  1. well, I've only been at this for 3 yrs and I haven't put back stuff with "natural ingredients". But if anything says, "manufactured in a facility that also processes (or handles) ........" then I do, because those inevitably bother me! I think we all have to use our own "radar" and comfort level with stuff like this. You could always try one and see what...
  2. I haven't heard of the 24-hr yogurt as pp mentioned before. I had to pretty much self-diagnose myself as doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong with me at all. I did alot of research online and I think I had the leaky gut along with becoming gluten-intolerant.......along with many other food groups. But the leaky gut was the first thing I had to tackle...
  3. There are some wonderful gluten-free pastas on the market. Go to Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Better Health stores and look. Many are rice flour based and some are corn or quinoa based. I have several other trigger foods like beans, rice and eggs that make alot of vegetarian options that are available not possible choices for me. I think most of us go thru...
  4. I read something not too long ago that possibly linked shingles with at Celiacs...or at least gluten-intolerance. I can't recall now for the life of me where I saw it or what exactly it said, I just remember thinking about my brother-in-law that had a horrible bout of shingles when he was younger. It IS related to chicken-pox and I don't know how they would...
  5. I sure wish I had a great idea for us, but I don't. If we could unite, there's alot of us. But, unfortunately, the statistics say that 90% of the probable Celiacs haven't been diagnosed or even realize that's their problem. I, myself, am not a diagnosed Celiac but I believe "only" gluten-intolerant. And what adds to my concern is that a majority of us...
  6. I have not gotten an official diangosis either. Mine was more rashes that itched like crazy and sometimes it would burst into sores. And always in a very private spot. My doctor was completely sure I had a delayed onset of an STD!!! I've been married 22 yrs and have only had my husband but she was convinced it would show up as such. Imagine her surprise...
  7. My sister-in-law just lost her teaching job (private school) due to being sick so much so far this year. She's always been one to get sick and stay sick easily. But this time I'm wondering if she's not a Celiac. She says she and her doctor talked about it but she's vomiting. She's lost 15-20 lbs (she cannot afford to lose) because of vomiting and diarrhea...
  8. I have nothing to add except that I'm so sorry for all you and your hubby are going thru! I'll keep you in my prayers! Oh....ginger is good for tummy also, if you can tolerate it.
  9. I am not a diagnosed Celiac but I've read these boards for awhile now. I know the recuperation time is different for everyone. I've read that symptoms can show up as far as 15 days from the time an individual is "glutened". I have also read it can take weeks for some people to start feeling the differences in a gluten-free diet. Some are just a couple...
  10. awww, I'm so sorry! Things like that always make me feel like a total boob. Hoping for the best for you! BTW---HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
  11. I'm assuming your DF means dairy-free? I'm drawing a blank otherwise. You might try Kirkman Labs vitamins and supplements. They have a very large variety of things that are allergen-free of many, many common allergens. Their website is www.kirkmanlabs.com. They are wonderful to work with. (they REALLY should pay me for as much as I plug them here, lol...
  12. I, seemingly, am not a diagnosed Celiac but very intolerant. Along with many other foods. Not even "official" allergies, if you believe allergy tests, lol. But I cannot seem to get away with eating ANYTHING that is marked "made in same facilities as........." They get me everytime.
  13. I think a pretty safe way around the oatmeal dilemma is to get true, Irish oats. I think the issue of cc is pretty nill to none with them.
  14. thank you all so much. I miss my eggs, lol.
  15. thank you, I appreciate it! I'm sure it must be the eggs because I forgot to mention that it has never "risen". It remains flat....or however I shape it when I put it in the oven. I think the eggs are involved in that rising action.
  16. I have just finished trying to make the Chebe Foccacia Bread for about the 6th time. It has yet to turn out. I USED to be a good cook! I cannot get the hang of baking and going to hurt someone if I can't start to get some sort of bread!! My problem is that I am not only gluten-intolerant, but also rice, egg, dairy, bean......and many other things. So...
  17. you just do the best you can with friends. I try to be as non-assuming as I can be when invited over to others' house. If I can, I take something to add to the occasion...always something I can have myself. I also eat before going so I'm not starving all evening. If you go out.....you just learn how to order. I had to spend several weeks at my...
  18. I'm sorry if I repeat something someone else said....I didn't take the time to read all the replies you've gotten so far. Sugar feeds infection. Period. Starch, as in potato, becomes sugar in the system. Corn has natural sugars. Alot of foods are high in sugar or turn to sugar as digesting. I would cut those type of foods out and make sure you get your...
  19. never heard of anyone being intolerant of sugar, but I suppose you could be. My first thought as I was reading was citric acid. I know several people that cannot have that and its in SO many things. I do know that sugar feeds things like yeast infections, etc. Could you have a low level infection you don't know about? Just a thought. I would say if you...
  20. BLESS YOUR HEART!!!! I cannot imagine the trials you must be facing in this situation! I suppose if it were me, I'd live on the salad. I would also do my research about the number of Celiacs (and many, many more simply gluten-intolerant) are in this world these days. Spell out what you need for them to do to accomadate you. If they cannot do that, then...
  21. speaking of myself as a child....I was very intolerant of dairy and other things for several years (2-3) and then seemingly outgrew it. I did fine with dairy till I was about 35...then it started bothering me alot. It was another 15 yrs and alot of the other intolerances that I had when I was young kicked in again. I am gluten-free, dairy-free...along...
  22. I am not a diagnosed Celiac, but am very gluten-intolerant. About the same time this happened, alot of other food groups became "intolerant" for me also. It CAN be exhausting. I believe I had the "leaky gut" to begin with and with time and acidophilus supplements, I felt like I had my gut healed. But that certainly didn't take away my other intolerances...
  23. I understand completely! There are lots of good gluten-free pasta choices. I used DeBoles corn/quinoa pasta. Then there's Quinoa. It's a grain that's OK for us and is substituted often for barleys or couscous. If you both do fish, then experiment and get acquainted with all the different kinds! I tried my very first blue marlin yesterday and it was...
  24. My husband said, "Quit drinking that soda...that stuff will KILL ya!" lol!
  25. eggs have become a big no-no for me also. I MISS BREAKFAST FOODS!!!!! I have simply learned to eat non-breakfast type foods. Really, the goal is to put nutrition and food into my stomach and make it till lunch. I usually eat leftover whatever was for supper the past night or two. There are some great egg replacers for baked good....ENER-G powdered Egg...
