  1. My husband and oldest son got hooked on the show along with me - all while looking for the celiac disease episode! We never miss it and if my son is at his dad's house, we tape it for him.
  2. I have been using Halls cough drops and double checked and they contain Soy Lectin so those went to the hubby, no wonder I was sick for days...I use honey for a sore throat, never a cough. I will try next time...thanks.
  3. Our holiday dinner party, I asked the bosses wife, how she prepared the food and what she added to each item--I appologiezed for having to ask but thanked her very much for her answers. Other times, I can tell right away and snack on my own food that I brought. Sometimes, I know up front there will be no food and I bring my own and re-heat it there and then...
  4. I had similar problems with bananas, apparently I wasn't buying them green enough. Right now, my D is so bad and the only thing different I have eaten in the last couple of days is my cough drops and some honey for my tea neither of which has bothered me before. I felt better going gluten-free (about 1 1/2 years ago) for a few months, then I got worse...
  5. Thanks!!! Very cool. I may start mine indoors then finish outside--my husband is very dilligent about keeping my plants watered.
  6. I make my own vanilla too but with potato vodka. I never thought of growing my own vanilla!!! Please give directions/instructions on what they like/don't like (besides living in your desert)...thanks!!!!!
  7. West Soy is gluten-free.
  8. When I cook gluten food like pizza for the kids and hubby in the oven, I cook mine first then theirs then I leave the oven door open to air out. Never have problems with crumbs in there either. Most of our foods are gluten-free/DF except for the bread for lunches. Now, everyone puts their bread on a plate or plastic cutting board rather than the counter...
  9. Ooops - you are right about the liquid in my loaf bread, it is pretty moist. I was thinking about my pizza dough which is dry.
  10. I remember my pre-gluten free baking bread - if it was too moist, it would fall in the center. I know my glutne free breads feel very dry when I mix it up but I use the candidia mix so no yeast and so it rises while cooking, not before.
  11. These are just the Autoimmune that I know of: Maternal Grandmother - Rhumatoid Arthritis, food intolerances (from discussing with family) Maternal Aunt - Celiac disease, Lupus, Nurothopy, Rhumatoid Arthritis, sarcoidosis (sp) Maternal Cousin - MS, Lupus Mother - food intolerances, will not investigate, nuropothy, sarcoidosis (sp), allergies, Mortons...
  12. I know what you mean - at first it can be so upsetting but after a while, you do adjust. After the first few attempts with beans, I gave up trying any others. I won't even add any to chili for the rest of the household because I don't want to take that chance - all the ones I have tried so far bother me so I gave up on the rest. I can eat hazlenuts which...
  13. Bette Hagman's "Gluten Free Gormet" has a GREAT egg noodle for soups. Visitors don't even realize they are gluten-free, CF, etc. Page 93 I think and they aren't difficult to make. My family begs for chicken soup with my homemade noodles every week...the only way to get out of it is to make them some of my chili instead but that doesn't always work...they...
  14. Your pharmacist (sp?) should be able to give you a company number to call to check or look them up online. I found most of my drug info online. Mine were OK and I wouldn't skip a day of mine but you will need to check with the company.
  15. I went to mcdonlds.com and found one in Gatlinburg at: 745 PARKWAY GATLINBURG, TN 37738 Sorry I don't remember too much about the acutal town.
  16. We camped and hiked and ate our food almost exclusively. However, we spent one day shopping in Gatlinburg and ate at Texas Roadhouse for lunch. With all my problems, I didn't even try anything else but a few did look promising.
  17. Ditto - I called my dentist and they have other celiac patients and one of the cleaning gals' daughter has celiac so some of the people in the office were very aware, but not all. They also confirmed my other intolerances.
  18. Lays Natural Thick Cut Sea Salt chips are the only ones I consistantly do NOT have problems with...even their natural ruffles bother me but boy, do I eat those Natural Sea Salt ones!!!!
  19. Do a quick search on this message board - I remember seeing quite a few VERY positive posts about eating gluten-free at Disney World.
  20. Watch out for mayo - most of them use soybean oil so if she can handle it in small amounts she might be OK, otherwise, check for one in a health food store/area that is made with canola oil. It might be worth a trip every few months to stock up on stuff she can eat rather than ordering or trying to find it locally if you are in that small of a town. I just...
  21. I called our local Friday's, which is new, and they said they would try but once I got there and spoke with the mananger in person, it was horrible. When I called Chilis and they said OK, then I went in and talked to the manager and the cook for confirmation, I had no problems. Now I go there regularly without worrying - as long as it is not a busy time...
  22. Read my signature - I eat meat and veggies at every meal and potatoes or rice for 2 of the 3 meals and sometimes snacks: Almost all intolerances below give me gastronomical (sp???) problems but yeast knocks me out for a few hours and makes me fuzzy headed for a few days. Also, almost all my arthritis-like pain has disapeared but I don't know which food...
  23. I don't know about strickly gluten free since I have so many problems but, locally, I have better luck at Chilis. I tried TGI's once and won't go back, but again, I have so many problems that I am very difficult to feed in public. However, Chilis always works fine and always works with me.
  24. I use Dr. Bhandari with IMA in Bloomington. Him and my son's pediatrition seem knowledgeable about celiac disease. However, I did not take my son in for a biopsy - his blood test was negative and we just watch the food he eats. He can still eat gluten. So, I don't know that he would be considered a pediatric GI doc. Open Original Shared Link The celiac...
  25. I discovered that I have serious problems with sesame seeds from a gluten-free bar I ate. It took me a few weeks to determine that was the problem because I would sometimes eat only a little bit of the bar and I wouldn't get too sick and my husband said he was using "questionable vegetables" in my morning eggs which he threw out, conveniently when I ran out...
