  1. Didn't realize until after being wheat free, how much I slept--for hours at a time throughout the day and couldn't even begin to concentrate enough to read a book. And I'm with you about family. I just got off the phone from telling my mother how I think a local restaurant must be picking out the croutons because I only get sick when I get the salads...
  2. Has anyone tried these in the past year or so. I've read old posts that say that they're okay, but nothing recent. Anybody out there willing to be a guinea pig? Or already was one?
  3. Noticed that this year the Easter egg Reese's did not list any gluten. So, we bought a few, but now that I think about it,the peeps in this house that ate them have been complaining of stomach pains. Never associated with the pb cups. Will definitely not try again.
  4. The manager of the natural section really had me thinking today. He said, "Rice is one of the most plentiful grains out there, so why are gluten-free items so expensive? Are they just making a buck off of people like you?" With more and more of us eating gluten-free, he really does have a valid point. You can say it's due to dedicated facilities or product...
  5. Love, love this bread. Even better than homemade. It looks and tastes so much like Wonderbread that I was worried this morning that I'd be getting a call from the school complaining that I gave my son wheat!
  6. We've all been told to read the labels even on products that you have previously bought that were gluten free because they could've changed formulas. Well, didn't follow that advice and bam--ate a Nature Valley nut bar that was previously okay, but now is not. I normally don't eat them, but somebody left a half eaten one by the stove. So, after it...
  7. For those of you who did go, was it worth adding the dining plan considering the gluten-free issue? What kind of gluten-free appetizer or desserts do they have? 7 nights of sorbet and ice cream and a brownie would be over kill. Would it just be better off to pay as we go?
  8. We are somewhat thinking of staying at animal kingdom because the price to add on club level still makes it cheaper than our other 2 choices Contemporary and Poly. Talked to Disney and they said that there would be gluten-free choices available and to mark the dining form that we would have club level so that there would be choices available. But I...
  9. Hi, We decided we wanted to do Disney this year also. Theresa.Joiner@disney.com is the person to contact regarding special dietary needs. I got her name off of the celiac travel site and she has been very helpful with the correct forms and places to eat. We're thinking of Aug 14-21 or July 23-30. Maybe see you there
  10. Ditto. The new book is out and on sale with the dining cards. Used this book on road trip to Orlando and found a great Mexican place outside of Charlotte, NC. Gives you a good basis of the restaurants out there.
  11. I'm a 40 something mom with a cosmetic obsessed teen always on the lookout for great cosmetics. (I'm even a cosmetic rep). I just noticed on the Tarte cosmetic site that it lists their gluten free make up items. How fantastic is that? No need to go blind reading the label or contacting the company. These cosmetics are a great paraben...
  12. I was under the same impression. Last year we got a BWB gift card that we gave to the inlaws 'cause we were too afraid to use it. Maybe we should look into it again--my DS14's favorite food is wings.
  13. Have you tried follow your heart cheese--tastes pretty close to the real thing, but no casein or lactose at all
  14. No food disasters, but only at my inlaws long enough to drop off fundraisers--long enough for my sister-in-laws and their adults daughters to have me screaming at my DH for the rest of the weekend and me vowing to not be around them at all over Christmas.... Aargh!!!
  15. For my five dozen cookies that I had to take (and I was the one organizing the event!) I just made fudge that everyone enjoyed. And I got to keep the tasty treats at home for me and my family. I'm the type of baker that likes to lick the beaters and I knew the only way to be safe was to use gluten-free flour and I wasn't willing to go to that expense...
  16. You had me worried so I am posting the nutrition from the McDonald's website. I will still be eating the Angus and no wonder I didn't get sick. Angus Deluxe 100% Angus Beef Patty 100% Angus beef. Prepared with Grill Seasoning (salt, black pepper) and Angus Burger Seasoning: Salt, sugar, onion powder, natural (botanical source) and artificial flavors...
  17. Maybe we've been lucky. That's the only burger that we buy at McD's and we haven't had a problem at all. So, I guess we'll just switch to the quarter pounder--tastes the same anyhow.
  18. When I first started, I wore the pages out looking at the Triumphs Guide to Grocery Shopping and I googled products extensively. Now, over a year later, life is so much easier and it's just second nature for me. I gave my guide to a neighbor's mom who needed within about 6 months, 'cause I realized that I no longer needed it. Good luck and know that...
  19. We try to limit the sulphites and nitrates buy buying Hormel Naturals and Applegate Farms products.
  20. One more yippee for Better Batter: Ordered yesterday around 3 pm and when I got home at 11:30 this morning my order was waiting for me on my porch. Wow--that's quick service. And the bread that I've made using BB has everyone loving it--no weird texture or taste. I know that if you've seen some of my old posts that it looks like I say that about every...
  21. you know for the past several months, every time I'd see one of these posts about Chex, I thought, "jeesh...not again...those guys are nuts..." Sorry My DH has been eating the honey rice chex for months and I just realized he has been an A** for months. He has been screaming and yelling for months about EVERYTHING and we just thought he was overworked...
  22. I cheated--I gave some of my old Domata to my mother and she made a pumpking roll for my son. It's a cup for cup exchange--she let my older, picky, sister try and they couldn't tell the difference. My latest cup for cup flour that I keep on hand is Better Batter. Made bread the other day with it that gave me the Wonderbread taste that I've missed...
  23. I've just made pumpkin pie, rolls, and noodles using Better Batter and Betty Crocker's 40th anniversary cookbook (basically recipes like your grandmother used). And they taste just as good as grandma's--no taste differnce at all.
  24. Without going into detail about my DS14 and my son's journey, we both started the diet last October. Because I'm not a restaurant, I decided that what I was cooking was good enough for the two of us, was good for everyone. My DD16 had been eating this same diet for 6 weeks, when she had a Christmas concert. I dropped her off at 7 am and then didn't...
