  1. This one seems to be recommended often. Open Original Shared Link It tests down to 10 ppm, but there are some restrictions. For example, it's done using a liquid that has to wick up the test strip, so some things like a powder/flour may make the liquid to thick for the test to work properly. The tests have instructions and discusses what you need...
  2. SO hard to figure out this stuff sometimes, isn't it? I swear, it would be so much easier if we had, say, little Star Trek medical scanners we could use whenever we have some kind of reaction so we could know what was actually going on. I thought for the longest time that my gluten reaction was an allergy of some kind and my allergies were my gluten reaction...
  3. Wow...just pass out the antibiotics without even testing? Goodness! You can ask to be tested for SIBO, if you would like to be certain of the diagnosis. There's a breath test that you can do to test whether or not you have this. We just had it done for my daughter. Just a few hours of fasting, drinking a solution, and breathing into a tube periodically...

    ARCHIVED Rotation Diet

A lot of us go through a grieving process (or 'rage' process, heh), especially when we start losing a lot more foods than just gluten. People who don't have to do that frequently don't 'get' it. It's hard. It's something we will have to confront many times a day, on a daily basis, for as long as this lasts (some of it forever). And it affects social situations...
  5. It often is, that I've seen. Unfortunately, for vitamins that are free of a lot of allergens (especially corn), many seem to leave out certain nutrients. I'm not sure why. Wonder if perhaps the usual carriers or sources for these are typically from the allergens trying to be avoided, so it's easier/cheaper to just leave them out. Sometimes a company will...
  6. Thankfully, I don't have to worry about the genetic disorder. That disorder (It's called molybdenum cofactor deficiency) actually results in a pretty awful death a few months after birth. The sulfite levels build up and literally dissolve the brain. It's simply awful and so, so sad. In 2009, though, an Autralian and a set of parents pushed to use an experimental...
  7. From what I understand, part of the issue can be that, because Molybdenum is a mineral, it has to be absorbed from the soil. So if the soil is in an area that has had a lot of farming and this particular mineral has been depleted, or if the soil is naturally low in this mineral, the veggies may not have lower amounts of it. :-( I've heard that this can be...
  8. Heh...this falls in the same category as my celiac disease: patient diagnosed, doctor confirmed. ;-) I happened to come across a site mentioning headaches and bottled water, due to sulfite content. And the only bottled water that had low sulfites coincided with the only bottled water that I could tolerate. So started looking, found that many people...
  9. Am I misreading or are you mocking the fact that someone even asked this type of question? That's how it's coming across to me, honestly. If you don't agree with the answers, or even with the idea that someone might have problems with a product, that's your prerogative, of course. But a response that mocks the person asking the question, or others who...
  10. I know a number of super-sensitives who do well with Tropical Traditions coconut products, too (re: the flour question). I think it's not always so useful for someone coming in cold, very true. Even less useful for someone who doesn't usually ask questions in the super-sensitive section, so they have no real way of gauging whose sensitivity...
  11. So, for a little while now, I've been getting headaches with certain foods. Not gluten related, just crummy. These have been getting worse, to the point that freaking WATER was giving me headaches. I've figured out what has been causing the headaches, it's been tested and confirmed by the doc, and it may be of some relevance for super-sensitives, so...
  12. If you've already gone through one round of SIBO, I'd go get that checked first, honestly. A 2008 study on SIBO recurrence after antibiotic treatment found that by 3 months post-treatment, around 12% of patients tested positive for SIBO again. By 9 months post-treatment, it was over 40% of patients. ( Open Original Shared Link ) Odds that it's come...
  13. Okay, so let's see if I understand this right. Foods that work for you: udi's pizza crust quinoa pasta starkist tuna Enjoy life products fruity pebbles schar products some glutino products white rice (except this last time) vegetables Foods that don't work: brown rice pasta an olive oil Amy's products Food for life products Bob's...
  14. I know I've seen a few folks on the forum mention what they considered a confusing reaction: having more problems with highly processed corn, like cornstarch, than with corn itself, even if you ate more of the corn itself. If that is an issue for you, you might want to go check out sulfite sensitivities/allergy. Many processed corn derivatives contain...
  15. I think you could grow beans via a container garden, yeah, but I don't know about the yield. We used a native bean and it had a small yield per plant, but the variation of yield for different varieties might be a lot. They're pretty easy to grow, though, they just need a lot of nutrients in the soil, is all. We've been growing them here in the desert...
  16. An intolerance to eggs won't show up on allergy tests, no, but an allergy can still cause stomach problems, too, so it's definitely worth seeing an allergist. If you can, find one who is willing to do more than a prick tests to detect allergies. I'm allergic to eggs as well and stomach pain is one of my symptoms, definitely. I don't get hives or itching...
  17. The only one's I tried were the R. W. Garcia Company chips and those didn't sit too well with me. Other than those, I've only seen the Late July chips in my area, out of that list, but they have one of my allergens so they'd be out for me anyway. My daughter has tried the Late July chips, however, and seemed to do okay. She does okay with small amounts of...
  18. Heya! Yeah, I didn't have a food processor before all this either - got a teeny 3 cup one on sale for about $15 bucks finally, and then this year everyone chipped in and got me this super studly one that I can't wait to use! (Just got it a few days ago...sooooo shiny... ). Now if only I can become a good enough cook to make it worth the money, LOL...
  19. I used to use Rancho Gordo dried beans, ordered on-line from here: Open Original Shared Link However, my allergic reaction to just a few beans decided to branch out to all of 'em, so I haven't tried these in a few months, now. :-( On the bean dish front, avoiding those allergens, that I might be able to add at least a couple ideas to the pot...
  20. I know there are some GFCO certified corn chips that should test below 10 ppm, although I haven't tried many of them. Anita's Mexican Foods, Food Should Taste Good, Late July, Live Better Brand, Prime Choice Foods, and R. W. Garcia Company are all companies that make corn chips and are GFCO certified. How soon do you need to know re: the corn? If...
  21. Well crud, I totally missed this part! No idea how I did that. Sorry! This is something I've experienced, too, actually. Before my celiac diagnosis, during the night my hands would fall asleep to the point that they were tingling and almost numb and difficult to move. If I slept heavily, by the morning, they would be numb, slightly swollen, and difficult...
  22. With a reaction like that, I think I would look to reactions to chemicals and/or substances that might be in the wall paper, the old paint on the wall, the wall paper paste, first. In my completely layman-based opinion, it seems like it might be a potential allergic reaction, based on your description. Some of us who go gluten free have 'picked up' a few...

    ARCHIVED Pet Food

We put our cats on a gluten-free diet, too, but I've been using this local-made pet food that's supposed to be gluten-free. Cats hate it. I'm thinking I'll check out Merrick. I don't know that it was a huge issue for us, but eliminating it seems to have made a difference for the little 2 year old celiac who visits us. He would always let the cats lick...
  24. Okay, a few junk foods, heh. My daughter seems to be able to tolerate Kettle brand salt and vinegar potato chips. That flavor does have citric acid (which can be a corn cc issue if you are really, really sensitive), but if you can tolerate citric acid, it's pretty good. It's one of the only flavors that doesn't have sugar cane or sweeteners added or dairy...

    ARCHIVED Muti Vitamins

Country Life, LLC is one of the few companies that makes vitamin supplements and is certified by the GFCO. Their products have to meet a <10 ppm standard to be certified. They do make a multi-vitamin: Open Original Shared Link If you go to the GFCO's certification website, you can look up all the companies that are certified by them, by category. There...
