ARCHIVED Gluten-free Fast Foods?
RideAllWays replied to mama2two's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Ditto for having worked at McD's. Just don't do it..everything is all over everything, and I have yet to see a dedicated fryer (there is a steel divider but the oil passes through the back). I didn't even want to attempt making myself something to eat because there were crumbs everywhere from the buns. -
ARCHIVED Do You Have Friends Who Do Gluten-Free But Not Seriously?
RideAllWays replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ugh, my boyfriend's mom is like this, as well as being a 6'2 very loud and powerful woman, not someone to mess with. I HATE when she has to cook for me, because she thinks she knows exactly what she is doing, which she does not. She does eat EnviroKidz cereal and eat gluten-free crackers, but if she feels like bread and wants it, she'll eat it. She doesn... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Open House
RideAllWays replied to Cheryl-C's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You could make it BYOB, no dish necessary? Or even just tell people why.."Come experience a gluten-free Christmas" or something of the like. I'm sure friends would understand! -
ARCHIVED Lactaid Milk
RideAllWays replied to Jen H's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Keep in mind that Lactaid is lactose-free but not caseine-free..the protein could be the problem, not the sugar. -
ARCHIVED Cross Contamination: Reason To Worry This Much?
RideAllWays replied to Kimbalou's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you didn't have antibodies or villi damage would you even have a celiac diagnosis? -
ARCHIVED Betty Crocker In Canada?
RideAllWays replied to RideAllWays's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wrote a letter and signed an online petition, and my family lives close to the border (I live 4 hours away) so it is attainable, and I'm sure there's a place to order it online..but I would like the convenience of being able to pick it up at the store, as I'm sure many others would like. Not to mention the expense of shipping/handling can be high, and... -
ARCHIVED Ultra Sunlight Dish Soap
RideAllWays replied to Cypressmyst's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was going to say maybe an allergy too, especially if it has also happened with lotion..it could be the perfume. Also, what are the ingredients in the soap? How do you know it has gluten in it? It is a lot more likely that if it did contain gluten, you got sick from touching your mouth or eating off the dishes it had been soaked in. -
ARCHIVED Betty Crocker In Canada?
RideAllWays posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Has anybody found the gluten-free Betty Crocker mixes in Canada? Where? Also to those anywhere who buy them, are they more expensive than the regular products? Thanks! -
I think I payed 6.99, same as Kinnikinnick. Expensive, definitely a treat for a student not an every day staple.

ARCHIVED Sensitive To Pig Products?
RideAllWays replied to SoyBoy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My mom can't eat pig, she sometimes has bacon but regrets it after. Maybe you just don't tolerate it well? -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Baking: Tastes Funny!
RideAllWays replied to michayla's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I like Kinnikinnick mixes, but I find that making my own recipes works better. Once you start getting the hang of gluten-free baking it really becomes quite easy..i take any normal recipe and replace the flour with brown or white rice flour, add a tsp of xanthan gum and a tsp of potato starch. Works really well for muffins I find. I use gluten free pantry... -
ARCHIVED Hamburger Bun Emergency!
RideAllWays replied to Cheryl-C's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Fast Food French Fries
RideAllWays replied to MacieMay's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Nando's has dedicated fryers (and many meal options as well!) but the Peri-fries have HVP which MAY be wheat, but they put it on after so the oil isn't contaminated. I've never had a problem, I'm pretty sensitive. -
ARCHIVED Horses, Hay And Feed
RideAllWays replied to taweavmo3's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Forgot to add, good luck to YOU as well. If she gets bitten by the horsie bug you're gonna be a whole new type of mommy My parents are still hoping it's just a "phase" for me.. -
ARCHIVED Horses, Hay And Feed
RideAllWays replied to taweavmo3's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hay is just grass, alfalfa or timmothy or whatever shouldn't bother her; oat barley and wheat hay is usually made into straw, which is rarely used as bedding these days, but grain is a different story, if they are on grain at all. I assume school horses would be on grain as they are used a lot usually for lessons and need the energy. They might be on alfalfa... -

ARCHIVED So I Am Quite Proud Of Myself...
RideAllWays replied to Rowena's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Congrats! It's a good feeling fussing over somebody you care about, and having the energy is awesome. -
I can relate exactly. Took a bit of a break, barely any riding except for trails and after a few months started to feel better. It was mostly the fatigue for me, I had to stop training because I couldn't think fast enough to be effective. If you feel up to it, go to the barn and groom or just sit in the paddocks/stalls/fields or whatever..the smell will...

ARCHIVED Just Lost My Udi's Virginity!
RideAllWays posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I heard rumours that Udis' was coming to Canada, but I didn't think it would make it past the lower mainland (I'm in BC) to us country folk..well I went in to Save-on today (and I rarely ever shop there) and saw it!! They have the bread, bagels and muffins. I had extreme expectations and it met them. So stoked, it made my day! Egg salad sandwich... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free In Ukraine And General Travel Advice!
RideAllWays replied to lvpriest's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
You might have to just stick to fruits, veggies, and plain meat, rice, etc. Bring lots of Lara Bars or whatever kind you like. I think you'll be fine, take one of those gluten-free dining cards that you can print off in different languages and make sure that wherever you are staying has a kitchen. Also, please let me know how it goes, I was denied... -
