  1. You have a great outlook regarding celiac. Kudos! I have always been up front with my illness. I really don't care what others think as long as I'm feeling better with the lifestyle.Families are the worst usually to convince to get tested! There are four of us but should be four more! They just don't get it. One even has intestinal cancer from celiac &...
  2. Hello & welcome I've been gluten-free for a long time so here is my suggestion. Make a couple of dishes that are gluten-free so you have something to eat & to share. Some families are very understanding & interested , others could care less & will think you are a space alien! Either way don't let it get to you. It all is very common. They...
  3. Thanks for giving us the story. I honestly think you should go for testing so that if you do have an intolerance or celiac that your parents will understand or I hope they would try to understand. It sounds like no one trusts each other & that is sad. For years people thought my daughter had a eating disorder but I took her to the doctor & that...
  4. Here's my two cents! I make both bread machine & oven gluten-free breads. I love my Zo & it has never failed me. I don't always have the time to make from scratch bread so the Zo is a lifesaver for me. I think if you work & have a family finding time to bake isn't always easy. For these times I think the bread machine. If you love to bake ...
  5. Any person who forces another against their will is neither a friend or a person I would want to deal with--- family included. This is a crime & is punishble by law. Any adult should be able to understand . No one would ever force me in to anything I did not want to do. I would kick, fight & scream until I had no breath left in me. I know this...
  6. What a wonderful day! Yes, keep your hubby, the good ones are hard to find. I have a great one too!
  7. My vote also goes to kitchenaid for a stand mixer & they also have a powerful hand mixer! For gluten-free breads I always use the stand mixer. I love both!
  8. How wonderful.

    ARCHIVED Taco Bell

I have been reading several posts on this site that people are believing taco bell hard tacos are safe & gluten-free. I went to the website again to recheck the meat ingredients for their tacos. The seasoned beef for tacos contain oats. Not certified gluten-free oats so tacos are not safe for the gluten-free diet. The seasoned meat used to contain...
  11. Strawberrynin & all others I just went to the Taco Bell site once again to recheck . The tacos are not safe.... The taco meat contains oats not gluten-free certified oats just oats! NOT gluten-free..... At one time the meat had wheat in it then they changed it to oats. Again not certified gluten-free oats so again tacos are not gluten-free..... This...
  12. Wal Mart brand is also gluten-free. I would not use Kikoman , it was my favorite years ago. It is not worth the risk . I don't think KM tests for gluten to see what the ppm is. These products are different in other countries. Processing for some things in Canada can be okay there but not in the US & vice versa..
  13. Sweet Sin Bakery in bethesda, maryland is excellent. If you enjoy baking Annalise Roberts Baking Classics Cookbook is one of the best! Wonderful cake recipe plus more! Lots og great gluten-free foods available through mailorder. It you are looking for something special just me know & I will point you to the best of the best! I test market gluten...
  14. I can't believe that some of you are having trouble making a grilled cheese. I use either Whole Foods white or else the sun dried tomato/ garlic bread. If frozen I let it set out a bit or I have done it frozen but it takes longer. I use three cheeses, provolone, smoked gouda, & scamorrizi. I've made these from day one gluten-free... never had a failure...
  15. disability is determined by all ills not just part of a problem. The total picture is studied. I'm fairly sure that all your ills are not from celiac. As I said it usually takes a couple of denials before getting approved.... And you will not know what the doctor actually wrote on his report they can tell you anything........getting disability is not always...
  16. Hey Ken Isn't it funny how things have changed since the 60"s... Believe me I laughed long & hard over your statement... Is that statement the reason your wife married you???? I loved the old 60's but the age 60's sucks..... I'll be watching this post to see if you get hired!!!! You would have to leave the sun & sand!!! blessings mamaw
  17. Hello & welcome I just wanted to say welcome. Cleveland Clinic should be able to help you. Are you from the Cleveland area? There are several wonderful groups in Ohio... I'm from Western Pa.... LOts of good gluten-free shopping as well.... blessings mamaw
  18. My suggestion is to hire KenLove from this post & have him spend a month teaching your mates!!!! Honestly, When I go away I tell the kids to tell my soul mate where the extra toilet paper is!!!!He has no idea about the place he calls home....... I think this is harder for men as they seem to think if they don't think about it it will go away. Out...
  19. Hi Here are a couple of places to get you started on freebies. Mary's Gone Crackers, Pamela's, AMy's, Ener-G, Goldbaum's, pure fit, zing bars. Our group is a gluten free group that way everyone who is following the gluten-free diet can attend & also buy from the mini coop.....Yes, they still can come to a celiac meeting but that type usually just...
  20. When I get bread I'm going to freeze I slice it if not already sliced, then I put a piece of paper between the slcies . This makes for easy seperation . If not you usually will have to use a knife & hammer to get it seperated!!!!! You can thrw it in the fridge or I just nuke it for a few seconds to soften it up a bit, then toast or if making a sandwich...
  21. Fairbanks, we loved that town! We spent three months in Alaska. Love it Love it. Are you from ALaska or a college transplant? We met a girl who worked for the university. Sveta Yamin. DO you know her? mamaw
  22. Hello I'm not sure what rice krispies you are referring to but Kellogg's rice krispies are not gluten-free. They contain malt which is not gluten-free. Nature path & I think envirokids & kinnickinnick have safe rice krispies. Ther could be more brands that are gluten-free.... Not all candy is gluten-free as well. truffles can contain gluten as...
  23. Lets face it the only real fix is the gluten-free lifestyle for life....I think we all wish there was a real fix but as time rolls on we know the gluten-free diet is the only fix.I think that may be a hard choice to swallow for some...
  24. I guess the rule of thumb is 3 to 6 months . I think that would give you a good overview. My hubby did three months & felt awful after going back on gluten foods. BUt he has no symptoms as far as testing goes. He does know he is not so sluggish when being gluten-free. Also watch for hidden gluten such as products containing malt & soy sauce. LaChoy...
  25. Hi You could be part of my family! Many of the same issues & illness with family members.... How long will it take on a gluten-free diet to feel better. That is a question I'm sure many would like to have an answer too as well. Some people get instant results while others plug away a this for a year or two...I know this isn't the answer you would have...
