ARCHIVED Criped Rice -?
Roda replied to ValeriaZ's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Most mainstream crisped rice has malt added to it which comes from barley so they are not gluten free. Also there is the cross contamination issue as well. There are gluten free crisp rice cereals out there as I buy them often to make crisp rice marshmallow treats with them. Here are a few gluten free ones: Erewhon Crispy Brown Rice Cereal Open Original... -
I thought this topic would be an entertaining read.

ARCHIVED When You Feel So Tired But You Can't Sleep....
Roda replied to healinginprogress's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I would like to try it but just read on one site that it can interact with verapamil. I just started(trial basis) on it for the raynaud's symptoms. The verapamil can make the melatonin less effective by helping the body get rid of it quicker. However, it is getting warmer and I could just not take the verapamil and try the melatonin and see how it works... -
ARCHIVED When You Feel So Tired But You Can't Sleep....
Roda replied to healinginprogress's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
So would this work for shift work too? I work nights and have trouble getting good sleep in the morning after I get off work. I had thought about taking provigil to stay more alert at work when I didn't get good sleep, but it has gluten in it. Even if it had been safe my doctor didn't recommend it for me. She thought it would increase my heartrate too... -
I tell my kids that if they reach for my plate to grab something they may end up with a fork in their hands! Keeps the kids from getting grabby..might work on adults too. I do not mind sharing if they ask politly and I will get it for them and then put it on their plates.

ARCHIVED Is My Doctor Overzealous In Diagnosing Me With Celiacs?
Roda replied to atyose's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yep honey, we all know how much a PITA it was and is. I was cruising along fine doing gluten free for myself but when I put my youngest son gluten free in Nov. I found that it became a little harder. He would want things that I either didn't eat or couldn't eat so I found myself having to check things that I normally wouldn't and didn't buy. At home... -
I love the EA active 1 and 2 personal trainer. I got great results from the first one. I sorta fell off the wagon and need to get back on. I do recommend you buy a good set of bands since the one that comes with it is not very good. I bought the Wii Activ3 Workout Kit to go with it. The balance board is optional I think with these, but I prefer to use...

Mind you I am just giving you my experience. Please get further clarification from your doctor. The barium can harden and potentially cause a blockage, hence why it is recommended to drink plenty of fluids and stay well hydrated. If you are prone to constipation ask your doctor about the need for a laxative. I have had the barium myself when I first started...

Sounds like you have a good GI doctor. I would definately follow her advice. So many on here would love to have a doctor like that. Good luck. -

ARCHIVED Testing My Son?
Roda replied to applegirl03's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had the same problem with our ped after my diagnosis. He REFUSED to test my boys. I was furious. Luckily they were seeing an allergist/immunologist at the time and he ordered testing over the phone with no questions asked! My oldest has been tested a total of three times and all three negative (he is the one who seemed to have symptoms)but his current... -
I've been an x-ray/ct technologist for 16 years, and sure you can ask a few questions. If I don't know the answers I will certainly try to find out. There is barium for CT and barium for regular x-rays. The difference is the concentrations.

ARCHIVED Frustration Has Led To New Paranoia And Strictness...
Roda replied to healinginprogress's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Off the subject but in another topic you mentioned you had several prescription medications that had gluten in them. Did you ever replace them with gluten free ones? -
Interesting article. I can see how that would work for a CT scan as I have given patients water for example for a CT scan of the pancreas. It helps distend the stomach. Unfortunately this method seems to work for only CT exams and will not help you for regular barium x-rays.

I would see someone else. If he was this way to you in the office, then who's to say he will even do the procedure right. He might end up telling you they did a biopsy and then not do it. Another person posted recently about that happening to them. So, again, I personally would not let this person touch me. Find someone more compentent!

ARCHIVED Any Tips For Gas And Bloating?
Roda replied to healinginprogress's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I second relacing your current meds with a gluten free counterpart. It is important to check and make sure all your meds and suppplements are gluten free! Gas Ex gel caps work well for me when I am bloated and full of gas. -
ARCHIVED My Parents? I Need Advice!
Roda replied to guitarchik's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Based on the poster's signature she is diagnosed with celiac by blood test and biopsy. With that you need to take them to your doctor to discuss the seriousness of this. Not being able to accomidate your needs can have serious consequences to your health. You are still a minor and they need to help you with this by providing you safe options. What are... -
We don't give our patients the contrast with anything BUT water. On occasion when we have a child we may mix it with some kind of punch, but water is usually the only option at my facility. Glad you survived the glutening!
-
Unless they are mixing the barium with milk then I would say no. Barium is either reconstituted with water or comes premixed. Milk will not show up on an x-ray.
-
I am assuming you are talking about a small bowel series or also called a small bowel follow through test? If you are I'm not sure why they gave you the moviprep. Usually that kind of prep is used for colonoscopy or a barium enema x-ray but hey, every place has there own preps. A small bowel series is a test to evaulate the small bowel. You will probably...

ARCHIVED Jealousy?
Roda replied to healinginprogress's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I offer stuff to my husband and he is hesitant because of me not being able to just grab anything I want. He has his own stash of stuff on the top shelf in the pantry, but we buy and share alot of things. I think as long as he isn't eating it all and leaving you high and dry it's not worth fighting over. Obviously though he needs educated on how not to... -
Hope it keeps getting better. Man, after reading how some people get wicked morning sickness, I feel fortunate (please don't hate me or throw stones ) that I never had morning sickness. Only a little nausea for about a month and only if I smelled tuna!

ARCHIVED Good Deal On Udi's Bread
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Unfortunately you can only print one coupon per email address. I have two so I printed two cupons. I may get some of my friends email addresses and see if they will print the cupons for me. Hey gluten free deserves some savings too. My youngest son goes through the bread pretty quick. -
