ARCHIVED Celiac, Cleaning, And Dust
dilettantesteph replied to fakename's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
ppm is a concentration, not a particle size. Parts per million. Plus, it is parts per million of gluten that makes celiacs sick, not parts of dust particles. We have dust allergies in our family. It is important to clean regularly and frequently so that dust doesn't build up. Also, as the last poster said, there is unlikely to be gluten in... -
ARCHIVED More Headaches, Not Less.
dilettantesteph replied to lucky97's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would try eliminating the chocolate to see if the headaches go away. Maybe a different brand would work better. Have you checked to see if it is made in a gluten-free facility? -
ARCHIVED Why Can't My Body Handle Long Runs?
dilettantesteph replied to Kat Kuz's topic in Sports and Fitness
Not really. I avoid thing which might have cross contamination. I also keep a food journal to help identify such items. I keep track of what I eat and when I get symptoms and do a lot of challenge/elimination diets. Things bother me which I wouldn't expect. Sometimes I can eat something from one source and not another. It takes a lot of trial and error... -
ARCHIVED Glutened At School
dilettantesteph replied to dilettantesteph's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thank you for your replies. In their high school, they have homeroom and 8 periods. They change rooms and teachers for each class. Some classes last for two periods, but many are for one. They can be in up to 9 classrooms in a day. The time between classes is short and there is no time for teachers to wipe desks. There are also many students that might... -
ARCHIVED Height Gain Seems To Have Slowed Down
dilettantesteph replied to Nannu's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son was diagnosed at age 10 and is now 14. We have gone through periods in which he seemed to get more sensitive and got sick again and we had to make modifications to his diet for him to be symptom free again. These periods are evident on his growth chart. He goes off the line and then back on it again. His doctor was amazed by it enough to point... -
ARCHIVED Et Tu, Chocolat
dilettantesteph replied to sreese68's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I found one chocolate that I could tolerate, but it isn't available anymore. That was the hardest thing for me to give up. -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Make Yogurt?
dilettantesteph replied to GFreeMO's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I make it every three days. There are lots of different ways to make it that you can find with a google search. I use a crockpot and a plug in cooler. I found a thermometer essential. -
ARCHIVED Glutened At School
dilettantesteph posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have two kids in high school who are sensitive to tiny amounts of gluten. Many kids have very full schedules so they are allowed to eat their lunches in the classroom. My kids try to make sure that their desks are free from crumbs before they sit down, but they can never be sure that their spaces are clean. They know to wash hands and not bite fingernails... -
ARCHIVED Still So Fatigued...
dilettantesteph replied to thleensd's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For me, chronic fatigue is one of my glutening symptoms. I eat unprocessed foods almost exclusively, and I'm even careful about them. As time goes on I need to be more and more careful or symptoms come back. I keep a food/symptoms journal and try to only change one thing per week so that I can track the origin of my symptoms. If I am experiencing symptoms... -
ARCHIVED Why Can't My Body Handle Long Runs?
dilettantesteph replied to Kat Kuz's topic in Sports and Fitness
I trained for a mini triathlon which I did summer before last. My daughter is a distance runner and does weekly long runs of about 2.5 hours. We both find that we need to have a really clean diet with that much exertion. Do you eat a lot of processed foods? -
ARCHIVED Nowhere Left To Go But Insane
dilettantesteph replied to GlutenFreeRampage's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm thinking that was a rant and you aren't usually this extreme. I can relate, especially to the above part. I hope things get better for you. Take it one day at a time. -
ARCHIVED Question For The Ladies
dilettantesteph replied to GFreeMO's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My periods and PMS symptoms are worse when glutened. From not noticeable to quite bad. -
ARCHIVED Supervisor Problem

Maybe you should be unable to go at the last minute due to illness or family emergency. -
ARCHIVED New Allergy Or Intolerance?
dilettantesteph replied to stef-the-kicking-cuty's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I'd get rid of that stuff you got addicted to. That was when you noticed a change. I think that you know it yourself, you just don't want to admit it. It may take a week or two to notice a difference. Hopefully you will. -
I suggest cutting sugar. Since I did that, I have lost all my fat.

The source Dr. David Clark is a chiropractor. He calls himself a chiropractic neurologist. That is very different from a M.D. neurologist.

ARCHIVED Feeling Bad
dilettantesteph replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You might also want to examine your diet and think about if you have added anything new to your diet lately that you could try removing. -
ARCHIVED Any Connection To Celiac And Urinary Urgency?
dilettantesteph replied to concernedmamma's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It still happens to me when I get accidental gluten contamination. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Roommate In Montreal
dilettantesteph posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My daughter will be starting University in Montreal in fall 2012. She is looking for gluten free household roommates. This could either be someone to look for a place with, or someone with a room to rent. She is studious and quiet. She is interested in the McGill area. Anyone out there? -
ARCHIVED Teeth Cleaning At Dentist's
dilettantesteph replied to lovetapioca's topic in Super Sensitive People
I tell you. I have got to hope that there isn't any 5 year old gluten still sticking to my teeth!!!! -
I started off so sensitive that we needed a gluten free household and it has gotten even worse since. I totally understand not wanting to make your whole family go gluten free for you. Is there another spot in the house with sink access? You could make your own kitchen with a toaster over, microwave and dorm fridge. Might be worth a try. I agree it is...

ARCHIVED Teeth Cleaning At Dentist's
dilettantesteph replied to lovetapioca's topic in Super Sensitive People
I am extremely sensitive and have had problems the last three times I went. My hygenist is very sympathetic and careful. The first time I noticed a reaction it was a bad one. Before the next cleaning I called the office and she researched it carefully. The second time she only used water and unpowdered gloves and I still had a minor reaction. It was... -
I avoid almost all processed foods. I tried several oils until I found one brand of olive oil which I can tolerate. It sounds like you have one of those already. Good luck finding another one, and please message me about it if you do.

ARCHIVED Celiac, Fibromyalgia & Very Limited Food Tolerance
dilettantesteph replied to cindy.k's topic in Super Sensitive People
Sad to say, I got better when I stopped all supplements. I added some back slowly and carefully, but I had a hard time finding ones that I could tolerate. Good luck.
