  2. Welcome Missy! Make sure you read the Newbie 101 thread and ask any questions you may have. The diagnosis process for Celiac Disease can be frustrating - yet it sounds like you are aware of many of the often dismissed symptoms. Here are the necessary tests - bring a list - just in case your doc is not up to speed.... Total Serum IgA tTG - IgA...
  3. Boo - Bingo should be fun - stopped going myself several years ago as it was after the bewitching hour - have to add that back into the calendar Hoping you are feeling better VERY soon! Until then - drink lots of water.

  5. Hello from another 10 -- seems that those of us that went undiagnosed for decades have to do a little more work than the average celiac...I've been grain and many other things free for over eighteen months and so far I have only managed a touch of white rice -- and I mean just a bite -- tried a small serving awhile back and didn't work well. Good news...
  6. Yes I exercise as much as possible - wasn't able to do much until November when I removed high histamine and histamine inducing foods. Started with walking - then added skiing back in - then got back on my bike (haven't gotten far on bike as my shoulders are still very fussy) - so I'm sticking mostly with biped rather than bicycle for now - have even been...
  7. Happy Re-Birthday to YOU Swimming and playing with new friends - I can't think of a better celebration - except them singing to you too! So happy for you dear friend - you deserve this and many more wonderful moments to come - You DID IT! Can't wait to see photo Passed a little milestone of my own today - first midterm in a couple decades and...
  8. Great job -- welcome to your new gluten free life! It takes some work - but I know you'll do just fine. Let us know if you have questions during your transition or you just need to vent a bit.
  9. In answer to the topic question: Lifesaving for those with Celiac Disease and some that are labeled Non Celiac Gluten Intolerant. For all others removing gluten can be beneficial even if not medically required.
  10. Welcome DS! I've got two sons 18 and 19 that eat out all the time -- if it is a restaurant that they trust they order - if it is a new place they bring their food along. They have been gluten-free for over three years and both have found it helps them interact with girls -- teen girls - for good or bad believe eating gluten-free will help them lose...
  11. I'd like to offer those doctors the option to eat just a little bit of crushed glass -- really it is okay as long as they only do it once in a while for a very special treat
  12. Shroomie is right...keep trying things that are already broken down -- applesauce and smoothies...I put everything in the blender for a very long time -- here is a good giggle to go along with your smoothies... And if mashed potato failed...try mashed sweet potato!
  13. No doubts here - welcome to the club! The transition to gluten-free living can be tough - read all you can -- as Mushroom mentioned - start with the Newbie 101 thread and ask questions - it really is the best was to speed the transition period along. Don't remove gluten until you have seen GI and you are certain you have had all necessary tests - this...
  14. In my opinion it is rare to cause more damage, rather than the rule if you are being as gluten-free as possible - this can take time to learn all the hidden sources of gluten. Think of this - there are over 50,000 members on this forum - most of which have come here to learn and are now off living very full gluten-free lives. Are there others with serious...
  15. I think it is reasonable to be worried - this is all new to you. It sounds like you did a great job and the salad was safe - for me the longer I was gluten-free the more sensitive I became to CC. This is common. For now...continue doing what you are doing...you will settle a bit as time passes - be good to yourself
  16. A month is crazy -- try calling the doctor's office after a week -- my path is usually back within that time period. Make sure you ask for written copies of both the doctor's procedure report and the pathology report!
  17. That is wonderful news -- thank you for sharing
  18. I think it very wise to remove all gluten at this point -- three months is good - six is better to monitor for symptom improvement and re-test -- the tTG IgG should go down once gluten has been removed -- this can take time. All of my celiac antibodies were reduced at three months, but weren't at their lowest levels until six months gluten-free. Here...
  19. I agree with Karen's info, but have no direct experience with enterolab. I believe our doctors can run all the tests necessary -- often they just don't order the correct ones. Removing gluten or eating gluten light prior to celiac antibody tests can affect the results -- especially in children that don't always test strong possitive anyway. If...
  20. I am steadily improving as well - fun to see the puzzled expression on my optomitrist's face! At my worst my contacts were 3.75 for both eyes - currently 3.00 & 3.25. Fun stuff Also of note - when I have been at my worst even after removing gluten I would get temporarily blurry vision and very dry eyes - I believe that to have been caused by...
  21. Mushroom said it all perfectly as usual. Welcome to the forum...hang in there -- I had no clue what Celiac Disease was four short years ago -- four years ago today is in fact the first day I ever heard of Celiac Disease or tTG-IgA -- boy have I learned a lot since then. Read all you can and ask any questions you have...it really does help a tough...
  22. So sorry Brandy....no way to say anything but this sucks...but I do know it will get better. Given time he'll become educated -- the changes are tough enough without the added stress of the dual home. They are his kids too and when he realizes this is a health issue, not a weight issue it will help. Here is hoping that process moves along quickly -...
  23. Correct....in my opinion. There are a few things that can temporarily raise tTG, but I have yet to find things other than celiac disease that falsely raised DGP - and I have done extensive pubmed searches along with asking each member that comes here with this question to ask their doctor for a reason besides Celiac Disease. To date no one's doc has...
