  1. OMG. You poor girl. Your MIL is an idiot. I truly hope that your husband will stand up to her and let her know that if she wants to have a relationship with him, then she'd better get her sh*t together and start acting like a caring compassionate person. That is the most disgusting thing I have heard in a very long time. She's obviously a very angry person...
  2. I would add that nightshades are problems for many here, so be wary when eating them,
  3. Simple foods, lots of water, no dairy and probiotics. There is anecdotal evidence that LGlutamine helps, but I have not tried it yet.
  4. "flour" tortillas- French Meadow bakery. Most Whole Foods and Mothers Markets have them. They're white and yummy. No luck yet on the hot dog buns. Kinnickinnick makes great hamburger buns. maybe they make hot dog buns, too/
  5. This is actually the first I have heard of this test. After reading this study: Open Original Shared Link I think that a biopsy is wise. It appears to be a very reliable indicator. Good luck!
  6. Hmm, not knowing her dietary restrictions other than gluten, I will give it a shot. I have a picky 9 yr old Celiac. Here are some of the things he likes: Udi's bread with peanut butter and banana strawberry yogurt (we freeze GOGURT so it's like ice cream) rice cakes with peanut butter or jelly sliced bananas and berries quesadillas made with corn...
  7. I've found from lots of label reading that most are safe. Boars Head is good and gluten free. Just be careful of cc from the slicer. If you bat your eyelashes, they will clean it for you, or just go first thing in the am when they're clean.
  8. Ya know, there is a country and western song about that You can't beat em up cuz they're bigger than you, you can't live with em and you just can't shoot em, men! Talking bout men! Seriously, what is the deal with men and doctors? My boyfriend of 6 years is a fitness nut. 6 pack abs at 55 years old, exercise fiend and healthy eater. But he won...
  9. I had a couple of them last week, with no issues. Food starch, if made from wheat, must be indicated on the label.
  10. Roda Are you careful about kissing him after he has one of his gluten fests?
  11. sounds like it could be..... Did you symptoms crop up after mono? The reason I ask is that there are a lot of people here who developed Celiac symptoms after a major illness, like mono.
  12. Well, you have a few options. First of all, the xrays will not show Celiac. If you are still on a full gluten diet, you can ask your doctor to run the full celiac panel. Keep in mind though that tests can be false negative. Another possibility is you may have gluten intolerance. It has the same symptoms of Celiac, but will never show up in a blood test...
  13. I did not personally experience this, but I have heard others say that because the body is so malnourished, you can definitely experience this, as the body's way of trying to nourish itself. After going gluten free, my son and I both experienced non stop hunger, that started immediatley after consuming a decent sized meal For me, it resolved itself within...
  14. Roda Glad you got that over with! I think pursuing the gluten free household is worthwhile. Maybe try it like this with hubby: If I were allergic to peanuts, would you all be slurping down peanut butter? I don't think they are taking wheat intolerance as seriously as "allergies" would be taken. It could possibly be cc that is causing your inflammation...
  15. I am with you, but I don't know the answer. I was seriously emaciated before going gluten free last summer, and now I am plump. This is while working out like a dog and watching every bite, never consuming more than 1500 calories a day. I just don't get it. I don't eat any processed food, rarely grains. Lots of lettuce I ate and ate and ate before...
  16. Yeah, my D was low a while back. Just had it checked and it is mid range, as is my sons. Hmmm. any other ideas?
  17. yes, I think it is related. Mine started after going gluten free, and lasted for about 6 months. I would get sharp shooting pains across my shins, and had tingling in my feet and ankles. Thank goodness, it stopped for me.
  18. On the front page of this site, there is a safe foods list. Because you are in the military, you need to make friends with the chefs. Most veggies are ok, but the seasonings sometimes have gluten. Like soy sauce and teriyaki. Most rices are fine, but if they are cooked in chicken broth, you could have a problem because many brands of chicken broth, especially...
  19. It certainly sounds like you could be Celiac, or at least gluten intolerant. Sometimes even with Celiac the blood tests are negative. With gluten intolerance, the tests will always be negative. The true test, IMHO is positive dietary response. So, even if your tests are negative, I would recommend sticking with the diet, since you feel better on it....
  20. I think one of the biggest issues is condiments and things in jars- if a gluteny knife has ever entered your PB jar, mark it contaminated and get your own that no one else will use. Same with butter, jelly, etc. How about your toaster? Microwave? The toaster probably has to be replaced. Anything with a hard surface should be fine with a really good scrubbing...
  21. So I've been getting cramps in my feet. In my toes when exercising and the muscle under the ball of my foot whenever it feels like it The weird thing is, both my sons are getting them, too. Any suggestions? I don't think it is a potassium problem, as I just had my levels checked. Foot cramps suck.
  22. leafy greans, mostly. Beans and flax are good too.
  23. wow! I think my faith in humanity has been restored
  24. I get stomach issues, too. They are tasty, just not worth it:( Have you tried just steaming some sugar snap peas? I like those!
  25. Hi Dawn It is really going to be up to you. Blood tests can be false negative. Or, you could be gluten intolerant and not celiac. That will never show up in a blood test. The insurance issue might be your reason to not pursue further testing. My thought is, if your blood tests are negative, will you still go gluten free? If your answer is yes, then...
