Bumping up this thread again. I quit doing th diet and exercising around Feb. because of some issues I have been having. I'm managing them for now so I am going to start this back up in the morning. I've gotten so discusted with myself lately on how I look. I'm no heavier than when I started this last year, but still need to get that weight off. I'm...

ARCHIVED Birkett Mills
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It never dawned on me to do that with the cream of buckwheat. Thanks for the tip! I bought a small bag of buckwheat groats by Eden Organic that I thought I could grind. I don't know though if my little coffee grinder will tolerate those. I don't know if the other products were a problem for sure or not, but I am trying anything right now. -
ARCHIVED Birkett Mills
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have found the cream of buckwheat in some stores locally but I don't have any interest it that. I did ask two of the places if they could order the flour and groats and they said no. I'm waiting to hear back from EarthFare to see if they can order. If I don't get anywhere I may take you up on that offer. I'll let you know. -
ARCHIVED What Thyroid Tests Should We Order? & Another Disappointing Dr.
Roda replied to Tidings's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Some of your symptoms almost sound like hyperthyroid. Here is a link to the antibody tests. Open Original Shared Link In addition to those you should have a TSH, free T3 and free T4. I have even heard of ordering reverse T3 and T4 tests but have never encountered these. I have only had the antibody tests once back in 2000 that showed I had hashimotos disease... -
ARCHIVED Having Second Thoughts.... And I Cheated Today....
Roda replied to crampy girl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This is very much a personal choice but, you could have the EGD with biopsy done. It might give you some answers. It is possible to have negative blood work and still have a positive biopsy. I've had two and I didn't have any problems or complications from either. I also had a colonoscopy done (at age 35) for occult blood. I'm glad I did because they... -
I can tell when my boys have a strep infection by their behavior. My youngest (almost 6) is on an antibiotic right now for strep. He had a slight sore throat about 5 days before I took him to the ped and the day I took him the only thing that was off was his "melt down" he had had that morning. Low and behold he had strep. He is on day 8 of his antibiotic...

ARCHIVED Schar Pasta?
Roda replied to allygirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't think I react, but I didn't like the schar pasta. -
I don't know if I am labled refractory or not. I have underwent so many tests since Feb. and the only thing the GI doc can come up with is that my celiac is causing my symptoms. All my symptoms went away and I was good until Jan. of this year. The only blood test that is positive is the IgG gliadin antibody, everything else is normal levels. I had a...

ARCHIVED Rudi's
Roda replied to modiddly16's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I really liked the flavor, but found it to be more dry than the Udi's. I let it dry out and will use it for bread crumbs. -
I'm going to try this again tonight but with a different flour blend. I hope it turns out as well. Good luck!

ARCHIVED Soy-Yer Dough Offers Wheat Free Modeling Compound for Kids - Invention & Technology News
Roda replied to Scott Adams's topic in Publications & Publicity
I have some of this and it smells really good. It is a little gooey when it warms up though. Also when not used for awhile it forms crystals. Overall though we are glad to have something we can play together with. -
I would definately ask the ped to check him for diabetes. Better safe than sorry. Hope you find some answers soon.

ARCHIVED Sand In The Sandbox
Roda replied to precious831's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would guess that the sand itself is gluten free. However, there is no telling what is mixed in with it from the outside or from hands. Unless he put some in his mouth, and many kids do (mine tried to eat it), then I would wash his hands really good and change his clothes after he is done playing in it if there is a concern. -
ARCHIVED Healthy, Low Gi, Gluten-Free Dairy-Free Foods
Roda replied to CGally81's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Try quiona or buckwheat, both would be goods choices. I feel satisifed when I eat both. One of my favorite things is the red quinoa and I make quinoa and black beans (instead of rice and beans). Fills me up and is good too. -
ARCHIVED Birkett Mills
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well, I was going to place an order until I saw how much they charged for shipping! It doesn't seem to matter if you have a big or small order they charge the same flat shipping of $19.95 and $7.00 handling ($26.95 total), OUCH. I was looking on another site to order organic/gluten free for other flours and I had a total weight of 11+ lbs and over $60.... -
I made waffles again today using almond milk and they were wonderful. I can find it locally now at Food City and Walmart for about $3.80 ish a box.

ARCHIVED What Part Of Plain Don't You Understand?
Roda replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Annoying yes! I went to a restaruant and ordered steamed asparagus. I told the waiter that I wanted it plain with absoutly nothing on it. Well, it came out with parsley flakes sprinkled all over it. Yes I know parsley is fine, but like you said "what part of plain don't you understand!" I started to eat it and found some unidentified brown little chunky... -

ARCHIVED Cross Contamination From Gluten Free Oats?
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes this was what I was wondering about the CC from aveenin. I guess I didn't explain myself well. I just don't know what to do with all of the stuff I have around. I'm also not looking forward to the cost of replacing it all either. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Get A Capsule Endoscopy?
Roda replied to jasonD2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have not had had the capsule endoscopy, but I did just have a CT enterography exam of the bowel. They both can give good info but each has it's advantages/disadvantages. -
I'll agree that I have made better tasting stuff. That said, I made waffles out of it and they were really good! I have tried to follow other recipes for them and have failed. I like the convenience of the stuff, especially if the husband needs to make something in a hurry. He isn't into mixing all of the different flours. I may keep it around just to...

ARCHIVED Cross Contamination From Gluten Free Oats?
Roda replied to Roda's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for the input. My question is not if I could have a problem with gluten free oats, as I already know that I do. Rather, could the potential cross contamination from the gluten free oats with other gluten free grains cause problems especially with the antibodies? Bob's does process the gluten free stuff in a dedicated facility so it would stand... -
ARCHIVED Cross Contamination From Gluten Free Oats?
Roda posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I react badly to certified gluten free oats. I get severe abdominal pain, cramping, bloating, heartburn, bowel troubles and rash on my back side. I do use alot of Bob's products and Bob's does process gluten free oats. If these, and probably are, are processed in the same facility as the other gluten free grains, could the cross contamination in sensitive...
