If he is sensitive to gluten free oats, be causious with Bob's Red Mill gluten free products. I found to be very intolerent to gluten free oats after I tried them when I was 7 months gluten free. However, I almost exclusively used BRM products from day one. I started having symptoms last Jan. and didn't make the connection until August, when I was facing...

ARCHIVED Finally Made A Decison With Oldest Son
Roda posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I/we have finally made a decision to what direction to go regarding further testing for my 10 year old son. Hubby and I have been trying to make a joint decision on further testing vs. gluten free trial. Oldest son has been blood tested for celiac three times and all were negative. I'm going to get a referal to a GI and see if they will scope him. Despite... -

If his iron stores were low when starting gluten free then what he is getting in his food is probably not enough to build that up. I wasn't able to tolerate any iron until I was about 6 months gluten free. I was able to absorb the supplement then and got my stores up to normal in several months. Now I don't need supplementation any longer. -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Know If Pancrecarb Is Gluten Free
Roda replied to jackay's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've never heard of that one. I too suffered major fat malabsorption for 8 months last year. My doc wanted me to start steriods, but I refused. He did prescribe me creon (at my suggestion) and I told him that I would eliminate all gluten free stuff (prepackaged) and start from scratch again. Three months later (Nov. '10) I was doing so well that I was... -
ARCHIVED Finally Found A Pasta I Like!
Roda replied to Marc49's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I definately love the Sams Mill pastas. In our house so far it is the only one we like. We all dislike any rice based pastas. I also didn't like the quinoa/corn pasta. -
I don't have any info on that. But here is who I suspect in my family: Dad, brother and uncle (dad's brother). Confirmed celiac's are myself, my youngest son and my afformentioned uncle's great grandson. I have a 3rd cousin that is not "officially" diagnosed but so much better gluten free. I'm begining to suspect some of the mental problems my paternal...

I have not brought anything up in many days and this is how it will just have to be from now on. Unfortunately gluten free will come up since we are planning two family get togethers next month. However, The focus will be on just myself and my youngest son.

The waffles freeze well. I make up several batches at a time. I do not keep then on the iron as long if I know I am freezing them. To defrost I just pop the frozen waffle in the toaster (you'll have to tinker to find the right setting) and when it pops out it is hot and crispy! YUM

ARCHIVED Deactivate My Account Immediately
Roda replied to Karl Otto's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
I didn't get the impression that he or his sons were currently eating gluten. From his posts he has been diagnosed for about 7 yrs and I think just recently his sons. It is possible despite his very nutritional lacking diet (from what he stated he ate it was gluten free) he may have been getting cc from both of his sons. Could still explain a lot of his... -
ARCHIVED My Son's Sad Look Upon His Face
Roda replied to Karl Otto's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have been refraining from answering any of your posts to stay out of any conflict, but I can't resist any longer. I have celiac and I am certainly not disabled. I do not regret having my two sons either. Sure I understand that you are sick and have been a long time. I get that you feel that the military owes you something. It comes a point in time... -
Kinda like when my brother was patronizing me one day and I just had enough of his crap. I told him that I was confident that he had celiac and went into gory detail about all the nasty things that could come to pass. He huffed and puffed and said "so be it." He said he would never get tested because he doesn't want to know and it didn't matter anyway...

Is your mother a long lost sister to my dad? In all seriousness, I understand the frustration. My father too is content to take what the doctors say as gospel and to take a million pills. He only disagrees when it is his idea to disagree. When I asked my mother if she truely thought a life time of terrible heartburn/acid reflux was normal for anyone...

Biopsies can bring a lot of false negatives. I'm not sure what the reference range was for the tests but your younger son's seem high. IMHO he shouldn't be producing those antibodies unless he has celiac. My youngest son's ttg was positive and we did not do a biopsy. I was afraid of getting a false negative. I did a 4.5 month trial of gluten free and... -
Thanks. I don't think he will reconsider. He wouldn't want to pay for the test anyway. In his mind he does not have any symptoms at all. I'm done beating a dead horse. I did it long ago with my brother. I just yes my brother to death when he starts talking about his health issues.
-
I gave up long ago with my brother who I know without a doubt has celiac. I guess I need to give up the fight with my dad too. I have to respect their decision good or bad.
-
Will do C! Of all people I know you understand how this frustrates and makes me sad.

I second dropping any processed/packaged food even if it says gluten free. I had to do this after nearly 8 months trying to figure out why I developed new symptoms last year. My doc wanted to put me on steroids and I refused. I discovered I react terrible to any Bob's Red Mill gluten free products. Do you tolerate gluten free oats? I ask because I think...

ARCHIVED Struggling With Recovery :(
Roda replied to MissBonnie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You can always make your own almond milk. Ingredients: 1 1/2 cups almonds 4 cups filtered water sweetner to taste (optional) Take almonds put in a bowl and pour boiling water over them. Let them sit for a good 5 minutes or so to blanch them. This will make getting the skins off easier. Drain and remove skins. Place almonds and water in blender... -
Just thought I would throw something out there for you to chew on. I went 8 months chasing down what my problem was starting in Jan. 2010. From every aspect I was gluten free. I was suffering from epigastric/RUQ pain, diarrhea, reflux, fat malabsorption, etc. I didn't think it was gluten cc because that wasn't what my symptoms were before. Many tests...

My mom told me the other day that my dad was going to the doctor. He has had a change in bowel habits and it has him concerned. I casually told her that he needed to mention to the doctor that his daughter and one grandson has celiac disease and see if they could do an EGD also while they were doing a colonoscopy (already figured that was where he was headed...

Here is the Banana Spice cookie recipe: This is a recipe from my Better Homes and Gardens New Cook Book 10th edition. Original recipe is as follows and changes I made are marked with an * and in parenthesis. 375 degree oven 1/2 cup margarine or butter (I find that margarine works better. If using butter you will probably need to increase the flour...

While this isn't banana bread, I thought it would fit right in though. I found this recipe in the AmericanProfile that comes in the Sunday paper. Open Original Shared Link I modified it so I could make it gluten free. I substituted the all-purpose flour with an equal amount of gluten free flour (use whatever blend you wish) and added 1/2 teaspoon...

ARCHIVED My Child Craves Cheese
Roda replied to cows0915's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Kids at that age will get fixated on something for awhile. When my oldest was little he would eat beets literally all the time. I guess he ate so many then cause now he won't touch them! My youngest son when he was around 2-3 yrs. was fixated on PB & J. -

ARCHIVED Tissue Transglutam Ab Iga 15
Roda replied to Gautam's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My youngest son who was 5 when he was tested again(he is 6 now) only had his Iga ttg show positive. It was just one number over positive, but positive none the less. IMHO a child that age should not have those antibodies unless they are celiac as false positives are pretty rare. I put my son gluten free based on his blood work only and the fact that I...
