ARCHIVED My Symptoms While Being Gluten Free
The Fluffy Assassin replied to Nadia2009's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Lactose intolerance is pretty hard to miss, as you are running to the bathroom within 20 minutes of eating the pizza (or lasagna or spaghetti, etc.) with explosive diarrhea which lasts for another 20 minutes. It's also completely taken care of with Lactaid, though you may have to take more than one. Casein intolerance/ sensitivity/ allergy is something I... -
Pyloric Stenosis, Raynaud's, And Celiac
The Fluffy Assassin replied to NoG4MeWV's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I also had pyloric stenosis corrected as a newborn. I don't think it's related to celiac disease, but anyway here's two of us. I believe that my mom was celiac; if yours is as well, then maybe there's the connection. Maybe we should ask Will Ferrell; he has the most famous pyloromyotomy scar (those of us born in the '60s have a gigantic scar from the operation... -
Then you're going to have to get tested, which comes in two phases. First a blood test, then an endoscopy of your small intestine. Then the doctor (look in the Yellow Pages for gastroenterologists) is probably going to tell your mother that, to save you from needless pain, and possibly to save your life, you need to be on a gluten-free diet. You can tell...

ARCHIVED In Need Of More Expert Thoughts Than My Own
The Fluffy Assassin replied to hannahp57's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'll try my best. It could be a peanut allergy, the symptoms of which are found here: Open Original Shared Link Most people find that symptoms from eating gluten can hit any time in the next three of four days. I would think that a week would be a long time, but am no expert. You may want to consider also giving up dairy. Many of us are lactose intolerant... -
ARCHIVED Need Help With Test Results
The Fluffy Assassin replied to shirleyujest's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sorry I can't address your test results, but as I've never been tested nor trained, I'd be less than no help. As to exercise, don't push too hard. Assuming that you're celiac, you have a lot of healing to do. I felt an upthrust of energy after giving up gluten a year and a half or so ago and started doing 10 minutes on an exercise bike and 20 pushups, every... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Sandwich Restaurant/cross Contamination Issues
The Fluffy Assassin replied to katrinacara's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
You could serve bread containing gluten, but if you're actually baking it from scratch on the premises, there would be flour in the air and cross-contamination would be absolutely certain. I think a more worthy and even fun goal would be to set up a gluten-free sandwich shop where nobody could tell that it's gluten-free. I find Gluten Free Pantry's Beth's... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Pie Crust

ARCHIVED Is It Gluten-intolerance?
The Fluffy Assassin replied to mott07's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Tough one. The biggest problem is that symptoms from eating gluten, whether you're celiac or intolerant, can take three to four days to show up. By then, you have no way to be sure whether the symptoms are from the gluten or from something else. You could of course go the other route and read the package insert for your epilepsy drug (or look it up at rxlist... -
ARCHIVED Could This Be Celiac?
The Fluffy Assassin replied to trishbella's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
At this stage, it might be better to continue trying to figure what might be the problem using a series of elimination diets. As you've already eliminated wheat, it would be comparatively easy to eliminate the other gluten sources (barley, barley malt, rye, possibly oats) and thus either rule in or rule out celiac disease. Further testing isn't likely to... -
ARCHIVED Traveling To Cannes
The Fluffy Assassin replied to jasonD2's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease

ARCHIVED Testing For Celiac's
The Fluffy Assassin replied to jo50mom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
As you no doubt know, to get the official diagnosis you have to keep eating gluten until the biopsy. However, there's nothing to stop you from just declaring yourself diagnosed and quitting gluten right away. I never even got to the blood test stage, so I'm either the best or the worst person to talk to depending on your point of view. You should probably... -
ARCHIVED Does This Sound Like Celiac?
The Fluffy Assassin replied to Toetoe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms

ARCHIVED Omg! I Can't Do This.. :(
The Fluffy Assassin replied to Vlo1980's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Breathe. Relax. Try your best, and try not to worry about it. Check your local health food stores for gluten-free frozen foods. Trader Joe's also has a good selection. The risk of cross-contamination is high, but I've done it and survived. Just do the best that you can. Read this message board for tips, and ask for help. People here are quick with helpful... -
Sorry, by whom are these symptoms being ignored--family, friends or doctors? If it's by doctors, you need to see different doctors. Is it a new lump on the head or has it always been there? As to thyroids, many celiacs also have thyroid problems. You should certainly get it checked and again, if doctors are ignoring it, get different doctors. As to...

