  1. Hello & Welcome First let me say NEVER cheat or it will become a habit. You will never get better health by cheating. When you get on to this gluten-free diet -down the road that would be a good time to talk to the owners/manager about adding some gluten-free items to the menu. It is a money making business! But first you have to learn yourself......
  2. Very Good advice! I bet you are finding new info everyday. It is amazing how gluten-free things change so much. One thing I'll throw is : what is gluten-free today may not be gluten-free tommorrow. Become a label reader........companies will change ingredients to save a penney in the blink of an eye...... Hope you are feeling better... blessings mamaw
  3. I agree Applebees is not celiac friendly. The grilled chicken is flash frozen & the ice glaze has gluten. The garlic sauce definately is not gluten-free. Most sport / bar type eateries are not celiac friendly. a few that are are Longhorn Steakhouse, outback, Carrarbas, chili's Texas Roashouse. Most of these places will cook a steak on a piece of...
  4. Hello & Welcome To answer your question yes, emotional issues can play a part in your recovery... Since you are very new to the lifestyle it is hard to say if its just your body trying to adapt to the new gluten-free foods & withdrawal . It's prpbably some of both. It is common to have ups & downs in the healing process. And it does take...
  5. newgfcali Kudos to you... Thanks for the florida site I've bookmarked it! happy healing blessings mamaw
  6. I'm with Roda. Sorry about the dietician. I've found that if a person isn't living with celiac they are not the most informative people to help navigate the gluten-free lifestyle. Same thing happened to me Roda..... Now I have doctors , hospital dieticians refer patients to me for help. I offer my services but they make the bucks... Sometimes if one can...
  7. All of our bodies heal & mend in different ways & we all process foods in different ways. NOt everyone can do alot of proteins , sugars, certain flours safe or unsafe. This is something we each figure out over time. Many are sensitive to all kinds of things. I do believe in starting out with plain naked foods ie: meats, veggies, fruits but again...
  8. Hi I too react to almost everything on planet earth...Super sensitive fair skinned, red head, freckles, blue eyed! I don't use make-up anymore because I react even when its a mineral make-up. The product I use for just about everything is Miracle II.. You can google this product &read its many uses. I use it for bathing, shampoo, cleaning...
  9. Julie I think once you get started again it will all come back to you quickly. And hopefully the cooking blunders will never cross your path again!!!! You know one mistake & one learns for life!!!! good luck with that! You will do great just stick to the gluten-free lifestyle so you can be healthy & happy.... blessings mamaw
  10. rjh1017 Honestly many insurance 's will not pay for a dietician. And if they are no tliving the gluten-free lifestyle they are not much help. Once a person gets dx'd they need help finding foods that are good, mainstream gluten-free products, recipes, & dealing with cross-contact issues and I've never seen any dietician help with those issues. unless...
  11. Yes, it is very sad that people have to sometimes go through years &years of illness before they get answers that are correct. I think most of us have been there.... it is okay to go through a grieving process after all you are or have lost an important part of your being-- FOOD. What we all were taught as youngsters we now have to toss to the wind ...
  12. congrats---- do both go out to dinner & have a big gluten-free dessert as well! For me, I suggest a long vacation , eat out&,have all the desserts you want-- gluten free of course!!! Have GREAT PARTY!!! you deserve it blessings mamaw
  13. Hello& Welcome I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but you may not want to add gluten-free oats to your diet at this time. Your intestional tract is already under stress. Most will tell you (doctors) to stay away from gluten-free oats for at least ayear to give your body a chance to heal. Some people react to oats even after that time span...
  14. Hi Julie Welcome back---- has it been that long? Time sure does fly by... But I remeber you.... mamaw
  15. yes, we all know gluten-free isn't a poor man's lifestyle! But there are many mainstream foods that are gluten-free . If you are not aware of them send me a message & I'll fill you in.... I suggest taking a few extra bucks & buy in bulk.....make your own sweets. I can't mention the name but there is a big place that sells by the case & has free...
  16. Hi Lindsey Here's my take on your question. If you are close enough to the bride & groom I would just ask who will be catering the dinner buffet or sit-down. Then I would contact the catering service & ask what is being served. The bride & groom may also tell you....I would explain why you are asking. I know I ate before I went to a wedding...
  17. Be careful with all you mentioned plus, any plastics, toaster, hand mixer, scratched pots & pans, teflon ..wood cutting boards. no one can say how careful one needs to be. We all DO NOT react in the same way .... it will depend how sensitive each person is or will be! I find I'm more senesitive as times goes on where as others become less sensitive...
  18. Gary West Meats has several gluten-free meat sticks.... protein bars, Comfort Bars, Zing Bars, Pure-Fit bars are wonderful. Freeze-dried survival foods also just select the gluten-free varieties. Granola. hth
  19. `Udi's bread is wonderful. If you have a whole foods near by they have several breads in the bakery. We like this bread for grilled sandwiches. Some people like Schar breads. For mixes: a popular bread mix is Anna's Bread Mixes, Sisters three ( a new kid on the block) Has a good white gluten-free bread. Do you get Living Without? They have a very good...
  20. Oh Jason what are we going to do with you! Longhorn will grill a lovely steak on foil for us gluten-free people. You missed out again by not doing your homework ahead of time! Again the manager comes out & prepares a steak to your liking rare, medium or well. You must always preplan when you know the restaurant. I know that it may not always be the...
  21. I've been gluten-free for a long time now & I use PAN with no problems... do you react to any other type of corn products? Also it does take the human body time to heal itself. Then you may find that you are a very sensitive celiac. Maybe this will get better as time goes on but it isn't always the case.. You may want to stick to more plain simple foods...
  22. My vote is for a bread machine. Not everybody has time to mix up bread dough. I make bread from scratch as well but there are times when I don't have the time to spend measuring & mixing so other times I use the bread machine..... The best in many of celiac eyes is the Zojirushi.... it is a workhorse & worth every penny..... hth mamaw
  23. Mushroom gave good info. Also have you had your thyroid & blood sugar checked?
  24. Jason I'm glad your business lunch went well. You made a comment where six at your end of the table kinda stared at you when you were having a different dish than the others & you stated because of your food intolerances. I must say I don't think they were staring because you had an illness but because they were interseted in learning about celiac...
