ARCHIVED Publix gluten-free Brochure
cmom posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Recently my DIL's grandmother gave her a Publix gluten-free brochure which is available in their stores. On the page titled "The Gluten Sensitivity Spectrum" , it states under Symptoms of Intolerance "And the good news is, eating gluten, while causing discomfort, will not usually cause damage to your body if you have just an intolerance". People are... -
Yes, I found out the hard way that they fry their corn chips in the same fryer as battered items. Also those who serve fried corn, fried anything...same fryer. That could be it!!!!
-
And just a reminder that if you do decide on the EGD/biopsy, you must continue eating gluten until then.

I eat Amy's gluten-free pizza and add my own toppings: onion, peppers, pepperoni. Mix and match with whatever you like. It turns out pretty tasty!!!

ARCHIVED Anxiety And Panic, When Does It Subside?
cmom replied to Blondie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I, too, suffered from severe anxiety related to not getting to the bathroom in time. For example, back before I knew just eating the topping off a pizza is a no-no, I would panic b/c there was only one restroom in the pizza place, as opposed to a place that had more than one stall. Hence, if it was taken, I could get in bad shape. I can now be more calm... -
ARCHIVED Any "lost"-aholics Out There?
cmom replied to TriticusToxicum's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I also read that there is a definite ending planned by the writers. I am curious as to why Ben is off the island after trying to protect it and what hold he has over Sayid. He told Sayid he had to do what he said if he wanted to protect his friends from "them". Who is "them"? The people from the freighter? I am afraid this series is going to have a terrible... -
ARCHIVED Well, It's Official
cmom replied to Gluten=bad's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have to say I agree with your husband. Enjoy eating the foods you love for the weekend b/c you will need to be gluten free for the rest of your life. If you can deal with the consequences, go for it! -
ARCHIVED Syrup?
cmom replied to Avarismama's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I really love the Ian's gluten-free French Toast Sticks! They are very close to the real thing IMHO. I thought I could pop them in the microwave, but they need to be baked in the oven...but worth it!! (I dunk them in syrup!) -
ARCHIVED What Kind Of Celiac Episodes Do You Have?
cmom replied to little00blondie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I totally understand what you're going through and it definitely sounds like a celiac attack to me. I too suffered from those burps before diagnosis. I thought it smelled like very rotten eggs. Once I started in with those burps, I would tell my husband I was going to be up all night in the bathroom and I always was. After being gluten free for awhile... -
ARCHIVED Constantly Amazed!
cmom replied to silk's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Unfortunately, this celiac was not blessed with the long eyelashes! Can't really think of any perks I got from having celiac. Hmmm.... -
ARCHIVED Popcorn And Gluten?
cmom replied to MrMark's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Speaking of popcorn...tonight my husband and I bought the Whirly-Pop popper found at Bed, Bath & Beyond. We also bought the "Real Theater Popcorn" for it made by the same company. I read the ingredients: popcorn, coconut oil, salt, beta carotene, NATURAL and artificial butter flavor. Anyone know what the natural flavor is derived from? Thanks. -
Dear cmom, That is wonderful your parents try to help! If only more people were understanding! The protocol is exhaustive enough. We certainly do not need anything else complicating our lives. Speaking of, how is your son? Is he doing any better? Sincerely, Jin

Beware of Sami's. I read on another forum that their millet products were tested and shown to have something like 500 ppm gluten in them or maybe more. I'd check it out.

ARCHIVED Everyday Minerals - Great gluten-free Mineral Make-up!
cmom replied to Mango04's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My EM came yesterday! I got Fairly LIght foundation, All Smiles blush, and Cool Pink finishing powder. Didn't order any eye shadow b/c my husband has started questioning me about all the shadows I already have and how am I ever gonna use them up! Will let you know how I like it! -
Awesomely cool!!!! Thanks so much for going to the trouble to figure this out AND test the recipe. Truly appreciated, Lisa!

Jin, I am so sorry that your parents antagonize you this way. I am lucky to have understanding parents. Mom always tries to have several things I can eat when she prepares food. She doesn't totally understand all the cross contamination issues, but she tries. Your parents remind me of my "in-law" family. Lots of gluten filled dishes, continually ask...

I printed out this recipe and thought about trying it today, but I have no idea how to convert the measurements, nor do I know what "double cream" is. Drats!!!!

1. Doctor (1) orders barium enema at age 16. Shows nothing. No ideas as to how to feel better and not go to bathroom so much. 2. Doctor (2) orders barium enema, gallbladder ultrasound, sigmoidoscopy, and pap smear. No ideas as to what is wrong. 3. Doctor (3) says I am under stress and begins telling me about her own problems and how stress can make...

ARCHIVED Would You Be Among The First To Give It A Try?
cmom replied to Molecular Dude's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
NO, I have already been messed over for various ailments by the medical profession and I really don't trust them to take me seriously. In their defense, however, they did save my dad's life from a potentially fatal heart attack. But, so often, when I go to the doctor (which is rare), they have such a condescending tone it angers me. -
ARCHIVED Everyday Minerals - Great gluten-free Mineral Make-up!
cmom replied to Mango04's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You guys talked me into it!! I hate the way liquid foundation rubs off on everything and leaves the jawline mark. I have used Bare Minerals, Avon, and L'Oreal mineral makeup but wanted to give this a try. I am ordering foundation, powder, blush, and brush. Thanks for the tips! -
Here's another one for the list: The first time you had a "normal" bowel movement, you wanted to call everyone in to come look at it and throw a party!

ARCHIVED 'loving' Father, Grandfather?
cmom replied to Ursa Major's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I certainly feel your frustration, only mine is with my MIL. I have dealt with her negativity for 26 years now. We live within walking distance from her and when my boys were small, she would carry food over and if I was already feeding them, she would push my food away and tell them to eat hers b/c it was better. She would also tell them frequently that... -
I, too, gained 30 lbs after going gluten-free. As of yet, I have found nothing to help, not diet, exercise, etc. I just don't get it.
