Cheetos has MSG in them...I stay CLEAR of MSG. Basically I've gathered that msg is a neurotransmitter that makes you think what you're eating tastes good, lol. Also, reading up on some of this garbage I read about poor lab rats. Some freakazoid-animal-testing-nutso was injecting dosages of MSG that was 4x the weight of the newborn rat, inducing... -
ARCHIVED How To Make The Stomach Ache Go Away?...
Swimmr replied to mariannej's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm still learning and currently doing an elimination diet, but chamomile tea helps with tummy problems of any kind. It's also pretty tasty. Try to get ahold of loose leaf though, it's more pure. I'm big on teas Oh and drink plenty of water. Magnesium Citrate is something I took to help with constipation. I think I have read a few on here say magnesium... -
ARCHIVED Dietician Said Not To Go Gluten Free If Negative Results
Swimmr replied to Harley0000's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think it's ignorant for her to assume. What makes me tick is when they throw out info and advice on something they know little about. There aren't many doc's who will allow a patient to do their own diagnosing and "fixing of the problem" except diabetes (and the like) because the doc can't watch over a person's shoulder. However with anything a doc... -
ARCHIVED How To Eat gluten-free At A Japanese Restaurant?
Swimmr replied to Kelynn's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
well...tell the cook no soy sauce or teriyaki sauce on your food...ask for plain fried rice and bring your own sauce to put on it. I've ordered plain fried rice...he gladly kept it separate from the rest. Speak the word allergy and everyone seems to understand. Weird. however cross-contamination might be an issue. I love sushi, so that's always my alternative... -
ARCHIVED Lactose Intolerance ... Does It Reverse?
Swimmr replied to shirleyujest's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm not an expert, but maybe the gluten damaged your intestines, therefore making them unable to adequately process the lactose... I have read that many after going gluten free still have damaged villi and still won't beable to process some things for a long time or ever again. -
Sorry you have little support...it's terribly hard living with someone who either doesn't respect your choice of diet whether it be intolerance or just to eliminate gluten, or doesn't care. Lack of education on the subject, I regret to say, leads people to willingly be ignorant on the subject. Ignore and deny is all they do. Good luck, and how bout...

Ummm I guess it depends on the individual...I won't say it works for everyone, but knowing from personal experience and being a former personal trainer and bodybuilder that it's proven that more than three meals a day is better for a person's over-all health. I don't have a nutrition degree, but aside the Celiac stuff (because I'm still learning), I would...

Nicely stated. It all depends on will-power (for ANYthing, really). Before I realized I had a gluten/wheat issue, I once forced myself to cut down on the amount of carbs I was taking in...breads and pastas. It was a rough time with cravings. Now once I went gluten/wheat free, the things I had issues with and could not say no to were pizza,...

I have always not liked my forehead... hubby says it's beautiful, so I don't know...he's blinded by love I guess! So far it's 75% true that celiacs have high foreheads...however I feel it's more of a coincidence...

ARCHIVED Pamelas Free Cookies
Swimmr replied to rmducote's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
cool! thanks! -
Yeah I would be scared of cross-contamination issues if ANY conventional pizza joint starting carrying gluten-free pizza. My mother makes a bangin' homemade pizza...maybe she can take orders online!

DAY FOUR UPDATE It was definitely the nuts that I ate on Wednesday that gave me gas and bad bowel movements. I know this because of clues that I won't discuss, ewwww. And it's been a long time since I've eating nuts of any kind...also I ate quite a few...borderline too many. I think my dizziness was from just not drinking enough water yesterday. My...

ARCHIVED Need Advice From Experienced Bread Bakers.
Swimmr replied to Imanistj's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
The boxed brand Schar...is german. It's the best tasting to me. Pamela's never worked...it didn't rise AT all while I followed every instruction to a T. Schar brand is the EASIEST by far and comes with self rising yeast. Basically all you do is mix up all the ingredients, pour in bread pan(s) and let it sit in a warm place with a damp cloth over it for... -
Sorry this all boils down to bowel movements But what goes in directly affects what comes out...lol. Had another one after work and STILL sure it's the almonds/pecans. I have gas too Had baked chicken tonight and carrots simmered in the broth I made from the whole chicken the other night. Adding eggs tomorrow!

Around lunch time today I started getting very dizzy...kinda. Feels like I'm moving, but I'm not. Went away...just came back about 15 minutes ago. I've not has as much water as usual...but I have had 3 20 oz bottles of water. DEFINITELY no more nuts for me for a while.

ARCHIVED The Bad News Keeps Rolling In.
Swimmr replied to Brooklyn528's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Very sorry you're going through this! -
Between each full meal (typically three a day) eat something small...yogurt or nuts...beans...fruit. Whatever you can tolerate, of course. Not only will this keep your hunger down, but it also keeps your metabolism up. Which really helps when weight loss is desired Smaller portions, more often I was eating 8 meals a day at one point. I was heavy into...

I've been gluten free for about two years...minus the accidentals and then the ones where I took "just a taste." How ever the "just a tastes" have been non-existent for over 5 months...completely strict within my means. Accidentals of course have happened. I've never considered my sugar intake very high anyways...except with all the gluten free baked...

ARCHIVED Diamond Walnuts...i Feel So Stupid!
Swimmr replied to homemaker's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If I buy a canister of cashews...I snack and snack...and snack...annnnd snack some more. Then I'm paying for it later. I can never eat nuts in moderation. -
Betty Crocker made me happy since they came out with the gluten free stuff. My local Food Lion FINALLY has chocolae chip cookies, brownies, yellow cake mix and chocolate cake mix. HOWEVER to make a two-layer cake, which is a must...two boxes is needed. For that price I can buy one bag of Namaste cake mix and still save a few cents. Still more convenient...
