  1. Glad it worked out. Summer nights are great. My two boy's and I caught lightning bugs tonight. They still have them in the jar so they could see them when they went to sleep. I'll let them go later when they are asleep. Sometimes we just need to take a few steps back, slow down and enjoy the simple pleasures that our life gives us. Here's to summer...
  2. You would be suprised to learn how little other healthcare associates really know about gluten and celiac disease. I like the other posters comment to look at it as an opportunity to educate someone. I am in the allied health profession myself and I have found it to be an opportunity to educate others, even doctors. I see alot of patients that come in...
  3. I believe that it can be used and added to bread to increase the gluten content of the dough/bread. Ugg, yep poison in a box for us.
  4. I noticed the doctor did not order the antigliadin IgA and IgG antibodies. They should have been done with the rest of them. You could also insist on an EGD with biopsy if you want to go this route. It may not show celiac (can get false negatives if damage is spotty or not enough samples were taken), but it can look for other things also. If you have...
  5. I would have been mad too. There was no excuse for his behavior and not saying he was sorry and making sure you were alright. People just don't use their manners anymore and it is sad. I preach manners to my children. Here is something else to consider. While he may not have had any intention on appoligizing, he may not wanted any further confrontation...
  6. Yep, these are good. I eat the thai kitchen ones that are in the box too. Thai peanut is really good. I keep them in my locker at work for something quick.
  7. Did they say you had an ulcer? When someone vomits coffee ground emesis (vomit) it usually indicates blood. Could you have a bleeding ulcer? I'm not trying to scare you, but you need to ask the doctor about this and find out if it could be blood or something else.

  9. While I can understand your concern, the radiation is very low. I have noticed you travel alot. Do you fly? You would recieve comparible radiation from the HIDA scan as you would a transcontinental flight or several months of natural background radiation. There is an exam called an ERCP. You are preped the same way as an upper gi scope, but they pass...
  10. It is possible that your spices are cross contaminated if you are still using the same ones you had before going gluten free or the company is a shared facility and cross contamination happened in the factory.
  11. Around 6 years or so ago I had a lipid panel done. Never had one done before. Total cholesterol, HDL, LDL and triglycerides were all low. My triglyceride level was the lowest and it was 4. I had a doctor tell me they had never seen a level so low before and that I was "lucky". The only thing they recommended was to try and raise my HDL. After I was...
  12. If your gallbladder ultrasound was normal and you want to investigate further ask for a nuclear medicine HIDA scan with CCK to be done. This will check the functioning of the gallbladder which the ultrasound does not. I'm on this road now, except I know it's my gallbladder causing me grief. I'm still on the fence about getting it out or not. On one hand...
  13. I'm still making almond milk, but I have discovered a few things. From what I have read soaking the nuts so many hours or overnight helps you digest them better but, I've decided to just take the almonds unsoaked and blanch them to remove the skins. It comes out much better. I have noticed the last few times I soaked the nuts that the milk had a slight...

    ARCHIVED Grocery Book

I have the 2008-2009 copy of Celias grocery guide. I used it alot when I was first diagnosed. I don't have the current volume, but do reference the copy I have and then read lables. You can go on their website and they will give you updates on products that are no longer gluten free, but listed in the book. I just crossed them out.
  15. It means trying to conceive.
  16. On the bread I have been baking it rises double in the pan. It bakes at 400 deg. for 10 minutes and you are to cover it with foil for the remainder. By the time it is done it is not double the size baked. However, I know it has had a good rise when I cut it and there small air pockets in the bread. I am also baking it in a oblong clay baker with a clay...
  17. I would like to hear more from people that had their gallbladders revmoved after celiac diagnosis. I've been gluten free for a little over 1 1/2 years. I had a repeat egd last month and have been treating a stomach ulcer since. I have had worsening symptoms of explosive, yellow, foul diarrhea that appears to have fat floating (Sorry tmi). These symptoms...
  18. My husband who is not gluten free, just eats all my baked goods that way, likes the sorghum mix I use now better than rice based mixes. I also make pancakes with 1/2 brown rice flour and buckwheat flour that we love.
  19. I'm looking forward to trying the bisquick mix. I never liked hamburger helper so I don't care about that. Their brownies are my favorite, nice and fudgy not cake-like.
  20. Some people are that sensitive. I use it all the time too without any obvious problems. Try a different brand that is from a strictly gluten free facility to see if the same thing happens. It might give you an answer if it is cross contamination or a sensitivity to the buckwheat itself.

  22. The pill is has most likely dissolved by now, but it could have caused some irritation causing the sensation. Sometimes the esophagus can go into a spasm that feels like sharp pains (not fun). I had problems with pills getting stuck at the very bottom. Since controlling my reflux and treating my stomach ulcer (I had distal esophagatis on last EGD), this...
  23. I've been taking Rx vitamin D (50,000 iu) weekly for over a year. My numbers went from 17 over a year ago to above 60 last month. I'm still taking it at the recommendation of my endocrinologist and gyn.
  24. I voted gi issues. I usually get heartburn, bloating and contipation.
  25. I do like coconut milk. I made yogurt with it and it was very good. I used it in smoothies with almond milk and the kids and I loved it. Hubby ate some chicken that was marrinated in a mixture with it in. I may have to give it a try. It sounds odd, but then again so did alot of the things I never tried before going gluten free. I like to think I am...
