ARCHIVED Confused By Biopsy
Roda replied to JenF.'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
He is just wording it weird. You have celiac and the proof is in the pudding, or I should say the blood test and biopsy. A lot of people never get a positive diagnosis, making it all the more confusing. -
ARCHIVED Need Some Advice About Having Children Tested
Roda replied to CarolinaKip's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Had both of my boys blood tested a month after my diagnosis. The youngest was almost 4 and the oldest was 7. My oldest one was retested a year later at age 8 and they were both retested in 2010 with youngest almost 6 and oldest 9. First go around for both they were negative, however the whole panel wasn't done only the ttg. Didn't suspect any issues at... -
I had horrible acid reflux before being diagnosed. I REFUSED medicine and my pcp at the time thought I was stupid. I didn't want a bandaid, I wanted to know why I suddenly had reflux. I did rely on tums for the next 2 years after when needed. When I went gluten free that was my first symptom that cleard up!! Go with your gut instinct.

ARCHIVED Questions For Those Of You That Work Night Shift
Roda replied to cahill's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
When I switched to night shift almost 4 years ago it was difficult at first. It took me several months to figure out a pattern. I work 10.5-12 hr shifts though instead of 8 hour shifts. If you are going to be working five- 8hr shifts in a row I would think that would be easier. My typical schedule is week one: Sun. 7p-7a, Mon./Tues. night off, Wed./Thurs... -

ARCHIVED I Had My Colonoscopy Thursday.
Roda replied to cahill's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had a CRNA (Nurse Anesthetist) for all of my procedures and they gave me diprivan(Propofol) IV. At work we jokingly refer to it as milk of amnesia. I don't remember a blasted thing. During my first EGD the doc said I kept waking and was swinging at people. I don't have any recollection of it at all. When it came to the colonoscopy and my second EGD... -
ARCHIVED How Old Do Children Have To Be
Roda replied to sherrylynn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
He does know this especially since the youngest one went from a negative test to positive. I want him to be just as much involved in the decision making as I am. I don't want him to think I am "forcing" him. I kept pretty quiet during the gluten challenge for youngest son and he really stepped up and now has no doubts. So I feel that he may come around... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease Vaccine Shows Promising Results in Phase I Trial - Science Daily (press release)
Roda replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
Even if it does work it wouldn't help me with my avenin sensitivity... I really didn't like the last sentence. Gluten free diet can in most cases return people to good health also. It also stated that it is to have a reduction in reactions. So does that mean on some level there is autoimmunity still going on? I don't miss gluten filled food that... -
ARCHIVED Testing
Roda replied to SAVANNAH21's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Biopsy trumps blood work. Your doctor needs to be aware. If your biopsy is positive you have celiac. Welcome. -
ARCHIVED How Old Do Children Have To Be
Roda replied to sherrylynn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
We have been talking more. I'm trying to decide if we should consult with a GI. I'm not so sure they would agree to a scope and his allergist doesn't think they will either. I don't know. I'm also afraid that if the biopsy was negative that my husband would think that is the end of it and never consider it in the future. He is completely on board with... -
ARCHIVED Discussion On Why We Are Gluten Intolerant?
Roda replied to Dr. B's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I did skim through the section about autoimmunity. Here is how I understood it. In a nut shell it is theroized that autoantibodies are produced initially by exposure to a pathogen. Then those autoantibodies either from a "stress" or by mimicry, start to attack self. I don't recall seeing where it said that autoantibodies didn't destroy healthy cells.... -
ARCHIVED How To Suggest Idea Of Going Gluten Free?
Roda replied to revenant's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
This sounds like me. I see so many of my coworkers that could benefit from testing. They have so many things going on from: thyroid issue, diabetes, neuropathy, rheumatiod arthritis, fibromyalgia, reflux, colitis, IBS (don't get me started on what I think of that diagnosis), anemia, obesity, various autoimmune diseases etc...the list goes on. I also notice... -
I am with Shauna here. I tried gluten free oats (Bob's Red Mill) after I was 7 months gluten free. I reacted so bad to them. I had reflux, severe abdominal pain/gas/bloating, constipation x 5 days and a blistering rash on my nether cheeks. I refused to eat them again. I still used Bob's products on a regular basis after this though. A little after my...

I had both of my boys blood tested after my diagnosis. They were 3(almost 4) and 7 at the time. They were both negative but only the ttg was done. Had my oldest retested when he was 8 and all tests (full panel) was negative again. Had then retested again Nov. 2010 ages 5(almost 6) and 9 with full panel. ARCHIVED I Had My Colonoscopy Thursday.
Roda replied to cahill's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yep I had a colonoscopy two months after my celiac diagnosis in 2008. I was 35 so I really whined and worried. Doc removed a polyp and after he told me that the pathology came back as benign, I don't have to have another one for 10 years. Still, that puts another one at 45. I'll whine again because that will still be two colonoscopies before age 50!! -
ARCHIVED Distended Belly- Need Help Please
Roda replied to suziq0805's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It is possible that he may be getting cross contamination from the house if you and dad are not gluten free. Kids that age like to put everything in their mouths. If he touches something that you may have touched with gluten on your hands and he puts his hands in his mouth then bam, cc issues. -
ARCHIVED Need Dna Experts! Gene Dose Effect - Dq Type And Oat Tolerence

I have no idea what my genetics are as I have never had it done. However I am extremely sensitive to any oats even the pure certified gluten free ones. -
ARCHIVED Did Everyone Have A Biopsy To Determine Celiac?
Roda replied to michelle5578's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had it done in 2008 and a colonoscopy 2 months later. I had a repeat scope done in 2010 because of new issues and to also check to see how things looked. -
ARCHIVED I Let Dh Talk Me Into Something Dumb
Roda replied to Poppi's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Husband never once questioned my diagnosis since I was positive on blood and biopsy but went through something similar with my 6 year old. He did have one of his celiac tests positive in Nov. We decided not to do the scope (hubby regreted it later) and put him gluten free. We did a good 4.5 months strictly gluten free and then did a gluten challenge. ... -
ARCHIVED Ok, Not To Be A Total Skeptic...
Roda replied to HS7474's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't know if I have actually been glutened from anything in this way to be honest. Some things I just replaced to avoid any potential problem. Things I got rid or/replaced included: wooden cutting boards that I had bread/gluten on, wooden spoons, baking stone, bake ware (they had cooked on "stuff"), toaster, plastic colonder, my old plastic utensils... -

Be clear with him about how the gluten made you feel and don't give in to the additional requests! Sorry you feel crummy. I hope the glutening doesn't last to long. -
ARCHIVED Oat Flour
Roda replied to HS7474's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sorry hun but Cap'n Crunch is not gluten free. Commercial oats are contaminated from the harvesting equipment and storage. Unless a product uses certified gluten free oats, it's not gluten free. Then there are the 10% of celiacs/gluten intolerent that can't even eat the pure certified gluten free oats. I am one of the one's that can't tolerate them. ... -
ARCHIVED Dental Treament For Celiacs And Fosamax
Roda replied to SilverDreamMachine's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My mother can not take any of the drugs for osteoporsis. She started to have destruction of her tmj's and other side effects. Her endocrinologist advised her not to take any of them. I don't think severe reactions like hers is all that common though.
