ARCHIVED Thyroid
Roda replied to ToriMartin's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There are some people that claim that going gluten free helped their thyroid. For me personally going gluten free hasn't had any affect on it. The only thing it did was, once my intestines healed, I started absorbing my medication better. I did have my dose lowered once. I will always require thryoid replacement. -
ARCHIVED Are Campfire Marshmallows gluten-free
Roda replied to Mizzo's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I recently contacted them myself and here is a reply I got on July 6, 2010. I had seen the giant ones and wanted some for camping. -
ARCHIVED Bakery On Main Granola
Roda replied to Nor-TX's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
It is good stuff and addicting too. I love the maple flavor. -
I would say you probably got glutened from him eating the cookies and touching things. Maybe since he ate the cookies then nursed, his saliva was on you. Could you have touched the area and maybe crosscontaminated yourself from your hands?

ARCHIVED My Blood Test Was Negative
Roda replied to firefightersgal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you think your rash could be dermatitis herpetiformis you could have it biopsied. If that is positive you are celiac. You need to have the derm biopsy the area next to the lesion and NOT the actual lesion. There are others on here that have this that can give you better advice than me. Here is a link: Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Whats The Final Verdict On Chex?
Roda replied to jasonD2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The cinnamon ones bother me too, but I think it is something to do with the flavoring because I have problems, but not as bad, with the chocolate too. I can do the plain rice and corn chex just fine though. -
ARCHIVED Betty Crocker Gluten Free Brownie Mix
Roda replied to Frances03's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I substitute coconut oil for the butter in them and we all scarf them down at my house. -
ARCHIVED Can Biopsy Give Useful Info 8 Months After Gluten-Free?
Roda replied to Chakra2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There was a person on here that opted out of the biopsy initally and then many months later had the EGD and biopsy because I believe she was still having problems. From what I can remember her biopsy was positive and they were able to address some other issues as well. I think it was foodiegurl so maybe she can chime in and talk to you. Celiac isn't the... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have A Mom And Dad With Celiac?
Roda replied to Chakra2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The "beer gut", oh my gosh, sounds just like my dad. Granted he does drink beer, but no matter how much weight he looses he has this belly that just sticks out and is very disproportionate to the rest of his body. He finaly got tested and his doctor told him everything was fine and he does not have celiac. However when my Mom asked about their actual results... -
Boy did you just burst my bubble. Actually I have heard that before and my mom keeps telling me that too. Just like when she had my brother and me she had really quick labors. When I had my boys I was the same way so I figure I'll follow in the rest of her footsteps too. She is convinced I am in perimenopause (I am 37 1/2) which is possible I just...

I feel for you and hope you follow some of the other posters good suggestions. Good for you for following your instincts. You mentioned your mother has celiac. Does she maintain a gluten free diet? If not this would be a good time for you both to learn together.

I looked it up and it does look good. Can you make it gluten free?

My husbands father and stepmother were here for a visit and she is originally from Brazil. I made these for dinner the other night and they were a big hit. She even said they tasted just like she used to get in Brazil. I took this as a really big complement! She really doesn't have the space at her apartment in NYC to do much cooking, but wanted the...

ARCHIVED Umm, I Made The Betty Crocker gluten-free Choc Chip Cookies...
Roda replied to lischro's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Yep, tried them with coconut oil and they tasted great. They still were a little flat but I think it was because it was melted. -
My mom takes a low dose of prozac for her hot flashes. She took hormones for sometime in her late 40's and continued them even though her doctor wanted her to stop. She felt the risk was worth it because she had a hard time functioning. She hasn't taken them in years but still suffers the hotflashes and she is almost 64. Boy, I'm not looking forward to...

I have been busy canning and just finished making two batches of orange marmalade. I had two jars not seal so I went on a venture to find something to make. This is a regular recipe that I substituted my gluten free flour blend (sorghum, tapioca and cornstarch) and added 3/4 teaspoon xanthan gum. Proceded with the recipe as stated except omitted the nuts...

It could be caused from a problem from the gallbladder/pancreas. You don't always have to have a gall stones, pain and a "classical gallbladder attack" to have problems with it. It can simply not function properly by not contracting and releasing enough bile. I don't have bad pain, just a pulling/pinching sensation in my right upper abdomen. I notice...

I've been taking them for awhile since I am not digesting fats. I got the ones with just the pancreatic enzymes not the stomach acid because I have an ulcer. I do believe they have helped. I ran out of them for a few days (was waiting on some in the mail) and I was miserable again. I was taking them according to the bottle and they helped my sypmtoms...

ARCHIVED Anyone Not Have Kids And Not Work Too?
Roda replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was asked by a friend of my dads what I do for a living once and I told him not much. My dad got so mad at me because he thought I was being rude. Maybe I was, but I didn't really want to discuss it at the time (and yes I was full time employed). We are much more than our profession. I agree even if someone does not work outside of the home, women are... -
ARCHIVED Dr Wants More Mammogram Films
Roda replied to Skylark's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
It's hard not to think the worst. There are alot of reasons for follow up films. Women who have dense breast tissue are harder to see things on a mammogram. Tissue can be superimposed and can give the appearance of something abnormal. Other benign findings can be cysts, fibroadenomas and benign calcifications just to name a few. The ultrasound will help... -
I take immodium and gax ex gel cap all the time both are gluten free. I used to eat tums from their website here is what they say Open Original Shared Link

For me it doesn't matter what kind of soda I drink diet or regular they all will bother me. I don't tolerate the carbonation very well. I do splurge though and drink a sprite every now and then.

ARCHIVED Avocado & Floating Stools
Roda replied to jasonD2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Do you eat any other foods that may have a high fat content? Avocados bother me as well, but I am not digesting fats at all these days and have been having issues since Jan. It really does not matter what I eat, good fats or bad fats, I'm miserable. Not to be gross, but is the stool bulky, foul smelling or have visible fat floating? These can all be signs... -
ARCHIVED Convincing Husband To Get Tested.
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
He is alright eating most meals gluten free at home since we both feel it is easier to make things everyone can eat. All of my baked goods are gluten free. The only things in the house he eats that are not are bread, crackers, cereal and pasta. Occasionally he will buy doughnuts from the bakery. He eats most of this stuff for breakfast when I am at work...
