ARCHIVED Convincing Husband To Get Tested.
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Funny you should mention his "ill health." No he does not like it but he now has the mindset that he does not want to deal with it any more. We actually got into an argument (which rarely happens) over it. I was asking him if he was going to give anymore thought to a possible treatment for his PVPD and that's what started the argument. I was told that... -
Followed up last month with the GI doc. I tried a trial of welchol and it really didn't do much. Doc said maybe do stool testing for fat if it did not work and to check back. I then broke down and bought some digestive enzymes at the health food store and I really do think they help. They did not eliminate the problem completly, but made them less. I got...

ARCHIVED Convincing Husband To Get Tested.
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My husband went to the dentist to have a cavity filled this week. In the last three years he has had so many fillings, a tooth extracted, a crown, and still needs another crown. This last cavity he had filled was just a watch area 6 months ago and upon his x-rays this visit it was discovered to be really bad. She told him that she had to drill really deep... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Not Have Kids And Not Work Too?
Roda replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I see nothing wrong with being either a SAHW or SAHM or both. I would love to be able to work part time at least and be home more. I am the happiest when I am spending time with my husband and kids, baking, canning, gardening, sewing, and doing other stuff. I do enjoy my profession and would like to still keep doing that but just cut back. A girl can... -
I am currently taking 112 mcg of levothyroxine and 5 mcg of cytomel in the morning and then another 5 mcg of cytomel in the early afternoon. It was at the six month mark post diagnosis that I was having symptoms of overmedication (labs confirmed this too) that the endo lowered me from the 125 mcg of levothyroxine to the 112 mcg. I usually have my enocrinologist...

ARCHIVED Visually Most Repulsive Gluteny Food
Roda replied to mushroom's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Well, I can honestly say I have never ate at a Jack in the Box, but I love the comercials. Mostly because I found the big white head funny. My favorite commercials are the Christmas ones with all the Jack balls coming from everywhere. For the longest time my husband had his mom get us the Jack balls for the car antenae. Darn, my last one is about to go... -
No I have never tried any of the natural thyroid medications. My current combination and dosage is working great. I feel really good. I felt even better after I got my vitamin D and ferritin back to normal. I even had my levothyroxine lowered last year, but unfortunately I think that will be the only decrease I will probably ever see. I started absorbing...

ARCHIVED Is Udi's Bread Always Frozen?
Roda replied to Streetlegal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I too can only find it frozen where I am at. THe first time I bought it I was so excited based on the reviews here. The first loaf was really good. I ate it out of the package and it made a heck of a grilled cheese. I went back and bought four more loves and I have one left in the freezer. Maybe I'ts just me or I got my bread fix out of my system, but... -
Since 2007 I take levothyroxine and cytomel in the morning and cytomel in the afternoon. I have felt the best ever on this combination. Before this I was only on levothyroxine.

Roda replied to Juliebove's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't blame you for not listening when the tone starts out like that. I'm wondering if it is contagious? My 9 1/2 year old has been almost unbearable he keeps tormenting his 5 1/2 year old brother to the point of really being innapropriate. They were going at it so bad Thursday that I just wanted to go into my room, lock the door and forget (just for... -
I am anxious to try these! There is nothing like dipping an oreo in a cold glass of milk.

ARCHIVED Flushable Wipes - Like Cottonelle, Scott, Etc.
Roda replied to G-FreeGirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Is it the one written by Dana Korn? I have read that also and found it very down to earth. I personally think it makes a good resource for others that aren't gluten free. -
I made strawberry jam tonight for the first time. I had several bags of frozen strawberries in the freezer so I thought I would give it a try. It tastes so good. I have 8 half pint jars sitting on my counter cooling. So far 7 of them have sealed. If the last one doesn't I'll just put it in the fridge. This kind of stuff does not last long around here...

ARCHIVED Convincing Husband To Get Tested.
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I've often wondered what my DNA analysis would show. My insurance won't pay for genetic testing. I would like to get the whole profile done, not just look for DQ2 and DQ8, but don't know where or how much it would cost. Depending on what genes I have could it give an insight whether I passed them on to my boys? -
ARCHIVED Reading Some Of These Topics Has Me Thinking
Roda replied to macocha's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My 5 1/2 year old, who will be starting kindergarden next month, is 43" and weighs in at 40 lb. He is fitting into his clothes size fine, but some 5's are bit big especially pants, usually to baggy but need the length. Different brands fit differently also. I have found that the better made more expensive outfitters, he can wear a smaller size than if... -
ARCHIVED Convincing Husband To Get Tested.

I'm just not sure how to convey all of this to the doctor without sounding pushy. Weird thing also for the last month or so both my boys have been complaining of tummy aches. They are not sick, just say their stomach hurts and point "all over." I know that they both have been having alot of gas pain and the youngest is complaining of having trouble going... -
ARCHIVED Convincing Husband To Get Tested.
Roda posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think I may have convinced the husband to go and get a complete physical. He has seen many doctors over the last five years for vasectomy complications, chronic sinus infections (had endoscopic sinus surgery last year) to high blood pressure. The ENT is wanting to test him for allergies since he is still getting infections. We know he is allergic just... -
I found out I was deficient 4 months after diagnosis. I've been taking RX vitamin D 50,000 iu weekley now for about 1 1/2 years. My level is perfect now. My various doctors recommend me staying on that dose all the time.

I have been taking Nature's Sourse Absorbaid. I found these at my local health food store. I did not want one with the betaine HCL or pepsin because I did not know if it would aggrivate my ulcer. So I got this one instead and it seemed to help some. At least the watery stool was gone. I still have soft yellow stool, but at least I'm not going all the...

Yep. I've been having this problem since January. Sometimes it is just loose but many times I have D, there is undigested fat and and very malodorous. There has been times I have barely made it to the bathroom. In Feb. I had a gallbladder ultrasound (normal) and Hida scan (suboptimal but above the sugical thrrshold), some stool testing in March for parasites...

ARCHIVED Good gluten-free Meatball Recipe
Roda replied to Spartans1960's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I make this bread and dry it in the oven to make bread crumbs. I use them in place of regular ones in my meatball recipe. I find I do use less gluten free crumbs.
