  1. Im in the same boat with you right now trying dairy. So far so good. I hope it works that way for you as well. I am doing Keifer made with goat's milk.
  2. Quinoa makes delicious tabouleh. When I try grains again...if I do...I will make this again. It is really good.
  3. You do not have to be a slave to your doctor. You can find a new one. Or you can order your own thyroid tests. They arent very expensive. www.healthcheckusa.com usually has very good prices. You dont need a doctor to order the tests from them. Even if you have to sacrifice something you normally buy to afford the tests, it will be worth it. I got...
  4. Getting a dx of Celiac or not is up to you. You are right the cure is the same....a gluten-free diet. If you think you will "cheat" by not having a dx, then you should get tested for Celiac. But you would have to start eating gluten again and plenty of it for a few months before getting Celiac testing. You have to decide if you are willing to do that...
  5. Hypothyroid can be from birth. It would be worth checking out. At least you can eliminate it and look elsewhere if it is NEG.
  6. For 4 months the gluten-free diet made my cycle longer (34 days), but it is now back to my normal 30 days. No cramps since gluten-free until the one I am having right now. And yesterday and today extreme nausea. I have NEVER had nausea before with my period. So I looked online and it appears that nausea is a symptom of perimenopause. I am 39, so I guess...
  7. Awesome!! Awesome!! It gives me hope. I have not had a DEXA scan, but early last year at the dentist he said he saw bone loss of about 20% in my jaw. I am only 39, so this scared me. This was before going gluten-free. My teeth were a little loose in the lower front after I bit down on a fork accidentally. They werent tightening very well, but...
  8. Thank goodness they did Tim!!
  9. Here in Tampa we have a great local Celiac support group that meets every 2 months. Awesome people!!
  10. What a beautiful pup!! Makes me think of what our Lucy must have looked like then. We have a white standard female. She is a rescue. We got her from Circus people who had over 100 dogs with all of them in crates all day with only 2 potty breaks and no play time. It was pathetic. She is partially blind and mentally retarded. But we just love her!! ...
  11. Tracy...often "Silent Celiac" is dx as a result of the patient going in for something else (Diabetes type 1, lymphoma, etc.) As these diseases are very closely associated with Celiac, an astute Doctor will test for Celiac. This is how it is found. The patient might not have had ANY of the typical symptoms of Celiac....hence "silent"...but the disease manifests...
  12. Hi and Welcome! First, it could be detox, but for many Celiacs and gluten intolerants, cutting the gluten unmasks a dairy sensitivity. For some dairy can be added back in 2 or 3 months later with no problems. For some it takes longer. And for some they can never tolerate dairy again. For now, you might do well with cutting out ALL dairy including...
  13. Most of us went through "de-tox" from gluten which can include fatigue, headaches, more BM's, etc. This is normal. It will pass. It took me 6 weeks for all that gunk to stop completely. So hang in there. PLUS even one dose of "cheeze-its" can cause damage. So it could be the results of that as well.
  14. What am awesome post!! And brave for sharing like that. Me and my DH have to reevaluate our marriage about every 6 months. IT is me who says, things are going South. And it can happen so easily without you realizing it. I nip it before it ever actually gets bad. And this keeps it from ever getting bad. It refreshes us and we reignite the romance...
  15. Those medical interpretations sure sound like Celiac. When you go, ask for a copy of your lab work. Was it blood? If you are Celiac, then yes, damage can be happening in your intestines and elsewhere in your body even without symptoms if you are eating gluten. You MUST avoid it as much as possible shooting for 100% gluten-free.
  16. Ditto for me on the "caines". They dont work well on me either. Just discuss your concerns with your dentist/surgeon. Trust me....they dont want you wide awake and squirming.
  17. Check my profile and you can find a link to one of my online portfolios. I use acrylics. I paint abstracts. Forensic Psych. You are now the second person I have met with a Phd in that. Cool!! There are so many things that can lead to poor health. We can only do the best we can and enjoy our time here without living in constant fear of everything...
  18. It is tricky with food. ALL of the ingredients may "look" fine, but maybe it was processed on equipment that also makes cookie dough frozen yogurt and you got "cross contamination" or CC as we call it in here. Many of us find we have to email or call companies to confirm gluten-free status. Unless the product specifically says gluten-free....you should...
  19. Sometimes you REALLY have to reevaluate your lives and make changes if you want your relationship to last. You have to sit down together and make a list of what is most important in your life. IF it goes something like this: 1. Our marriage 2. Our family & Friends 3. Our jobs 4. Etc. This is how it should be. But if you currently...
  20. Welcome. No, glucose tests and thyroid test will not dx Celiac in anyway. You can have blood sugar problems and thyroid problems AND be Celiac. But the only way to get dx Celiac is to get a Celiac Blood test performed first. Then a biopsy if necessary. You should make that appt. and get tested.
  21. Excellent Ali!! Yes, lack of fatty acids can def. age your skin. The trick is the ability to utilize them. Consider an enzyme supplement with lipase when you take the oils.
  22. If your DH is the lesser of the stressed, perhaps he can help you out a bit.....the foot massage thing can do wonders. One thing DH and I have done is to have "date day". Now our schedules are flexible (I work from home) and he is a college Prof. and can move his time around. So once a week we have "date day". It starts the minute we drop our daughter...
  23. Fresh coconut milk is the bomb.
  24. "Moderate Carbs" depends on what works for you. I generally eat no more than 25 - 30 carbs per meal/snack and this keeps me very stable blood sugar wise. If they are the "right" carbs of course. No grains or sugar. In the past when I was young I could tolerate 3 times that amount in one sitting. Not anymore!!!
