ARCHIVED Goodbye Gallbladder
Roda replied to goodnews's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree that in some instances gluten free won't heal an already diseased/disfunctional gallbladder. I did have some underlying hidden gluten issues that I have since identified and fixed, but I think it caused my already slightly underfunctioning gb more damage. I don't think gluten free at this point is going to do didly for it. Feb. 2010 it was at... -
ARCHIVED Positive Blood Test, Endoscopy Next Week
Roda replied to Katrala's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's a good idea to get your kids screened. I had both of mine screened after my diagnosis. Both kids were negative on blood work. My oldest son has been blood tested twice since then and has continuted to have negative blood work. FF to Nov. 2010 when the youngest son was rescreened and he had a positive IgA ttg. He went gluten free after the results... -
ARCHIVED Positive Blood Test, Endoscopy Next Week
Roda replied to Katrala's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well that just sucks that the doctor's office dropped the ball on that one. You've had four months extra to be miserable. Now that you know def go gluten free after you are done with testing. -

ARCHIVED Goodbye Gallbladder
Roda replied to goodnews's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Here is food for thought. You could have both issues going on..celiac and gb disease. I didn't have any problems with my gallbladder until I was one year gluten free. It functions suboptimal, but above the % for surgical intervention. It has been tolerable for a year now, but I think it has gotten worse. I've gotta go get it checked out again. -
ARCHIVED Wanted To Be Retested After Being Gluten Free- Doctor Said No Point?
Roda replied to HS7474's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My GI told me that my levels would never go down either. I knew he was wrong. I have had them rechecked twice since my initial diagnosis and my ttg last was 4 down from 78 so I guess now he knows he was wrong. My Igg gliadin is still just positive as of last Aug. I'm hoping the changes I made since then are helping..gotta go get a recheck. -
ARCHIVED Experiences With Mrs. Leeper's Pasta?
Roda replied to Mom to MandM's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I use Mrs. Leepers alphabet pasta for soup. I haven't tried any others. We don't generally like rice based pastas in our house. We LOVE the Sam Mills it is all we will eat! I find it is more firm and my gluten eating husband likes the texture and taste. Even cooked properly we find the rice pastas to mushy and slimy. -
ARCHIVED Best Store-Bought Kids' Snacks? Nuggets?

ARCHIVED How Common Is It To Not Have Diarrhea And Have Celiac?
Roda replied to Candikane's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My son was around 5 1/2 years when he started complaing of random stomach aches. Some he would lay on the couch, others he wanted me to rub his belly and some he would mention and then go off to play. He always was a good pooper. He is like clock work every day and no diarrhea or constipation. I did notice a few times some fat floating though. Temper... -
I have substituted buckwheat groats or millet.

ARCHIVED Advice About My Gasroscopy Please....
Roda replied to fozbery's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The CT contrast (drink) can cause D whether or not there is gluten in it. A lot of people complain of that. It shoots through you very rapidly. It should pass soon. Hopefully what you drank was gluten free.. most are but there are a few that are not. I had some mild D after my CT scan (I had a CT enterography exam last year). I had to drink three full... -
ARCHIVED High Antibodies After Three Months
Roda replied to Nugget's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would say that your dog has gluten on her from the shampoo. Commercial oats are crosscontaminated with wheat. Then you have around 10% of the celiac population that can't tolerate any oats at all even certified pure gluten free oats. I unfortunately fall into that catagory. In those sensitive people it can cause the same symptoms, and IMHO the same... -
ARCHIVED Gatlinburg/pigeon Forge Tn
Roda replied to lynnelise's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I'm not real familure with the dining.. but here is my three experiences. First was at a steak house at the Tanger outlets called the Chop house (eaten there twice) and they were more than accomidating. The server went to ask the chef personally if an item I was inquiring was safe and I got real honest answers to yes or no. I never got sick. The other... -

Yep the total Iga validates the testing. Why not ask the doctor to the Igg versions before you start gluten free? -
ARCHIVED Chex Cereal
Roda replied to anewlife's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I get heartburn from the cinnamon chex. I don't think it is a gluten thing since I eat the others without issue. I'm pretty sure it is the artifical cinnamon flavor. Both hubby and I have problems with artificial cinnamon flavors, but can tolerate the real thing. -
ARCHIVED Deboles Pasta
Roda replied to GFreeMO's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My boys and I will eat rice pasta if we don't have anyother choice but we like the corn pastas the best. Sams Mill corn pasta at our house. Even hubby will eat it. Sorry you are feeling bad. I hope it passes soon. At the very least they should put on the package "manufactured on shared equipment as wheat" -

ARCHIVED High Antibodies Even On gluten-free Diet
Roda replied to wattie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Just be aware that in some instances stoping PPI's cold turkey can lead to a rebound effect. Basically the meds are decreasing the acid produced in the stomach. When you stop taking it the acid producing cell are in effect "turned" back on, or start producing more acid. I was afraid to take a PPI because of that so I suffered until my diagnosis. Last... -
ARCHIVED High Antibodies Even On gluten-free Diet
Roda replied to wattie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If you are now just 10 weeks in then according to your post your last blood test was done 8 weeks in. That is really not very long. By the sound of it you have had symptoms (acid reflux) for 12 years. That is a long time for gluten to do damage and it may take quite awhile for the antibodies to go down. I didn't even have repeat blood work until the ... -
ARCHIVED Gluten "test"
Roda replied to Kelleybean's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That was my thought. We put my youngest son gluten free after he had a full celiac pannel done. The only thing positive was the ttg. I figured he is celiac based on that positive test and me having it. We did not do a scope or consult with a GI. His daddy wanted a little more evidence that we did the right thing so after 4 1/2 month we decided to do... -
Thanks!!

I would definatly like the name and location of the endocrinologist you saw too. My mom sees some guy in Erie and I just don't think I agree with him all the time. If need be, this person could be an alternative if she was to ever decide to go elsewhere.

I so agree and see it every day in my line of work.. but I'm limited to what I can say. Mostly I just think to myself.

ARCHIVED Biopsy/scope Showed Damage But Not Celiac?
Roda replied to brendab's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If for some reason they may still have his biopsy sample you could request another pathologist to review it and the report for a second opinion. Sometimes the pathologist may be inexperienced in reading the biopsy, the sample wasn't orientated correctly or your doctor does not know how to interperate the pathology report. I would request a copy of the pathology...