ARCHIVED Celiac Disease? Not If It Is
The Fluffy Assassin replied to Doyle's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You need to see a doctor. If the doctor you're seeing has had you on Lortab for four years, then you need to think about seeing a different doctor. Here's the story on Lortab; it's the exact same material that's on the package insert, except it's large enough to read: Open Original Shared Link To see side effects, scroll down to the first sidebar on the... -
ARCHIVED Searching Firm Diagnoses Feel Miserable
The Fluffy Assassin replied to ksymonds84's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
As you already have a diagnosis, you should consider whether or not you've reached the "I will remember this" point of gluten misery such that you won't go into denial again and when you do reach it, cancel the appointment with Dr. Lewey and get the hell off gluten again. However, if you're committed to seeing Dr. Lewey, first call and see if you can possibly... -

ARCHIVED New Celiac - Help!
The Fluffy Assassin replied to Karrin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Some people think that corn can cause celiac-like damage to the intestine; I'm not sure. I have similar worries, because I have continuing symptoms (fortunately mild, but then so are my celiac symptoms) and am worried that I may have to eliminate corn. There's a forum towards the bottom of the home page called Other Food Intolerance and Leaky Gut Issues where... -
ARCHIVED I Feel Like I'm Nagging
The Fluffy Assassin replied to Roda's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
In the first place, have the boys been tested? There is either a 1 in 7 or a 1 in 10 chance that immediate family members of celiacs are also celiac. I'm assuming that they've been tested, but if they haven't that's the first priority. As to the lunch meat, just sit down with him and figure it out. If he wants to make sandwiches that way, you'll just have... -
ARCHIVED Diarrhoea And Fybogel
The Fluffy Assassin replied to thebigun's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My google fu indicates that Fybogel is a laxative, so that would be no. Imodium works well and is gluten-free. In the fairly short run (like when your tests are done), hopefully you'll be giving up gluten and your diarrhea/diarrhoea problem will be at an end. Best of luck and welcome, regardless. -
ARCHIVED New Gluten Free Ice Cream Sandwiches
The Fluffy Assassin replied to savvvyseller's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Great googly moogly they are sooo good! Worth the wait, worth the drive, worth the money. Kinda small, but so rich you won't complain about that. Recommended to the nth degree. -
ARCHIVED Bionaturae Organic Gluten Free Pasta
The Fluffy Assassin replied to Roda's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Many regular stores carry Bionaturae products, but not the gluten-free. I liked Bionaturae gluten-free the first few times I tried it, but then must have run into a couple of bad batches. Switched to Tinkyada and never went back. -
ARCHIVED Is It Possible To Get A Reaction By Breathing Wheat?
The Fluffy Assassin replied to MGoers37's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Is it possible to stay somewhere else (with family, say) for two weeks or so and see if you feel any better? I can't say definitively, but it makes sense that living next to a wheat field could lead to accidental ingestion. All I'm finding in Googleland is that oats can be cross-contaminated due to growing in the same field as or in an adjacent field to wheat... -
ARCHIVED New Celiac - Help!
The Fluffy Assassin replied to Karrin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It sounds like your first guess, that the sugar at your grandmother's house was cross-contaminated, is probably correct. If so, you should be feeling better again in a very few days. If you aren't, you'll need to look at other possible food sensitivities or intolerances or allergies. If you can possibly afford a visit to an allergist, that might be a useful...
