For some, definitely. Some need to peel it as well, and some wash it again after peeling, if that didn't do the trick. And goodness...I had a lovely, long post for this before, and forgot that I'd never finished it when my computer crashed last night! >_< So sorry! That's one I have not been able to figure out yet. Just so small...

Interesting facts about lyme disease - so many similarities! The one thing I'd be curious to know is if an elimination of symptoms can be brought about in Lyme disease by diet change alone? If so, then I would definitely think it's worth testing for in everyone. But if the symptoms will not completely resolve with only the diet change, then it seems more...

Oh goodness. I guess I'll just say that I'm glad some of what I've had to say has been able to help some people. It is something we looked at, but doesn't seem to be the case. Organic produce, with less chemicals, actually tends to cause more gluten issues than conventional produce, at least with the bigger farms. Lots of organic farms seem...

um, actually, *cough*...I do ask questions like that, too. The questions I listed above are actually on my basic list. I have more questions after that, depending on the answers I get. For example, any produce that has to be picked within a matter of days, on larger farms, is likely to have the pickers need to eat their food out in the fields while picking...

ARCHIVED Wendy's Canada Food Allergy Poster
T.H. replied to sleepingbeauty's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
If an oil is unrefined or cold-pressed, there is more of a likelihood of proteins having survived the process to remain in the final oil. With refined oils, however, the processing is supposed to eliminate enough of the protein to not be a problem. There's been more research done on this with peanut oil, but the results were pretty promising that refined... -
ARCHIVED Red Wine Made Me Sick And I Dont Know Why
T.H. replied to rutland's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Just wanted to respond to one last thing, really quick, actually. Just wanted to say that I can understand your point of view, honestly. I figure that starting this diet, I reacted like a lot of us do. I was shocked at how much gluten there is everywhere, in so many products. It felt like I'd never figure it out. And then I got used to reading labels... -
I've always read that wood is porous to gluten (plastic, too), so it can be released back into food that comes into contact with cc'd wood. I realized recently, however, that I've never really investigated this before, so I'm hoping someone here has. Anyone know exactly how this whole wood-is-porous thing works? Like, scientifically? I know the concept...

ARCHIVED Red Wine Made Me Sick And I Dont Know Why
T.H. replied to rutland's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wasn't trying to make it a point of contention. I haven't argued that wine isn't safe in this entire discussion, at least I don't believe I did. That's the reason I tried to say, in both my posts, that this was not my purpose. And that's also why I made sure to say that I wasn't trying to imply that any wine contained over 20 ppm. I tried to go out of my... -

Oh so glad to hear you caught it early. Kick that cancer's butt, hon. Stomp it flat. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Traveling On Royal Caribbean ? Help!
T.H. replied to Marley25's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I haven't gone on any of these cruises myself, however, from what people have talked about on this forum specifically, the experience seems to vary greatly depending on the ship you are going on. Seriously, I would see if you can talk to anyone involving your food ahead of time, to discuss what your needs actually are and make sure they know what to do for... -
The fatigue, coupled with the fact that the dizziness hit not during ballet class, but after, would seem to indicate that it's probably not a balance or inner ear issue, so at least that's likely not a problem there. I'd agree with heading to the doc. As well as electrolytes, it could very easily be vitamin deficiencies or other issues of that sort. Iron...

At this point, the main way I deal with this is to find the cleanest produce I can. I almost never buy anything from a source that I haven't interviewed before hand, so I'm pretty much buying foods at farmer's markets only, plus a couple mail-ordered items. Every once in a while I'll take a chance, but 3 out of 4 times that ends up with me sick, so I do it...

