  1. Smart Balance says on their website that all of their products are gluten free.
  2. Some of the meals that we have that I think are inexpensive are baked potatoes(baked in the oven, they taste better) with bacon, cheese and sour cream or manwich or broccoli and cheese really you can top baked potatoes with almost anything. Chicken thighs and legs are usually less expensive than breasts or tenderloins. Red beans(dried beans) and rice with...
  3. My family and I went out this evening to a local restaurant that is family owned and operated called Big Shanty Smokehouse. I found them on the gluten free registry website. I called to make sure that they did have gluten free items because online it did not say. The lady I spoke with, Sissy, said that almost all of their items were gluten-free because she...
  4. Hi. Mine was 16.7 (range 32.0-100). My Dr. put me on 50,000 units once a week for two months and then I took 4,000 units a day for about three months now I am down to 1,000 units a day. At my last visit she said I was in the normal range now.
  5. I found a corn chip at Whole Foods, XOCHiL (so'cheel). It is the best store bought corn chip I have ever had. It is very thin and crispy. A little pricey but so good.
  6. Do a search 'how is soy sauce made'. I found a site wisegeek that explained it well.
  7. Soy sauce is made with wheat.
  8. I say try gluten free. My blood test was negative as was my 9 yr old. I wanted to do gluten-free with him so he wasn't going it alone and to see if I could feel better. I feel so much better. I don't sleep all day any more and was able to stop anti-depressants. I had horrible foot and joint pain that nothing would help. My Dr. told me I should see a mental...
  9. I have had good luck with Colgate Sensitive Enamel Protect.
  10. I found some today at our Whole Foods in Marietta, GA. It was the first time I have seen them there. My gluten eating husband said they were really good.
  11. I might be wrong but I would think dried beans would be ok if you rinse them really well.
  12. Sorry to hear your little one is having tummy troubles. Celiac is not an allergy so the allergy tests would not find it. If you want blood test or endoscopy keep him on gluten. I think some children that young have been positive on the blood test. If you think you have found your answer to his problems and don't need an official diagnosis then keep him gluten...
  13. The best thing to start with is single ingredient foods. Beef, chicken, pork and fish seasoned with salt and pepper and olive oil. Same with veggies. No wheat, barley, rye or oats. Read the labels. Don't go crazy on buying a lot of gluten free substitutes to start with. If you need a gluten free bread, Udi's is really good. I get it at Whole Foods. Chex cereals...
  14. I saw a new Mystery Diagnosis the other day. The episode was "The Girl With No Bowel". The second half of the show had a lady with strange bumps on her face and hands.
  15. That is quite a history. Do you plan on having an endoscopy to check for celiac or other issues? If not you could try going gluten free for a few weeks and then try a gluten challenge and see how your body responds.
  16. I'm sure you have read on here if you plan on having an endoscopy you should continue to eat gluten and then after the endoscopy go gluten free.
  17. It is possible she doesn't have enough damage in her intestines, yet. But to me it sounds like you already have an answer with her feeling better. The blood test were positive and she is responding to the gluten-free diet and gluten challange. I think the time it takes is different for everyone. I saw improvement in my son after about three weeks, his tests...
  18. If you want testing make sure you keep eating gluten foods. Quite a few people I have seen on here are not underweight. My bloodwork was negative but I feel so much better not eating gluten. I am overweight and been fighting it for years. Make sure you get your vitamin levels checked and then you can see if you are absorbing nutrients or not. I went gluten...
  19. Which multi vit. did she get? I see many different ones on their online store.
  20. My severe fatigue started going away when I finally got my vit.D where it needs to be and started taking fish oil and B-Complex and weened myself off of prozac. The dairy you are eating migh be upsetting your stomach. I know when I eat the breads it feels like a heavy brick sitting in my belly.
  21. I made biscuits last night, they were good but a little sweet for us. After I put them in the oven I saw sugar in the ingredients. I think they would make good cinnamon biscuits. Also I used unsalted butter instead of shortening.
  22. I have had KP (chicken skin) as long as I can remember (I'm 38) and I don't ever remember burning or itching.(I picked at it quite a bit) My mother says she has it also. My 9 yr old son has it and he never scratches it. Before we went gluten-free he would get these little blistery spots in random places. I also have had a few of the blistery spots and they...
  23. I don't put flour in my cornbread, never have. Cornmeal, salt, milk or sour cream or both, egg, oil. Most true southerners use buttermilk but I don,t make it enough to buy it. Try your recipe with all cornmeal and no extra flours.
  24. B-complex (gluten free of course) and fish oil has helped me the most. I forgot to take them a couple of days ago and I could tell a big difference in how I felt. I was on anti-depressants on and off for years.
  25. I was cooking different meals for a very short time now I cook one meat and three to four vegetables so there is something that everyone likes. We have pasta maybe once a week. I do buy canned and frozen vegetables and try to stock up when on sale.
