  1. I came to the GI already gluten free. I had been so sick before that they considered me diagnosed by response to diet. They even recommended against a gluten challenge followed by further testing. "Do no harm" - I think that some doctors may have forgotten their Hippocratic Oath.
  2. It is hard when we have to be paranoid about everything. I tell you that I am very sensitive and I am still not all the way recovered more than a week later from kissing my daughter on the lips about an hour after she had a gluten filled meal and had forgotten to brush. I have been steadily improving. It could be the kiss, but I don't doubt that it could...
  3. When I was first diagnosed, I felt so much better just eliminating bread and cheerios. Then I got more sensitive and had to eliminate more and more. These days I feel great and did a mini triathlon recently. I have to be extremely careful about my diet though. I don't eat any gluten free processed grains. I sort and wash whole grains and things like...
  4. I have found stuff that looks like wheat in my beans. Now I sort and wash.
  5. I think you are pretty new to this still. I remind myself all the time that it could be worse.
  6. I can only eat quinoa if I triple wash it with soap. Maybe try wild Alaska salmon instead of the tuna. We do well with Driscoll's organic berries. Could the sunflower seeds be cross contaminated? I think that they can be grown on rotation with wheat. We do nuts that we shell ourselves. Could you be missing something else? Kissing a gluten eater?...
  7. Can the area be sprayed with water as you go along to keep the dust out of the air? Good luck. We are doing our own renovations.
  8. I seem to have gotten much more sensitive to trace gluten. On the positive side, I get over glutenings, even those with severe symptoms, much faster than before. It's been 3 years now.
  9. It is great to recognize those more subtle symptoms. That will prevent you from long term low level gluten ingestion which has led to total return of symptoms for me. Then it was really hard to figure out what it was.
  10. I don't know if this applies to you or not. At first I was fine with normal gluten free food. Then even the small amount allowed in it started to bother me. Maybe that is what happened to you. I do well with whole foods. Good luck to you. I hope you figure things out.
  11. I was wondering about a store sample once. It was yogurt on which they put granola. The yogurt was gluten-free, but the granola wasn't. The guy said that it couldn't contain gluten because it was organic. Then I pointed out the wheat on the label. Then he told me that the gluten wouldn't harm me because it hadn't developed. Why would someone say something...
  12. I got better at first by just eliminating cheerios and bread. Then I started having symptoms again. I kept eliminating things, getting better, then getting sick again. I learned about a lot of things here. I learned about cross contamination from shared facilities. I learned about cross contamination from shared households. I learned about the problems...
  13. I have a 13 year old son who is very sensitive to trace gluten. I wonder how he is going to cope with dating. I hope that you continue to post about these issues so that he can learn from your example.
  14. I think that it depends on how sensitive you are. I have to watch out for which wines I drink. I am very sensitive.
  15. I have had the same problem with my husband. He is not very understanding whenever he goes to kiss me and I question him about whether he has brushed since his last gluten. I know it isn't very romantic, but who wants to be glutened? I still don't think that he appreciates how lousy it makes me feel. I still think that the woman for you will be understanding...
  16. Some of us can be sensitive to the 20 ppm allowed in gluten free foods. I seem to be. A lot of gluten free foods are a lot lower, but some of them are very near that level. It could be that you are like that and this one food was more near the upper limit of allowed gluten.
  17. I get extremely grumpy and I get uncontrollable diarrhea. Last time I couldn't get to the toilet and went all over the bedroom and bathroom floor. At least I managed to get out of the bed. I get all sorts of other miscellaneous symptoms, but those are the worst.
  18. I don't know about your dishwasher, but mine often leaves little bits of food behind. The ones that I see I can take care of. What about the ones that are too small to see? Maybe that's why I kept having symptoms until our whole household went gluten free. I don't eat in restaurants. I got tired of getting sick from it.
  19. I am very sensitive so I just use fresh spices.
  20. At least he isn't nagging you about how messy the house is and how you should clean it up more. That was our house.
  21. I am very sensitive to trace gluten. We have a gluten free household. Yesterday I kissed my daughter after she had come home from eating out (gluten) with friends. She hadn't brushed her teeth first. Boy and I paying the price today. I'm worse glutened than I've been in months or even more than a year. I'm guessing that the kissing that you have in...
  22. It was hard enough with my spouse. I can't imagine dealing with it in a dating situation. Good luck. If she is worth it, she will understand and respect your needs.
  23. In our household my son and I have celiac and my daughter and husband don't. For the first year we tried every precaution to avoid cross contamination to have a mixed household. My son and I kept getting glutened. Finally my husband and daughter went gluten free in the house. They are still free to eat gluten at school and work or at restaurants. Then...
  24. I also experienced neuro issues. Fatique, joint pain, muscle weakness, numbness, couldn't think straight, couldn't remember anything, plus half crazy, irritable, blurred vision, my eyesight went from 20/40 to 20/20. I also had GI symptoms. The neuro symptoms took longer to go away than the GI ones. Maybe a couple of months. Hope you'll be feeling much...
  25. My celiac sister and I both sleepwalked in our early teens. She once ended up at the neighbors front door and they took her back still asleep. Once she got up and drew on her head with green felt pen so that she would be sure to wash her hair. Then in the morning she thought she had some serious medical condition to give her the green spots because she...
