  6. I'm sorry you feel you have to spend Thanksgiving alone .. It will get better as your understanding of celiac grows. Personally I would never stay home from visiting relatives or friends anytime. I always fix a plate of gluten-free & cart it with me. After all the interaction of loving friendships is what its all about, food is just part of the experience...
  7. Myself as well as many others react from Bob's Red Mill products...

  9. Hello In my humble opinion there is no way to clean the crevices in a bread maker, toaster or hand mixer vents. The same goes for rubber, plastic & scratched utensils pots & pans, skillets.Cutting boards as well. I've been gluten-free for years & I have replaced all of the above items. Piece by piece, little by little . I kept my gluten-free...
  10. There are several gluten-free flour blends that state they are a one to one meaning you just replace the reg. flour to the gluten-free blend.Ie: Jules flour blend: Meister's flour blend is wonderful , you just add more baking powder if the recipe calls for it. BetterBatter Flour blend; Domata living flour just to name a few.... Tom Sawyer is another.hth...
  11. Wow, is this a turning point for you! Congrats, congrats.... now your thinking on the positive side of being gluten-free! CONGRATS.... I agree that Pamela's is the best mix. If you like to bake Annalise Roberts has a wonderful cookbook called Baking CLassics. She even has a wedding cake, ice cream sandwiches & more. Enjoy your cupcakes!!!!! I'm so...
  12. Tinkyada is good but we think BiAglut is excellent. One can't tell the difference form a wheat pasta. The GLuten Free Trading Company carries it as well as many other places. It is imported from Italy. Also it is pricey but I order directly by te case......cheaper that way. mamaw
  13. You are good to go. Argo baking powder is gluten-free..... a blend of gluten-free flour is better than plain rice flour.... I believe Annalise Roberts has a carrot cake recipe on her site.

  15. Regular breadmakers usually have just one paddle for starters. Some of the newer ones now make a normal loaf of bread ie: BreadmakerII. For gluten free bread one needs a workhorse of a motor , one that will not blow-up after a few uses. I love the zojrushi & it makes wonderful gluten-free bread. It is worth every penny. It is an investment & something...
  16. Betterbatter flour is one of the tops in gluten-free flour blends. plus recipes galore for using the flour. I also use a couple others but Jules is at the bottom of the top of the line flour blends. there are about 6-7 top of the line blends.......
  17. You are on the right path ask questions lots of questions. I would ask for every brand of item they will be using. First if turkey is the meat , no stuffing of the bird. Stuffing must be baked separately. It you feel like you are putting the family out , I would suggest going to a Boston Market & buying yourself a meal & taking it with you. Some...
  18. Hi Nancy I'm not sure if you area white bread eater or a more earthly type of bread eater . I'll guess & pick white? Am I correct? Again, its better to focus on wha tis good gluten-free that you can swallow rather then dwell on the no no's. Pamela's has a good bread mix. whole foods has gluten-free breads that will work . I love their sun-dried garlic...
  19. Hi Nancy Thanks for your post. I too am a senior in years but young at heart!!!! I'm not surprised at your doctors response or lack of. Most still today do not understand celiac or even more gluten sensitivity. There are more gluten sensitive in the world than celiac. It is very sad..... I have a brother who at age 68 , never been sick in his life but...
  20. If they don't stuff the bird you could have some turkey or ham. If a bird is being served make yourself a small dish of stuffing to heat up. Celiac specialies has a very good stuffin mix & simple( Iuse less liquid). You can make your own gravy by boiling some either chicken or turkey parts with spices, onions, celery, carrots , strain broth & thicken...
  21. Have you been dx'd celiac? I'm confused why you are on the gluten-free diet in the first place if you plan on staying on it until Jan 2010? I'm guessing maybe you found reasons to try the gluten-free diet. It takes time to heal the intestinal tract so I would have to say four weeks is a very short period of time to expect complete healing. We had a doctor...
  22. I Love my zojrushi. It makes a normal loaf of bread , is a workhorse that can handle a gluten-free dough, 2 paddles for better mixing. .hth mamaw
  23. Here are a couple of other deli meat brands that are gluten-free. Boar's head & Dietz & Watson.
  24. If you are asking on how to prepare for recovery at home here are a few suggestions. Just making & freezing gluten free meals now so all one needs to do is reheat them. Bake or buy some frozen items ie:Amy's mac & cheese, Kettle Cusine has very good soups, Joan's gluten-free great bakes has excellent bagles, eng. muffins & pan pizzas. Conte's...
  25. Hi Nanc Some people who are very sensitive find it helps alot to eat a basic food group for a week or two then add in another food to make their gluten-free journey go a bit easy on their bodies. When I started & then my daughter & grandkids we all went fairly slow. It just helped our intestinal tract be less stressed. I tend to lean on alternative...
