I wonder if chilling up the dough (once cut into gingerbread men) before baking would help with the spreading? I read this on a cookie direction. Gingerbread men sound yummy. I'll have to try them. Maybe after Christmas or next year. I'm getting over some kind of nasty bug so keeping it simple until Christmas to heal up. Oh, I have Namaste mix but don...

How wonderful, great news! Isn't it amazing how quickly results come in? My two boys are gluten-free, one for 2 months, one for one month. And I just can't believe the changes I've seen. Both have gone through a mini growth spurt just recently, one is eating more again and looking leaner, no more diarrhea in one, no more constipation in the other, attitudes...

ARCHIVED Diagnosis Without Biopsy?
nmlove replied to ejb3939's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't have experience with this but maybe a possibility. If not celiac diagnosis, it's at least a gluten-intolerance issue. That, combined with doctor's backing, may be enough for school changes? -
ARCHIVED Tis The Season To Be Thankful!
nmlove replied to amybeth's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I am thankful for my three beautiful children who are growing so fast! For the chance to be able to see them grow day to day and to feel like a kid again when I let loose with them. I am thankful for my husband. For providing for our family, for being supportive, for loving me no matter what. I am thankful for my wonderful friends, who have been so... -
ARCHIVED My 10 Year Olds Endoscopy Was Today!
nmlove replied to zack's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
After my son's endoscopy, his GI told us that he saw damage and to go ahead and cut out the obvious gluten sources. Then of course a week later the biopsy results were positive. But as posted, the damage may or may not be visible - reading the biopsies is key. I will say this. Once 100% gluten free I could tell a difference in my son by week's end. -
ARCHIVED Is A Blood Test Enough?
nmlove replied to melissanicole's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The choice is yours. We opted for the endo on our first son (4 years). He had positive bloodwork but since we had no history of celiac in either family and a small chance it could not be celiac disease, we went with it. If he had been negative, he still would have to do a gluten-free trial at some point. But if it was positive there was no wishy-washiness... -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Daycare
nmlove replied to MichelleW's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm assuming he goes all day? If it were me, I'd provide all his food. If the cost of sitting includes food, ask if his could be reduced. As far as other kids and cross contamination, after talking with the sitter explaining the situation, why not make it so that food is only eaten at the table (that's washed first) and all the kids wash their hands well... -
For a bit now I've been craving some good old lasagna. And while confident a veggie lasagna without the cheese would probably be ok, I just really craved a good cheesy/meaty lasagna. I ran across a brand name recipe in a magazine and thought it worth a try. It turned out great. Even my husband liked it and he's not a lasagna guy. I served it with a warm mushroom...

ARCHIVED Celiac Mom With Baby - When To Introduce Gluten
nmlove replied to mamonaco30's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The AAP finally is in line with the WHO about waiting to introduce ANY solids until 6 months of age. I really don't think they have any idea about gluten at present because the thought I keep reading is the 4-7 month window (which is now being questioned). But I have two boys (4 and 2), both with celiac and both introduced to gluten 6-7 months. With our... -
If it is casein, it could take more than just a few days to go away. When I first went off it took nearly a month to start feeling the effects and even more so as I went on. Just an FYI. But I do second the doctor visit. Headaches every day are typically not normal. Unless you know your body really well (as in, what's causing them), I would opt to go....

ARCHIVED Red Rash Around Mouth/red Earslobes
nmlove replied to chiroptera's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
One of my son's gets rashes often around his mouth but it depends on what he's eating. Don't think it's gluten related. My other son gets the red ear, always has. Comes and goes. He's been gluten free and it still happens. I once read somewhere that it could be a sign of an allergy. Not sure of the validity of that though. Interesting thought. -
ARCHIVED Daughter With Possible Celiac Disease
nmlove replied to Orinda's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi there, my family was just in the same boat as you. My son had very positive blood work but the pediatric GI doc we saw wanted to do the upper endoscopy to confirm. We had no history of celiac disease and there were possibilities other than celiac - a slim chance but still possible. We decided to do it. My son did great. It was really quick (10 minutes... -
Other triggers for me are: weather fronts (these cause the worst sudden headache for me), stress, lack of sleep, dehydration, exercise (but I still do it, the headache doesn't last long), lack of sunlight (I get more daily headaches late fall into winter that start easing up toward the end of winter. And I still don't know all the triggers and sure I won...

