  1. I agree with Peter. If you want to take it further you could consult with a gi and get the EGD and biopsy. You can have negative blood work and positive biopsy, but biopsy can produce false negatives too. Or if you are comfortable with putting her gluten free without a dr. diagnosis then go for it. I don't have a doctor diagnosis for my 6 year old son...
  2. I usually say that I have celiac or celiac disease. If someone does not know what that is I tell them I can't eat anything with wheat, rye, barley and for me oats. My 6 year old son had a positve ttg but did not have a biopsy or a gi diagnosis but I still tell people the same thing for him. More than likely he has celiac anyway.
  3. I had an UGI series about 6 months after my symptoms started in 2006. My "barium meal" showed prominant gastric folds of unkown significance (probably gastritis). I was told at the time by my primary care physician my UGI was normal. Fast forward to 2008 I had a positive blood test and showed esophagatis, duodenitis and scalloped duodenal folds on my...
  4. Count me in the 10% that react to gluten free oats. I also react to BRM products since they have oat cc. I don't know if my 6 year old does or not. I haven't given him any yet. When he was a baby though he would get a terrible rash from baby oatmeal and rice cereal even organic cereal without anything else added. We ended up feeding him barley cereal...
  5. I admit my dentist does not know much about celiac and the effects on enamel. My oldest son, who is 10, has had a lot of cavities in his baby teeth. He also just had a cavity filled in his first permanant molar. We even had sealants put on them. I was so upset. He also on one of his top lateral incisors (permanant tooth) has a big huge white spot. I...
  6. I add 2 oz of softened cream cheese to the yellow cake mix. I made it for my youngest son's 6th birthday party like this and it was all gone the next day. It was so good and moist. My gluten eating husband ate most of it.
  7. Just my personal experience. A D.O vs. an MD doesn't guarantee you'll get any further. My children's pediatrician is a D.O. and he REFUSED to test my kids after I was diagnosed. I was so mad! They were both seeing an allergist/immunologist (who was an MD) at the time and ordered the tests no questions asked. We see a different allergist now due to insurance...

    ARCHIVED Diagnosed Over The Phone

Wow! A doctor that didn't tell you to suck it up. Your symptoms do sound consistant with celiac. Do you have a trusting relationship with this doctor? If so, and your comfortable with his suggestion and not getting further testing then go for it.
  9. I curious how I would differentiate a spike in growth due to being gluten free or just a normal growth spurt.
  10. I hope your little man feels better soon. Accidents happen, so don't be so hard on yourself. It sounds like you do a good job!
  11. I'm probably not going to challenge him, since I keep putting it off. I think subconsciously I don't want to anyway. My husband kept asking "when" and I told him I didn't know. As in my most recent post, my husband doesn't want me to bother if I intend to keep him gluten free anyway. He doesn't want to confuse him.
  12. I don't know I've tasted some pretty expensive gluten free stuff that has been terrible.
  13. Well, three months came and went and I still have not reintroduced gluten. My husband asked when I am going to and I really don't know. I think my husband is regretting agreeing to do the trial of gluten free without consulting the GI. He doesn't understand why I would reintroduce it if I am going to eventually keep him gluten free anyway. He thinks this...
  14. I've been seriously considering (I know, what am I waiting for ) the need for my oldest son to be gluten free (allergist already thinks he needs to be) and was wanting to do the proper testing. He is still consuming a regular diet. He had blood work done several times now. 11/4/08 (celiac panel was ordered but lab only did the ttg) total IgA ...
  15. Yep, from what I understand smarties in the US and Canada are two entirely different things. The link above is for smarties in the US and are gluten free.
  16. I commend you for everything that you are doing for your children. It sounds like they both would benefit from being 100% guten free.
  17. Were the trix bagged up by someone else?
  18. My vote is on the Trix cereal. My youngest son (who is gluten free also) and I eat starburst, tootsie rolls and smarties without any problem. Starburst states gluten free on the lable Open Original Shared Link tootsie has a gluten statement Open Original Shared Link smarties claims they are gluten free Open Original Shared Link and for the sweetarts Wonka...
  19. I personally do not like any of the gluten free "graham crackers". I have made the crust only from this recipe and it was good. Open Original Shared Link Recently I bought these cinnamon crackers from Ener-G foods Open Original Shared Link and made a cheese cake crust out of them and it was out of this world good.
  20. The two publix I was in were in Kissimmee I believe.
  21. We did this and there was no problem at all.
  22. We had some popcorn, cotton candy, frozen fruit bars and frozen bananas at the parks. All you have to do is ask to see their allergen statement and they will pull out a book for you to look at. We didn't eat out at all when we were there. We did all of our cooking in our Airstream and carried in our lunch everyday at the park in a small cooler that fit...
  23. Just a quick tip on BabyCakes. The stuff I tried was really good. This location does only gluten free items unlike their other locations that do use some spelt. The down side is if you can't tolerate Bob's Red Mill flours don't eat their stuff otherwise you should be fine. According to their website they use flours from them. My 6 year old tolerated...
  24. I too noticed changes in my cycle. I was very regular every 28 days and before gluten free had lots of cramping and SEVERE mood swings. Several months after gluten free the periods got lighter, moods improved significantly and they didn't last as long. Now I cycle every 26 days which sucks, but there is very little cramping and they are usually done in...
  25. I know that must suck not sleeping. About two weeks ago I was up for almost 24 hrs. Not fun!
