I say I have Celiac Disease. -
ARCHIVED Can A Celiac Individual Tolerate Gluten-Free Pasta, Even If It Is Wheat-Based?
RideAllWays replied to ammaestro's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I still wont eat anything made from wheat. I think the risk of CC is way too high. Even distilled alcohols from gluten containing grains that are supposed to have all the gluten removed I avoid..Maybe it's a bit too far but I just can't see wheat ever being safe under any circumstance. -
ARCHIVED Afraid Of Gaining Weight
RideAllWays replied to kim307's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm 5'1 and 100 lbs as well. I was 95 before diagnosed, then up to 110 (other health complications and starting college hehe, and yes I felt ginormous but apparently nobody noticed) but now that I have got this diet 100% figured out I am back down to my healthy 98-100 pounds. I think the trick is STAY AWAY FROM REPLACEMENTS. The breads and cookies are... -
ARCHIVED Christmas Presents. Ugh!
RideAllWays replied to Juliebove's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
This is a place to vent, and you are welcome to do that, but if you don't want people's suggestions then don't ask.. -
Well so far I feel fine, the shells were all intact and yah I guess the company is covering their butts because it also lists dairy, shellfish, and eggs under the "may contain". I'm paranoid now though...guess I won't eat them. I don't really see how it could get in through the shell and contaminate the nuts but it it was on the outside then cracking them...
-
Was given a bag of nuts still in the shells and didn't even think to read it (usually I am super overthetop careful), so I've been munching away happily and thought hm maybe I should check... "May Contain Wheat" SERIOUSLY???

ARCHIVED What's The Bread That's Inedible But Makes Good Stuffing?
RideAllWays replied to luvs2eat's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I use the nasty ener-g products for stuffing! The hot dog buns, the hamburger buns, and the bread. Make sure you use it pretty much when you open it because it quickly morphs into rock form, but the inedible products make fantastic stuffing. -
ARCHIVED Christmas Presents. Ugh!
RideAllWays replied to Juliebove's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Forgive me for this, but she sounds really spoiled.. It shouldn't matter what her "definition" of a present is.. The rolling dance bag sounds fantastic, and she does want one, and it IS thoughtful, and if she can't see that then she might need to learn a lesson. And even if she doesn't believe in Santa this year you could still do the naughty card and get... -
ARCHIVED Is There Any Safe Rice Cake For Us?
RideAllWays replied to gflooser's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
On the quaker site and the rice cake bags themselves, there is allergy information. It always states what is DOES contain and what it MAY contain. And all sources of gluten are listed, not just wheat. For example the cracker-jack flavour says CONTAINS BARLEY. The plain ones say MAY CONTAIN PEANUT. Since they are so good about labelling (and the fact... -
ARCHIVED Are Some A Little Ocd?
RideAllWays replied to realmaverick's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am semi-self-diagnosed (MD said go gluten-free, biopsy 7 months later showed villi that had "possibly been damaged in the past" (wtf?) so MD said assume Celiac..) ANYWAYS. At first I wasn't careful at all, until I started reading this forum. It helped a lot, learning what hidden sources and such, and that I needed separate pans, toaster, etc. To that... -
ARCHIVED Pots Pans And Dishes Sharing
RideAllWays replied to revenant's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I shared plates/bowls with my family when I was living at home, but I had my own pot, fry pan and cutting board, as well as wooden spoons and stuff the commonly touch gluten, like strainers. I cook in the same glassware as them without a problem, but I always scrub them before using them! -

ARCHIVED Lara Bars
RideAllWays replied to Rowena's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I live in Canada and can get them at most health food stores, superstore, and costco -
I miscarried at 16 weeks and had been gluten-free a year... So sorry for your losses, I understand how hard it is. I don't know if it would be gluten-related or if it just your body telling you you aren't ready/healthy enough yet. it's not fair, and shouldn't happen to anybody. hugs.

ARCHIVED Feeding "normal" People
RideAllWays replied to K8ling's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My boyfriend and I often have people over for dinner at our place, and it's always 100% gluten-free. Either people don't notice, or they are pleasantly surprised and ask for leftovers! All the ideas here are good, but really you can make any meal gluten-free so whatever you would have done in the past I'm sure you could tweak for "normal" people and yourself... -
ARCHIVED Baking For Someone With Celiac Disease
RideAllWays replied to clazzics's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
When I go home I use parchment paper on EVERYTHING. It goes on the pans, covers cutting boards, i roll dough between two sheets...it comes in super handy. (This is in addition to all the previous tips, those are all really important too) -
ARCHIVED How Clean Does The Grill Top Have To Be?
RideAllWays replied to Kay DH's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I would be nervous to try someplace like this who sounded like they just didn't want to bother. -
ARCHIVED New Member From Vancouver B.c.
RideAllWays replied to Detonica's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
The flour floating around in the air is going to be a problem, I'm very sorry to say..it gets everywhere and is so easy to ingest that way. BUT...It's fantastic news that you are a baker! Anything and everything can be made gluten-free with a little bit of tweaking, and with some practice gluten-free cooking is lots of fun. The dust mask might help... -
ARCHIVED Typical Weekly Menu?
RideAllWays replied to blondie1985's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
If you like to cook, then this disease can be... fun? (in the experimenting sense, not the symptoms..) at times. I think where it would get hard is if you are a "grab and go" kind of eater. I make sundays a cooking day... Breakfast: -cereal, toast, you can buy lots of fast gluten-free options, but it can get expensive and these items pack a lot... -
ARCHIVED The Rice Krispies Conundrum - To Eat Or Not To Eat
RideAllWays replied to Tragree's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

ARCHIVED Gluten? Dairy? Neither? Both?
RideAllWays replied to imsohungry's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
As for the dairy, there are million of alternatives.. Ice cream will now be RICE cream. Some brands are sooo delicious. I also like coconut ice cream (made with coconut milk). If you can tolerate soy you can have that too. Milk: Rice milk, almond milk (yum!), soy milk, you could just try lactose free milk (but you might still have a caseine problem... -
ARCHIVED Eating In College
RideAllWays replied to RachelisFacebook's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
You would be amazed what you can cook on a hot plate and in a toaster oven! I made stir-fries all the time and would take left overs, you could always get a mini fridge in your room and keep it stocked with veggies, you could eat tuna with rice cakes, nuts...lots! My roommate and I once made a leg of lamb in our toaster oven in residence haha! -
ARCHIVED Medical Marijuana For Symptom Control
RideAllWays replied to raisin's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I live in BC where weed is pretty much legal (it's not, but I have seen cops walk right pas people rolling joints in public), and there is never a shortage of pot. I don't smoke it anymore, because you never know where it is coming from. One time, after a horrible glutening, I decided to try cannabis tea because I don't like smoking, and it calmed my intestines...
