ARCHIVED I Finally Found An Edible Biscuit

I'm not sure if anyone would like that or not. I don't think hubby would. The kids never liked it anyway so that not an issue. -

Here is the link again. https://www.celiac.com/articles/405/1/Roben-Rybergs-Biscuits-Gluten-Free/Page1.html I may have to try a small batch with rice milk and try it out. -

I will be freezing the ones we don't eat tommorow. If they freeze and thaw well then I'll have something quick to snack on! Kim27...your welcome! I may have to put the sausage gravy on hold for awhile. I have been toying with small amounts of dairy and I think milk is still bothering me. I'm doing OK with small amounts of hard cheese though which... -

That is essentially the same recipe I gave a link to except this one uses butter instead of shortening and buttermilk for the milk. This version has you make the biscuits a little different. I just patted out the dough and cut mine out really thick. I did not handle it much. But unlike regular flour, you can't overwork gluten free doughs making them tough... -

I'm not sure either, but I found the recipe featured on here so here is the regular biscuit recipe. I have not made this version, but I suspect it will be just as good since it is very similar. I made the sweet biscuit recipe for shortcake and the differences are: 1/4 cup sugar,1 1/2 teaspoon xanthan gum, 2/3 cup milk and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla flavoring... -

Here are some links to sausage gravy and biscuits and pictures of american biscuits. They would be somewhat similar to a scone. They are also good when you split them and eat them with a sausage patty and fried egg. In the south it is popular to eat them with country ham. They are also good with butter or jam/jelly. I don't have a recipe I follow, just watched my mother growing up. I hope when I make it with gluten free thickners it comes out allright. Basically I brown and drain appx. 1 pound of sausage (swaggerty's is our favorite, it is a regional product out of the Seiverville area) then add it back into my pan and add enough milk to cover the sausage. When heated... -

My MIL found a copy of The Gluten Free Kitchen by Roben Ryberg (copyright 2000) at a yard sale and gave it to me last month. I used her sweet biscuit recipe so I could have strawberry shortcake later for desert. OMG!! They baked liked real biscuits, looked like real biscuits, and tasted like real biscuits! I will be using her regular biscuit recipe to... -
ARCHIVED Help Me Make Sense Of This?
Roda replied to kbidarch's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have had my kids blood tested and they are both negative. If either one of them showed up positive on any one of the bloodwork tests I would not hesitate to put them gluten free based on that. I would have them get an EGD and biopsy too just to rule out other things also. I am blood and biopsy proven celiac, but now that I know more than I did when I... -
ARCHIVED The Rest Of The Household...
Roda replied to NorthernElf's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The first time I had my kids tested the lab did not run all the tests because the doctor wrote "celiac panel" so they would only run the total IgA and the tTg. If the tTg was positive they would reflex to the EMA. Both kids were negative. I had the oldest retested a about a year later and had the doctor write out each individual test. Again all were negative... -

All our shared meals are gluten free with the exception of when we have pasta. We just cook both. Anything I bake I make gluten free. If they want something else they either buy it at the bakery or make a box mix. Most of the time they don't bother. The kids and hubby do eat gluten cereals and bread for breakfast. Hubby eats what ever he wants for lunch... -
ARCHIVED Can Someone Comment On Thyroid Tests?
Roda replied to mushroom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
At the very least she needs her levothyroxine increased. I felt so much better when my current endocrinologist started me on liothyronine (T3 or aka cytomel). I feel the best with my free T3 slightly above normal and a lower TSH. Mine right now is a little below the low number. I'm not symptomatic and the doc said everything looked good. Cytomel has... -
I hope the storm does not hurt the seedlings. I just discovered the cucumbers are coming up already! We have had plenty of rain over the weekend so that helped. I still don't have my zuccs and yellow squash sowed yet, ugg! I need to get on it tomorrow.

My question is did he just not "think" about what he was doing or did he do it on purpose? There are plenty of good gluten free bbq sauces he can eat. I agree, until he can be careful about his habbits, then I wouldn't trust him to make you food. However, he does need to put forth an effort to learn how things are going to work. It will take time, but...

I don't think you are being selfish just the opposite. This is an opportunity for him and your daughter to have a nice outing the two of them. Maybe after that you and her can do something special. I wouldn't want to sit there and not be able to safely eat anything either. Sure you could bring something to eat, but if you really don't want to go I don... -
I think this guy's behavior says alot about his character. He sounds like he is a winner!! It seems like he is not letting your food restrictions get in the way of getting to know you, which is great!

That is a great idea if you can tolerate corn. Another alternative is to use arrowroot starch. You may have to increase the liquids because arrowroot will make them drier. -
ARCHIVED Certified gluten-free Oats
Roda replied to AlysounRI's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It is reported that appx. 10-15% of celiacs react to certified gluten free oats also. I am one of those. I was 7 months into the gluten free diet when I decided to try them. I used Bob's Red Mill. They were very good..no they were GREAT! Oh how I missed oats. I made these cookies with them in and I was in heaven. However, the good feeling was short... -
I'm in Greeneville and go to Knoxville frequently. There is a pizza place called Roman's Pizza that has a gluten free menu and pizza. You have to call ahead to make reservations because the owner is the only one who makes the gluten free stuff and in charge of the cleaning/handling. I've been wanting to go, but can't seem to get coordinated enough. Triliumhunter...

ARCHIVED Stonyfields Yogurt
Roda replied to conniebky's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I used to eat the plain and vanilla yogurt without problems. I am still doing a dairy free trial so I'm not consuming any right now. When I do reintroduce dairy, yogurt will probably be one of the first things I try. -
I sowed my cucumber and green bean seed yesterday. I am going to try and get my zucchini and yellow squash seeds sown this weekend. I love working with my garden stuff. It is a good stress reliever for me. I wish I had more room to do a more conventional garden. I just put things in where I have room in my existing flower gardens etc. At least I have...

ARCHIVED Feeling A Little Discouraged.....

I was told this too. How stupid. I now call the pharmacy to verify the company who makes the meds and contact the company too. If the pharmacist knows about gluten it is just an added bonus, but I go with the companies answer.
