  1. While my antibodies are no longer elevated, I have not had any improvement in my thyroid function. I was diagnosed with hashi's in 2000(was hypo in 1999 but wasn't put on meds/tested for hashi till 2000) and wan't diagnosed with celiac until fall 2008. Too many years went by and 5 pregnancies(I had 3 miscarriages and have 2 sons) that only made it worse...
  2. I made a half of recipe today. They look nice and have a decent taste, but I don't like the texture. Maybe the hub will care for them more.
  3. Your welcome and that sounds like a good plan!! My boys are begging me to make doughnuts. My oldest boy had a girl in his class ask him if his sandwich was made with Udi's bread. Most 10 year olds are not going to ask that question. Come to find out her mom has celiac and eats it all the time. Kids in my youngest boy's class are often curious...
  4. I was actually sad for my youngest son after I found out his blood work was positive. I knew he was going to have a hard time emotionally at first. I have no clue how a child would feel since I did not have that perspective. The first thing I did was explain to him that his tests showed that he had the same thing as Mommy and that he would need to...
  5. Have you had your vitamin D, iron and ferritin checked? Deficiencies in those can cause fatique. I'm totally clueless about the hormones.
  6. I believe going gluten light can have an impact. I was inadvertantly gluten light for about 10-11 months out of the 16 months I breastfed my youngest son. I had eliminated all dairy, oats, rice and tree nuts out of my diet because he had problems. I ate a lot of fresh meat, fruits and veggies. I did eat pasta and bread on occasion. The biggest thing...
  7. When I first went gluten free I tried different gluten free breads. Oh, they were so horrible. I then decided I would just do with out. I occasionally would use corn tortillas. I decided about6-8 months later to try some bread. I did like the Udi's. That said, yes it is on the dry side. I have found that I wrap it in really moist paper towles when...
  8. I'm diagnosed celiac from blood work and biopsy. I've never had the genetic tests done. My youngest son is diagnosed by blood work, his response to the gluten free diet/gluten reintroduction and my diagnosis. I wouldn't let the genetic tests keep you from putting your son gluten free and hubby. Three positives is pretty darn diagnostic of celiac despite...
  9. This will give me something to do in my down time at work tonight! I'm needing somethng else to focus on. I've been reading and working on my continuing education credits and I'm brain dead.
  10. My cat and dog are on Taste of The Wild. They love it. I think it is better for the pets anyway since they are designed to be carnivores. Ironically, my MIL has a dog that is severly allergic to wheat and grains. She called me a few weeks ago to find out what we feed our pets. She is seeing improvements already!
  11. I have to say I strongly dislike any rice based gluten free pasta. The only gluten free pasta we like, and I include my very picky husband, is Sam's Mill corn pasta. I tried a different corn pasta and hated it. So for a quick go to it is the Sams Mill. love2travel has inpired me to try homemade pasta. As soon as I can find a safe garbonzo-fava flour...

    ARCHIVED Remission?

You mother needs to request at least 8-11 biopsy samples to be taken in the small bowel for the celiac biopsy. Even then it is possible it could be negative. Sounds like she would benefit from a gluten free diet and despite the biopsy results I would encourage her to give it a try.

    ARCHIVED Remission?

I agree. This is where my older boy falls. Has been negative 4 different times on blood work over the past three years. He had a negative scope/biopsy just in Aug. He has had great results over the last three months gluten free.
  14. Have you gone through your kitchen and eliminated sources of cross contamination? You need your own toaster, pasta strainer and cutting boards waffle iron and wooden spoons if you use them. If you have any scratched nonstick cookware or plastic storage containers they probably should be replaced. If you still have regular flour/baking mixes, I would get...
  15. My 10 year old has had all the blood tests several times over the past three years. All negative and had a negative scope/biopsy in Aug. I toyed with the idea of putting him gluten free for two years but couldn't do it in light of all the negative testing. The end of August he went gluten free. It's been almost 3.5 months. I agreed to let him try gluten...
  16. Even though the blood testing has more of a chance of false negatives, I would get her blood tested first before going gluten free. If it is positive then you will have a better leg to stand on when she is in school.

    ARCHIVED Remission?

Your rash right now may be gone but your other symptoms are related. ALL your doctors have given you MISGUIDED advice!! You have celiac, and nothing is going to change that fact. You've had 3 positive biopsies for DH and that is a diagnosis of celiac. If you had gotten proper information from the start, you may not have not went down the road of several...
  18. That is pretty cool. My mom told me that something similar was in their paper not to long ago. There was local baking contest and a gluten free desert(don't know exactly what it was) won the contest.
  19. This might work for you. I love it and make it for myself often. Open Original Shared Link
  20. I have a coworker and her husband has celiac. He was diagnosed in his 60's. Here is how it all came about. He went in for an EGD because he was having some problems. The GI thought visibally something was wrong with the mucosa in the duodenum so they took some biopsies. The pathology report said villous atrophy consistent with celiac disease. He then...
  21. Welcome. It is a big change, but with time you and your son will feeling well. I was wondering if your doctors did any vitamin and mineral lab tests? Too often we are deficient in quite a few. If there is concern for bone loss(due to not absorbing vitamin d) a bone mineral density test is requested.
  22. No I quit taking it after about 2.5 months and didn't seem to have any adverse effects. My GI wasn't happy since he wanted me on it for 6 months. I take zyrtec as needed now, but I think I've built up a tolerence to it.
  23. Increased duodenal intraepithelial lymphocytes are usually seen in the very early stages of celiac. I'ts good news the villi are not damaged(yet). It is wise of your doctor to check other things out also. Sounds like he is being thorough. If, in the absence of the other mentioned conditions and even in the blood tests should come back negative, it is...
  24. This is great news! I took zantac to heal a peptic ulcer last April because I refused proton pump inhibitors. I felt it was the lesser of two evils. I did some extra reading because my "allergy" symptoms (I have no idea what triggers them) were gone. I came to the conclusion it must have been the zantac being H2 blocker. I'm happy for you.
  25. My 10, almost 11 year old has had negative blood work every year for the past three. He even had an endoscopy with biopsy and it was negative. He has been on a gluten free diet now for a little over three months. I toyed with the idea off and on for the past two years, and couldn't commit him to it with negative tests. After his biopsy I bit the bullet...