ARCHIVED Can Any 1 Tell Me What Symptoms Cleared After Going Gluten And Or Casein Free?
nmlove replied to Internal-Disaster's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
So my boys are the gluten-free ones. My test came back negative though now that I'm mostly gluten free too (they're young and most processed gluten-containing foods that I would eat has soy or dairy in it). But I'm starting to notice reactions to the times I eat gluten. Like when we order pizza after the kids go to bed. But casein free, that I can address... -
To add my two cents, dairy really bothers me. Just recently I "challenged" it by having a pizza with light (very) cheese. It took me a week to get over it and ended with a migraine. So sometimes it's hard to notice if a food is bothering you. If I hadn't known dairy bothered me I would never have traced my migraine back from that one dairy incident. Just...

ARCHIVED New Here My 18month Old Has Celiac's
nmlove replied to jenn33's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My kids are 4, 2, and 5 months. Here's some of what we eat: Snacks - cheese stick, yogurt, cheese/lunchmeat roll-up, nuts, peanut butter on rice cake, EnviroKidz rice bars, fruit leathers or sticks, any fruit or vegetable, mini muffins on occasion Lunches - hot dog, lunchmeat/cheese roll-up, mac-n-cheese, pancakes, eggs, leftovers, corn tortilla quesadillas... -
ARCHIVED What The World Eats
nmlove replied to travelthomas's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
This is interesting. I actually saw this a few months back before my house went gluten-free and thought how awful the US diet was. Their representation wasn't even close to what I bought (and paid per week) for my family of five. And this was before gluten-free which has forced me to go even healthier! -
ARCHIVED When Should I Get My Girls Tested?
nmlove replied to L13's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
After my 4 year old's diagnosis his pediatrician suggested no on testing my 2 year old. But we decided to go ahead. Guess what? Positive! I figured it's just some blood work. Nothing traumatic. -
ARCHIVED Awaiting Diagnosis, Have A Few Questions...
nmlove replied to mhalpin12's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Could you work on no corn, see how it goes as far as the rash? No improvement, then go gluten free and see. One thing at a time so you're not questioning your results. Just a thought... -
ARCHIVED 2009 Thanksgiving Disasters
nmlove replied to Ahorsesoul's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
This was our first gluten-free Thanksgiving. Actually, our first big food event. I was a little nervous as we are at my in-laws. And once there I realized how little of what I've been telling them got through to them. This is going to be a long road. 1. Can't they (the boys) just eat the pumpkin filling out of the crust? (I'm sure this is a classic.)... -
ARCHIVED First Thanksgiving Since Diagnosis
nmlove replied to Jennifer2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That is truly awesome! I'm so happy for you. I've a great friend too who thinks of my boys (gluten-free) and me (dairy/soy free). It's so great to know I can trust her and that she's so willing to do this for us. -
Yes! I've been making a lot of diet connections lately. I'm not gluten-free (my boys are) but I've been free of other foods because my breastfed daughter. Through that, I found that dairy really bothered me and I had no idea that was causing all those problems! But the most recent discovery is eggs. I've never liked eggs much but obviously I'd eat them in...

ARCHIVED Mother Diagnosed, Wont Go On Diet
nmlove replied to ratty89's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That stinks but until she's ready to change, nothing will do it. I like the idea of providing info and seeing improvements in you and your brother. But until she's ready, that's about it. I'm sure anyone can relate, celiac or no. I can share two off the top of my head. My dad diagnosed with type 2 diabetes managed for awhile but is now probably killing himself... -
ARCHIVED My Heart Is Breaking
nmlove replied to elle's mom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My kids really like the Eating Gluten Free With Emily book (ages 2 and 4). Maybe an idea for read aloud in school? My son would never talk about it in front of a crowd. I've offered the book up to my parents just for a very simplistic explanation too. -
ARCHIVED My Heart Is Breaking
nmlove replied to elle's mom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Elle's Mom, just wanted to say I hear ya! My 4yo son doesn't have food every day like your daughter (thank goodness!) but on Monday I got a call - as we were leaving to take him to school - that one of the teachers was picking up donut holes for the kids, could Austin have one? Uh no. Well, we have pretzels, can he have those? Uh no. I ended up bringing...
