ARCHIVED Any Celiacs Who Decided To Be Completely Grain-Free?
cassP replied to Evangeline's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
it is possible to have thyroid problems while still having normal numbers.. i think it's called "Euthyroid" maybe??? but it's not "textbook".. and it can be a battle to get your doctor to work with you. my best friend is dealing with this right now- horrible Hypo symptoms, but normal numbers. well not normal... her TSH is normal but her T3 & T4 are like... -
ARCHIVED Dh And Iodine And Thyroid Poll Curious
cassP replied to GFinDC's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
this is such a conundrum, yes :/ because iodine is so good & crucial for our whole body, not just our thyroid. i THINK too when your body coverts the T4 to T3, it knocks an iodine molecule off of it. and we have to convert. rose- have you ever had Grave's antibodies? are your numbers balanced?? cause i DO know that hives and rashes CAN be a symptom... -
ya, like 5 years ago i had a strange pain in my left foot.. well it wasnt strange- i assumed it was from standing too long or not wearing good enough shoes- but it felt like i had a ton of "stone bruises" on the bottom of my foot- like the bones were not padded. this was the same time where i was eating more wheat than normal and having malabsorption/fatty...

there is absolutely no good reason why shrimp cocktail should have any gluten!!! That being said- when i went to the ALE HOUSE and ordered steamed oysters off their gluten free menu- they said i could NOT have the cocktail sauce because it had gluten. Well that is just ridiculous! Cocktail sauce does not need gluten.

what kind of ridges?? i had Beau's lines on my thumbnails since i was 8 ( deep horizontal lines)- they had improved before when eating fairly paleo- so i assumed they were celiac related just like other nail, teeth, and skin problems. mine did not improve last year when i went gluten free. then i was diagnosed with thyroid disease- got on meds- and within... -
ARCHIVED Breathing Problem Possibly Related To Celiac?
cassP replied to Derezzed's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
ya- i should also tell u guys that my first panic attacks with S.O.B. happened in my teens- and BOTH incidences were at restaurants. my present theory is that the gluten i was consuming was possibly setting off my thyroid- my mom has also noticed when she eats gluten she cant breathe. (she also has Hashimoto's... and a DQ8, but no dx celiac or gluten intolerance... -
ARCHIVED Dh And Iodine And Thyroid Poll Curious
cassP replied to GFinDC's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
honestly: except for the 3 or 4 strange incidences with my forearms that lasted a day or 2 each- i felt the same on Synthroid+Cytomel as i do on Armour. seriously. actually- we only switched to Armour for the cost- because my Synthroid & Cytomel was costing me 90$ a month. i really dont know if the Armour is healthier cause it's natural- but i DO... -

maybe it's only UNdiagnosed & Untreated Hashi that slows sore healing???? all i know is that i had "Beau's lines" on my thumbnails since i was 8 years old!! i thought for sure it was Celiac related- because Celiac can lead to skin issues, teeth & nail deformations. the horizontal ridges did improve from time to time when i was paleo... but after one... -
oh God the list is too extensive... but lemme just tell u that i must have overdone the fructans tonight i picked up Chipotle tonight- and if i just eat half, and put the rest in fridge for later- im fine- but i ate almost my whole bowl tonight- and no- i MUST remember that i cannot eat that amount of lettuce & onions & peppers in one sitting ...

ARCHIVED Breathing Problem Possibly Related To Celiac?
cassP replied to Derezzed's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
i have had breathing problems (shortness of breath & panic attacks) off and on since i was 15. it got better when i went on Paleo diets the last decade. i completely relate to your description of the stomach feeling like it's pressing up into the lungs or diaphraghm. i TOO was tested for lung problems- had xrays & breathing tests- everything was normal... -

ARCHIVED Dh And Iodine And Thyroid Poll Curious
cassP replied to GFinDC's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
it is so complex- it really is- i dont even think our Endocrinologists completely understand it all. when i first got on meds- my PCP put me on Synthroid only. (neither of us knew that i also had Grave's antibodies)- tho shouldnt our docs be testing for everything before prescribing- OY DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON OUR MEDICAL SYSTEM. anyways- i got... -
well, i dont know your situation, and everyone is different- but i have issues with too much fructose and fructans. for me, personally i will have different bathroom experiences with different kinds of produce. if i eat fruits & veggies high in fructose/fructans (google FODmap diet or Fructose Malabsorption)- than i sometimes get the "D". ALTHO- some...

ARCHIVED Dh And Iodine And Thyroid Poll Curious
cassP replied to GFinDC's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
the iodine is only a concern for those who have DH. because sometimes those blisters are aggravated by iodine. then there is a lot of debate amongst the thyroid community about additional iodine supplements- some say they help the thyroid, others say they make Hashimoto's or Grave's worse. so i dont know what the verdict is. im still trying to figure... -
ARCHIVED Dh And Iodine And Thyroid Poll Curious
cassP replied to GFinDC's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
ya, probably. i did read from that Mary Shomon/thyroid advocate- that PO can aggravate any of the antibodies, and that people who were taking it if they didnt need to may end up in the er. but yes to your other questions- iodine is so good for the whole body- and i would really LOVE to lower my antibodies and cure myself- because i also have really stubborn... -
yes- one communion host is enough to aggravate those DH bumps & blisters. are you a Celiac? do u have DH? if yes, then you should never have a gluten communion host. and also- Hashimoto's is very very common in those with Celiac.

cassP replied to nuttmegs17's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
oh- it wasnt really my idea- before, i was on 2 Armour pills in the am only. then after my last panel- my doc told me to make it 2 1/2 pills a day. i tried to take the 2 1/2 in the am only- but the crash in the afternoon was too much, thats why i take the 1/2 pill in the afternoon. i split it up unevenly- because i need those 2 in the morning to function... -

cassP replied to nuttmegs17's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
i take 2 Armour pills (30mg each)/total- 60mg 1 hour before i get up and have coffee and breakfast. then, depending on my schedule: i either take my afternoon dose (1/2 a pill= 15mg) 3 hours after my breakfast and 1 hour before lunch OR i count 6 hours from my 1st dose- and time my eating & 2nd dose before the 6 hours run out. i also eat my... -

ARCHIVED Dh And Iodine And Thyroid Poll Curious

not sure how to answer the poll.. i have had DH in the past, i have Hypo & Hyperthyroid. i take Armour. i usually only use sea salt or kosher salt. i still eat plenty of seafood. and some of the vitamins & supplements i take have kelp/fucus bladderwrack in it. im not sure if i should be avoiding the kelp... it is a hot debate in the thyroid... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Been Successful At Reintroducing Nightshades
cassP replied to cahill's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
i said i assume i dont have a "nightshade problem", cause im okay with tomatoes. potatoes make my joints hurt, tomatoes dont. potatoes & peppers give me painful gas cause i have a fructose malabsorption issue too. tomatoes will only give me fructose gas pain if i eat a crapload. and i never eat eggplant, dont like it. -

if your Iga Serum was only 44- then u are Iga Deficient- which means any of your antibody tests that test Iga will be INNACCURATE! only your Igg tests could be looked at to show anything. Iga deficiency is also common in those with Celiac. -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Been Successful At Reintroducing Nightshades
cassP replied to cahill's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
i assume i dont have a nightshade problem. i totally avoid Potatoes- as they give me gas & hurt my joints. i only eat a little peppers (both the potatoes & peppers have a lot of fructose/fructans- gives me painful bloating). tomatoes work for me in moderation. its funny- ive been wanting to tell all of you guys- i watched a show on NatGeo...