ARCHIVED "testing" For Super-Sensitivity
T.H. replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Super Sensitive People
You know, I never thought I'd be grateful to gluten ataxia for anything, but as it's become more severe, man oh man has it helped me know when gluten got me! I've got mere minutes before I know. When we thought it was an allergy, the doctors had me setting a timer so I could watch at 1 min, 5 min, 15 min after eating, and so on, to make sure I wasn... -
ARCHIVED So Delicious And Purely Decadent Products
T.H. replied to Joe0123's topic in Super Sensitive People
I reacted to every flavor of So Delicious that our store carried - mint, chocolate, vanilla, coconut...don't think they carried any others, locally. I was so stoked to try them out because it was an ice cream without sugarcane, for once! My daughter and son have reacted to many flavors of the Purely Decadent stuff and a few times to So Delicious. They... -
ARCHIVED Red Wine Made Me Sick And I Dont Know Why
T.H. replied to rutland's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know there aren't, that's why I was simply asking specific questions re: wine making practices and the issue of what is possible in terms of gluten cc, even low level. I made sure to say that I wasn't trying to imply that this could result in over 20 ppm of gluten. I'm not trying to argue that. Not trying to imply that, say, wheat paste sealing a wine... -
ARCHIVED Red Wine Made Me Sick And I Dont Know Why
T.H. replied to rutland's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Would that actually have the right effect on gluten, though? Everything I hear is that wood is porous to gluten; it's the reason I got rid of my cutting boards. I understand the high-pressure would do a good job of getting into all the cracks and crevices, but that wouldn't address the porous aspect of things, would it? And the steam/sterilization part of... -
ARCHIVED Tinnitus And Balance Problems/mild Vertigo
T.H. replied to Pegleg84's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Well darn it - so frustrating that they are not finding it yet! Hopefully it is something with an easy fix, like the visual problem. Although curious about the salt aspect of things - is there any way to get a false negative on the tests for Meniere's, by any chance? I know that's affected by salt, but that's as far as my knowledge goes in that arena... -
ARCHIVED "drunk" After Eating Other Foods Like Broccoli, Rutabega, Avocado, Banana?
T.H. replied to PeachBlossoms's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I was just thinking that, although the broccoli part wouldn't fit with that, I don't think. Not that there couldn't be multiple issues involved - argh, why are bodies so annoylingly complicated sometimes?! Food allergy is also possible. Some allergic reactions are delayed by 24-48 hours, even. For one of my food allergies, feeling completely exhausted... -
ARCHIVED Grains, Legumes, Nuts, And Seeds
T.H. replied to RiceGuy's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I test positive on allergy tests to navy/white beans and soy, and have reacted with a mild allergic reaction to carob beans, guar gum, green peas, and green beans, yes. Soybean oil has been a problem, although the reaction was very mild. I don't react to mesquite beans (and a couple other regular legumes), but do react to another legume often found in the... -
ARCHIVED And Another Diagnosis...
T.H. replied to glutenfreemamax2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had ADHD-like symptoms (never went to get diagnosed for it). When I eliminated my food allergies (which I never knew I had, as i don't get hives) and went to a whole foods diet with little to no gluten-free processed foods, the symptoms went away. They come back when I screw up the diet. I know that's not the answer for everyone, but keeping a food... -
ARCHIVED Trying To Determine How "sensitive" I Am
T.H. replied to BeFree's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'd say you sound like you're about in the middle, sensitivity-wise. At least, that's what it seems to me. :-) And comparisons, huh? Okay, I'm gonna do 4 experiences at once - there's a lot of us in my family! :-D My father: developed an ulcer and that's how he got diagnosed, but never had gut pain that he associated with a food, you know? After a... -
ARCHIVED Strategies For Daily Life When You're Feeling Lousy
T.H. replied to jumpingjuniper's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That is such a good idea. I don't know why I don't think of doing that, but I really usually don't. That really jives with the 'spoon theory' I read once. Just looked it up, for anyone interested who hasn't yet seen it: Open Original Shared Link It's just the way this gal thought of to describe what it's like to live day to day with lupus, but I remember... -
ARCHIVED Other Food Issues Menu Suggestions
T.H. replied to Nor-TX's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Totally different meaning than I intended for sweetener, LOL. I was just thinking of foods that make things sweeter, so honey and sugar totally work. :-) But since you can have honey or sugar, honey glazed fish might be good, yeah? Do you use brown sugar? That's worked well for us to make a teriyaki sauce, with just a little gluten-free soy sauce and... -
ARCHIVED Strategies For Daily Life When You're Feeling Lousy
T.H. replied to jumpingjuniper's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The short increments of time to be 'active' is something I do, too. For a while, I made a list of chores, sorted by 'quick, medium, and long,' in terms of how much time it would take to do them. When i'm feeling awful, I would just take care of the chores in the 'short' category, and leave the long ones for later, or just do them a teeny bit at a time. It... -

Phew, wow, that's a tricky diet to keep to! Will they be operating on your hiatal hernia at all soon? A friend of mine has that, but his is milder, and he couldn't afford the surgery so he's getting buy on medication they gave him. :-( Can you have any seasonings, spices, herbs? Okay, foods that I eat that might at least be adaptable to something...
