  1. Hi Guys, So there's a lively debate going on with some friends over on the Facebooks regarding a recent study that claims to to have shown that Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity doesn't actually exist. I see a lot of flaws in this study, and we've been bouncing back and forth the debate between scientific proof and "feeling" better. Anyway, here are links...
  2. sorry about the photos, wasn't quite sure how to post them so they didn't appear in the rest of my flckr feed... In any case, yes, it does look a lot like ringworm, but not like any I've had before. It's starting to heal up now (been two weeks since the incident) and looking like a round red scaly patch. But yes, it did have some small fluid filled bumps...
  3. Morning, So here are some photos of the rash as it is right now. This is on my right elbow. My left elbow has a dry patch the same size and same spot, but hasn't gotten all red an nasty, maybe cause I haven't scratched at it as much. In any case, it's still quite possible this is just tinea, however, after looking at many photos of different stages of...
  4. Hi all Well, this is the first time I'm posting in the DH forum. I've always been very glad to have avoided DH as a symptom. I remember when my mom first got it when she did her gluten challenge before getting biopsied (she told me, "It's not worth it!) Anyway, long story short, I got glutened a couple weeks ago. Not just cross-contamination but actually...
  5. Another vote for Green's, it's supposed to be like a porter I think, though I found it was pretty light tasting (I've only had it once. The Glutenberg red ale if you can find it (It's made in Montreal but they're exporting to a lot of places in the US now) is also a darker beer and pretty tasty, though isn't what you'd call a stout/porter, just a darker red...
  6. I have Celiac Disease. My mother has it, my only sister has it, an aunt and uncle on my mom's side and another aunt and uncle on my dad's side has it. No, I have never been officially diagnosed. Blood tests all came back negative, but then again so did my sister's whose Celiac was confirmed with biopsy. 5 years ago I decided to try gluten free for a few...
  7. It's my staple pasta. I just ate some a few minutes ago for lunch. No gluten, no soy, non-GMO too. I also find it holds together better than most rice pastas. Reheats well too.
  8. I usually buy big bags of jasmine and basmati rice (if I only bough Lundberg I'd be broke pretty fast), and haven't had any issues with cross-contamination, but I do know that i can't eat too much at once. I always give it a good rinsing first, though Ironically enough, I have a lot of trouble with brown/whole grain rice. The fibre might make it healthier...
  9. Oy, this sounds familiarish. I had a terrible time trying to figure out what was causing my dizziness/nausea a couple years ago, convinced it was something up with my inner ear, did a slew of tests with the ENT which all came back normal. His conclusion: "There's nothing wrong with your ear.... Maybe you should see a neurologist." Great. So I looked at diet...
  10. Ditto on GottaSki. I tested negative on the antibody panel, but felt a million times better gluten free. Celiac runs on both sides of my family, so I've always considered myself as having it. If you feel better not eating most gluten, then you will likely feel a lot better not eating any at all. If you're seeing your doctor soon, then I'd talk to them about...
  11. Just wanted to say that it has now been 5 years since I decided to go gluten free. After months of bloating, weight loss, irritability, anxiety, feeling like crud after anything I ate, I decided that despite the negative blood tests I was sick of it! I told myself I'd try eating gluten-free for a few weeks and see what happened. By the end of week 1 I was...
  12. "I can't eat that. It will make me sick" is more than enough of a response. Tuna should only be eaten on rare occasions anyway (mercury, over-fishing, etc etc). If you can handle any fish, salmon or trout or something is a better alternative. But that's beside the point. You know what you can/cannot eat, and being stuck in bed doesn't change any of that...
  13. Hey guys, The endoscopy that showed the gastritis inflammation was looong after going gluten-free (5 years today!). I just have no idea what caused it in the first place, or if the pain I keep getting is it coming back, for whatever reason. I've been feeling better the past few days, so fingers crossed I've gotten past whatever it was. I am going to...
  14. Hi all, I was going to revive an old thread from the dead, but those often get overlooked, so if you want the background story, take a look here https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/99003-gastritis/?hl=gastritis I had an endoscopy fall 2012 and they did see some mild gastritis. I saw a GI once last January, but it was kind of useless as he didn't...
  15. If you want something more like a cream sauce, you can actually make a decent alfredo with coconut milk (with lots of garlic and some nutritional yeast). It does take more attention than throwing it in the pot, though. What about curry? You can make a big pot of biriyani, just cook up the veggies and curry and stuff, then add in pre-cooked basmati rice...
  16. If the only thing I had to worry about was gluten, I'd be quite happy. Instead, soy is the bane of my existence, dairy (while the least of my worries) is a no no, eggs make me all shaky, my gut just doesn't want to deal with things that should be good for me like quinoa and brown rice, or too much of anything at once, really. I'm kind of in the same boat...
  17. Oh man, I think I need one of those little guys. I hate having to use the microwave at work every day. If you hubby wants anything gluteny to eat in the first place, he should be the one making it and cleaning up, not you. Just sayin. Good luck with your gluten-free kitchen!
  18. The only utencils that can be used for both gluten/gluten free is stainless steel, and nothing that has little bits where stuff can hide and not get cleaned properly. If you're using wood or any kind of plastic/silicone, they need to be dedicated gluten free. I love wood, but yeah, they don't have near as long a life as I'd like. Metal all the way for...
  19. I also have/had mild gastritis (it showed up on my endoscopy a year and a half ago after experiencing just such a pain). It still flares up on occasion. On top of Celiac, I'm also intolerant to dairy and soy, can't handle eggs on their own, avoid whole quinoa (that cause the horrid pain the first place), and random things that should be good for you (whole...
  20. ooh man... I have had a few "I was afraid you fell in" epic long sits on public cans before. It's not so much embarrassing that others might hear/know etc, but that you've left your friend/significant other waiting for god-knows how long. Also, my bathroom is in the basement of my apartment, and if you have to go in the middle of the night in the middle of...
  21. Once it's done, it's done and you just have to tough it out, unfortunately. In the future, if you're going on vacation and going to be staying in one place the whole time, it might be worth looking into accommodations with access to a kitchen, either a suite with a kitchen/ette or somewhere you can do your own cooking. That way you're not relying on other...
  22. Oh, this is perfect. sorry I didn't see it when the OP first started the thread. I've been dealing with the horrible ups/downs lately too, anxiety coming out of nowhere, barely able to haul myself out of bed. Nothing I can really pin on a glutening or anything else, or even the winter weather. I've also been getting headaches, tingly fingers/face, a lot...
  23. as long as Monsanto doesn't find out that the non-GMO field ended up with one of their patented seeds in it... (don't get me started...) Anyway, the jury is still out on the health effects of GMOs, but I only buy non-GMO corn products where I can manage it. I am against the huge agri-business companies (ie: Monsanto) and their practices. If farmers want...
  24. Jealous. I have super fine hair, and while it doesn't come out in clumps, it definitely doesn't like to stay in my head. It's longer than it's been in ages, cause I let it grow (and now have to deal with more tangles), but thin (and thinning hair) is just part of my genetic inheritance. I think if it was a gluten problem for me, I'd have twice as much hair...
  25. I found chickpea miso!! It was easier to find than the masa harina I took 2 weeks to hunt down. Turns out there's a local operation (Tradition Miso) in Ontario that makes organic miso, and makes a chickpea one as well. I had miso soup for breakfast this morning! Tastes a bit more like hummus than regular miso, but it's pretty good. Dissolves easily (a bit...
