  1. Okay, thoughts... 1. Gluten free products are not actually free from gluten. They are allowed to have up to 20 ppm concentration of gluten and if you are in the USA, gluten-free food is not currently regulated. So a company that tests its food for gluten before selling it can say it has gluten-free food. A company that just doesn't add gluten 'on purpose...
  2. So sorry! *virtual hug* We've all been there - well, not exactly there, but our version of it. That point where all the hard work on the diet seems like it's blowing up on you and everything is going back to 'awful' and you just wanna give up and have a good, gut wrenching cry. Or at least I can speak for myself and say that I've been there. So sorry...
  3. For whole foods that you are making yourself: have you gone whole hog on eliminating gluten cc? Sanded down or bought new wooden utensils and cutting boards? Scoured out any stainless steel pots and pans? Avoided any non-stick pans with scratches from before? Got new spices to make sure the old ones are contaminated on the pouring/shaker spout? For...
  4. I'm in my thirties as well, have had this undiagnosed for over 20 years, and my symptoms are the aches and pains and neurological crap. Healing for some of this definitely comes slowly - the nerves just don't heal all that fast. The aches and pains and some of it, though, turned out to have a revolutionary new treatment, of a sorts, at least for me: I have...
  5. You may want to call them up to double check on potential gluten cc, especially if they are as small company. Large companies tend to have more rigorous cleaning protocols in place. I'd see if they make any sauces with sausage in them that might contain gluten, or if they also make/process pasta in the same facility as they process the sauce. Or other...
  6. While some people are healed by 1 year, some can take longer. I took about 2 years to fully heal. If your numbers are still going down, that's a good sign. If they flatten out, but are still high, then you may need to start hunting down potential gluten cc. But for now, seems like it's going the right way. :-)
  7. If you're looking for something fun to start with, just to boost your spirits? There are a few versions of gluten-free girl scouts-esque cookie recipes on line that you can google. :-) Some of them looked pretty good! Gluten free thin mints, gluten free samoas, etc...
  8. I've really looked, but I've never found any research that seems to be able to figure out why. Hoping that someone else has! The theory I heard that made sense to me was the immune system rallying one, as well. Although I have also heard the idea that if we're nutrient deficient, our immune system is not only 'occupied' attacking us, it is also steadily...
  9. First 2 weeks were really bad, actually. On day two, I started having nausea, headaches, and dizziness all the time. Could barely think, sick all the time, and it just kept getting worse. Turns out that I have allergies to potatoes, sugarcane, dairy, and eggs - all of which I don't eat much of normally, and all of which I was eating a lot more of in my...
  10. So sorry it's been an issue! What you're describing does sound like it could be a problem, for a sensitive celiac or even one not so much. If it's only an issue when you are near them, though, that hopefully means that it can be avoided if you can be out of the area. Just something simple to the manager, like inhaling that level of flour is affecting...
  11. Considering that you already know there is a problem with this issue in the family, it seems logical to look to that problem first when there seems to be a lingering health issue involving the gut. My friend ended up doing the same thing, with bathroom issues as the problem, and it took care of the issue. It's been hard, I'll be honest. Trying to make...
  12. That was like reading something I might have written, yikes! I still remember when the idea of tasting sugar was, as you said, literally on the brain at least a couple times a minute. Thought of it, wanted the taste in my mouth even if I was nauseous. I remember dreaming about it for days and days. And I'm so glad you mentioned the fruit - I couldn't...
  13. Makes me glad I put it up. I've been calling the few products my children can have, lately. In the last few weeks, two products that were previously safe made my daughter sick (more than once, because we didn't figure it out at first). I always read the labels and no ingredients had changed, but I found out that both companies had changes that affected...
  14. I would recommend going to the website Open Original Shared Link . they have a yearly updated grocery store shopping guide that will list brands that are gluten free, and they also have a gluten free/casein free guide, although I don't know that this will be enough for dairy free. First thing you should know: finding fully dairy free and gluten free foods...
  15. One of the big questions would be: do they test for gluten? And if they do, do they test every batch? If they test every batch, then they may have good enough cleaning protocols in place that they generally have a fairly safe product, and the testing would ensure that a contaminated batch doesn't slip through. If they don't test every batch, a contaminated...
  16. Sometimes a bar tender will touch the end of the dispenser into the drink he's dispensing it into, and that can gluten the end of it, depending what's in the drink. One I've seen more commonly is the bartender moving a bowl of pretzels out of the way, serving someone a drink, and then touching the rim/inside of a clean glass as he grabs it for the next...
  17. Thanks to GFreeMO for mentioning the Mission FAQ. I wouldn't have gone back to reread them otherwise, and this post never would have happened. I know a lot of us who end up in this forum are already past reading labels and have moved on to checking out company FAQ's, calling, and emailing company reps for information (or avoiding companies entirely...
  18. Oh, I did miss those! You know, I'm on a research kick anyway. I'll go call 'em up and see what's going on. I think you're right on the money, though, that some companies are anticipating the gluten free law finally going into effect. I was noticing in one of the gluten free grocery guides that a number of companies stopped calling a number of their 'naturally...
  19. With the discussion on chips, I got curious enough to do some checking on the various companies everyone was recommending (I might have missed a few, though!) Figured I'd share what I found, to help those here figure out what they can have, based on their level of sensitivity. Anyone else have some to add, please do! Please note, the following only applies...
  20. I would show your family this: Open Original Shared Link and this: Open Original Shared Link The first is an interview with Dr. Fasano, the man who got the medical community to accept the biopsy as the gold standard. In it, he mentions the fact that he's trying to change that, because research is showing it to be out of date and flat out wrong. The...

    ARCHIVED Mcflurries?

I'll be honest, I haven't yet read anything that makes me feel that the matter has been adequately studied. The study from Finland that is often sited as evidence of the safety of wheat starch hydrolysates has some unfortunate flaws. So do other studies I've seen on safe gluten levels, and they all have potentially skewed the numbers to a higher gluten threshold...
  22. Let me double check something: You had a positive blood test, yes? Then tested negative on the genetic tests. Is that right? If that's true, but only if, from everything I've read, you actually are probably a celiac. The one study I read on gluten intolerance showed that those with gluten intolerance don't get the same antibody respone as celiacs do...
  23. I can say what was happening to me, and what worked. Might have some relevance. Hope it's positive in the manner you're hoping for. :-) After I went gluten free, I was losing weight like mad - especially muscle. My hair was coming out. I was bloated and nauseous. I looked exhausted all the time. My vitamin levels kept dropping. At that time, I was eating...
  24. I always miss this, and always mean to come and check out all the food people are having! Bfast - leftovers from the night before: beef and tomato stew with onions, bell pepper, and tomatoes snack - bell peppers and roasted acorn squash seeds Lunch - skipped it snack - popped sorghum with olive oil and salt Dinner - beef and tomato stew again...
  25. I've heard of this one: Open Original Shared Link There's one down in Tucson, too: Open Original Shared Link Have you checked out the gluten free bakery up there, or Picazzo's? Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link If you need someone to chat with, send me a private message. I'm down just past Tucson, but we head up to Phoenix every...
