  1. Hi Mandy I'm so glad you have a supportative family. That is a BIG plus...they may not get it right all the time but it is great that they are trying.... AMazon has tons of gluten-free products & reasonable to ship. Many have free shipping. Cakes! Pamela's has two cake mixes that are very good. Betty Crocker has just come out with gluten-free mixes...
  2. Hi You are fourtunate to have access to so much help........Newspaper , radio, local TV & sending out flyers to doctors & hospitals help to get the word out. Both the CSA & GIG have laws & rules so each group should be abiding by them. It sounds like that may not be happening! I choose not to join any group & stay independent....again...
  3. The other two posters gave some good ideas. I just wanted to mention that if you contact the hotel & let them know about celiac they usually have a micro & fridge available for these reasons. When booking I always ask & have been told no but I call & speak to the manager & explain that this is under the disability act & I get one of...
  4. Okay so you have had testing completed. That was not stated in the first post. I do agree that doctors are not up on celiac or gluten intolerance. But now days people thinks this is a fad diet & it truly is not. We old timers must defend why or the reason for being gluten-free.There is a reason why we are so strict. In your first post you also stated...
  5. Why not get testing done before putting yourself through a trial? Plus no one should be starving on a gluten-free diet. That statement makes me think you do not understand gluten-free. I'm a believer that gluten can not be digested by any human but there are other issues that may be your problem . I think you should investigate through a medical check-up...
  6. My two cents If they are porous, scratched throw them out. Plastic cutters are not expensive to replace. One can not bleach out gluten it is not like a bacteria.....hth
  7. Hello It is great you wish to start a gluten-free group. I did just that about a year & half ago. Here are a few questions that is not clear to me. Is your new group part of the CSA or the GIG or neither? If there is already two groups within traveling distance will another draw people? I don't mean to discourage you but to give help on your journey...
  8. Thank you for a wonderful story that can be felt by many. Very inspiring. I certainly can relate ...it is very sad that most healthy people just don't understand how managing everyday life can be so trying & time consuming. blessings mamaw
  9. Hi Mandy sorry you are having a hard time of it. I'm senior citzen status but I can give you some junk food tips! Two kids are gluten-free in my family. One was only 2 when they started the gluten-free diet. Glenny's, & envirokids makes rice krispy treats plus a couple more . Lays & doritos clearly mark gluten on their labels(Back Of Pkg). Popping...
  10. I too, need to eat a lot of protein which doesn't always happen! I'm not a protein bar fan but I have found a few. The comfort bar has 15 grams of protein & very good. The cherry vanilla is REALLY yummy. Pure Fit has 18 grams & Zing Bars has 13 grams of protein. There are many others but we have found these three to be our favorites.... Some (many...
  11. If its a hand mixer flour gets into the air vents & it is impossible to get it out. I also bought a new kitchenaid stand mixer. When anyone wants gluten goodies I go to the garage or on the porch to mix. Ken, is correct, flour lingers in the air for hours! It is not worth the risk....
  12. First off, accidents happen & people gluten themselves. Learn from the mistake & move on. Have you had bloodwork done? Being gluten free is a learning process with trial & error. No one learns all this in a day, week or even a year. I've been gluten-free for years & I learn everyday still. Some people get sick on a crumb & others are...
  13. Hello & Welcome ASk your doctor to run the celiac blood panel. If you have insurance you could do the DNA testing. Biospy is another choice. There are more gluten intolerant people in the world than true celiac but the outcome is the same. gluten-free Diet! You have many symptoms like me & others. Some do not care if they get the dx's in writing...
  14. Some toothpaste are to strong for me. I couldn't imagine using neem or tea tree oil in my mouth. It would be to strong for my mouth! I do use both externally..Maybe if you dilute the mouthwash more.....
  15. Many people show no signs of the disease while others a speck of gluten can send them to the ER. We all are different. Some see instant results with the gluten-free diet others it takes years to start ot feel better. Others have great success with being gluten-free for loads of many other issues. Not everyone on the gluten-free diet is celiac or gluten...
  16. If your pots & pans are of a porous coating & scratched ( teflon or any no-stick coating ) they need to be replaced. Stainless steel, ceramic are okay to scrub well. Sterilizing does nothing for getting rid of gluten. Gluten can hid is small cracks & cervices such as toaster, mixer, bread maker, plastic utensils, wooden cutting boards, plastic...
