it and I crave it. Not so much for the physical release, but for the connection it gives us. If you think about it, Sex is the one thing that makes marriage special. You can live with anyone. You can enjoy anyone's company. You can laugh and... -
ARCHIVED Latent Celiac Disease?
ShayFL replied to roxnhead's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If they didnt take a lot of samples from your intestines in a variety of places, they could have missed damage. Often it is patchy. PLUS - do ask for a copy of ALL of your labwork and the biopsy interpretation. You will want these for your records and many have found out that the biopsy was POS but their doctor didnt know how to read them correctly. Leave... -
Sometimes I have to keep in mind that a lot of the people who come in here are not "health nuts" like me. I too Ali do not see giving a child artificial drinks. But many people simply do not have the wherewithall to know how to eat healthy. Secondly, once a child gets a taste for sweets, it is murder getting them off. And many overworked, overstressed...

ARCHIVED Coco-biotic By Body Ecology
ShayFL posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have been looking for ready made coconut kefir. I am currently drinking goat milk kefir. It is helping me, but frankly, I just dont like dairy. I dont like the aftertaste of ANY dairy. I found 2 companies that sell it, but they dont ship. Body Ecology does, but here are the ingredients: https://shop.bodyecology.com/images/be301sf.webp Then it... -

ShayFL replied to dizzygrinch's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
The flour IS bitter. But if you rinse the grains well whole and cook them they are not. But Im not eating any grains at the moment. I tried corn again recently.....and up went the blood sugar. I'll stick to veggies and some fruits for my carbs. -
This forum is filled with all sorts of people. People like you who just "lurk". People who come in here only when they feel like crap to vent. People who are new to the disease and need valid help. People who find Celiac/Gluten intolerance interesting even though they dont have it. And people who are doing well, but come in here just to help others and...

I have lived in Florida (The Sunshine State) for 37 years....nearly all my life. With the exception of a day at the beach here and there, I have NEVER worn sunscreen. I dont wear foundation. My skin cream does not have UV protection. I am fair skinned. Not like a red headed Irish girl, but very light indeed. And my skin looks better and younger than...

ARCHIVED Need Advice- Should I Mention Something To Teachers?
ShayFL replied to HAK1031's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If it were me, I would speak to my teachers about it. I cannot imagine someone not being understanding. Make it clear that it would be rare that you would ever have to get up suddenly and go to he bathroom, but it could happen. It has been 22 years since I was a senior in HS but I do not remember having to ask to go. If you really had to go....you just... -
ARCHIVED Glutened Her Again...

I agree. We stay clear of things with a ton of ingredients and/or chemicals. Simple is best and less worry. There are certified gluten-free corn chips that are yummy. -
Could be added Vitamin C that gives him D. That is common. Find a juice without vitamin C....might be hard. Could try powdered Kool Aid without the sugar and use Stevia drops to sweeten them.

ARCHIVED My First Time Of Here, Hi. I Have Celiac And Curious
ShayFL replied to dhorseygirls's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thrush is due to an overgrowth of the Candida Albicans yeast. It may or may not be related. But you need to treat it. You will need to eat a NO SUGAR diet for awhile. Sugar feeds them. No honey. Only a bit of fruit like berries that are low sugar till it is under control. No refined carbs like rice flour, etc. Simple foods: Meats, Eggs, Veggies, Low... -
I found this tonight will surfing around and thought it might help someone: You first have to determine what caused this problem. The Vagus nerve, according to doctors, is what causes the food to move through the intestines. This is a reaction diabetes can cause. The primary reason food does not move quickly is low HCL. When you have low HCL, the pyloric...
